Meanwhile, Gilas suffer a loss against Senegal.

Gilas fails to sustain charge against Senegal

Quote
GILAS Pilipinas failed to sustain an early fourth quarter charge and fell against Senegal, 72-64, in the Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament in Guandong, China Friday night.

I've seen the whole game and that was very close up until the fourth quarter when the Senegalese show their height advantage. If only Kai Sotto and Jordan Clarkson were playing in that game, high chance that Gilas will won as Sotto would add ceiling to the Philippine squad while Clarkson will provide his scoring prowess that went missing for the Gilas in the final minutes of that game.

What can I say? Of course, this is a learning experience for the Gilas Pilipinas. Kai and JC, I think, will only play in the Philippines during the actual game, right? Anyway, I think the current Gilas lineup is still competitive, but we still want to see them win, as the team has been criticized a lot every time they lose.

By the way there's a good news for us.

Jimmy Alapag joins Sacramento Kings’ coaching staff in NBA

Maybe this is the answer that we are looking for. He can replace Coach Chot, as he sure can help the team improve, being part of the coaching staff of the Sacramento Kings. And who knows, maybe someday we will see two Filipino coaches in the NBA if he gets promoted again to become a Heat coach.

His explosiveness excited basketball fans but I hope that once he turned pro he would taper it down as that kind of playing style is prone to injury that could shorten his basketball career.

I doubt he would change his style; that style made him play well, so he will stick with it. He just has to be careful all the time. Maybe he will be like Abando in case he won't be playing in the PBA. We've seen how popular Abando is already because he is also a high flyer, and Poypoy has an advantage against Abando as he looks stronger, and both are high flyers.

Not sure about comparison with Abando, Poypoy is hype by social media while Abando prove things in numbers, maybe if Poypoy will make that same hype if ever he enters PBA and continue that same hype or manage to produce that same numbers, which still in question if he can fly that high when he's already playing with PBA players,.

Just an opinion Kabayan! no offense with your observation I'm just a good fan of Abando even when he's still playing with UST even there's a rumor about "hulugan" thing during the Ateneo finals up to Letran when he transfers and wins a title.. hahaha

I'm just riding the hype, hehe. No worries, maybe my expectation is too high because I'm just amazed by what he had shown in their previous games. It's too early to say, but I'm optimistic that once he gets into the PBA, he will become an all-star player, maybe an MVP candidate if he continues to play at the same level as he is showing now.

Another hype news for Poypoy Actub.

MPBL: Poypoy Actub puts on a show as Imus scores 59-point rout of Bulacan

Quote
Poypoy Actub put up a show as Imus routed Bulacan, 125-66, on Wednesday in an OKBet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) Fifth Season dunk party at the Imus Sports Complex in Cavite.

The 6-foot high-flyer from Kibawe, Bukidnon, elevated for a league-best seven rim-rattling slams that highlighted a near triple-double performance of 31 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 steals for the Imus SV Squad, which improved to 10-11 in the round-robin elimination phase of the tournament.

I believe he will become an instant superstar if he ever gets drafted in the PBA. However, for those who are following Poypoy's basketball journey, do you think he can meet the qualifications to become a PBA player?

I did a little research on this kid and found out that he was a former Baby Lancer but don't know if he has pursued his plan to join the LPU Pirates of the NCAA and if he does I think he will be qualified for the draft in the PBA once he turns 22 years old as that is the age limit to be drafted in the PBA.

Have you guys seen this Poypoy Actub play?

I don't know if he is eligible to play in the PBA but if he is then I think many teams will be interested on his service as he excites the fans in the Coliseum, he reminds me of Mr. Excitement Bong Alvarez.

Please see the link below for some of his highlights.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkbhwqcG1BQ&ab_channel=TopNotchSports

I've been seeing his highlights on TikTok recently, and this guy is a high flyer. He's not afraid to dunk on someone. In the game that I saw, he scored like an NBA player, putting up 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. It kinda reminds me of a prime Westbrook, who could easily go for a double-double.

This is what the PBA needs if they want to make the league more exciting to watch. Currently, the MPBL is already catching up.

He is all over the news now. I've never seen a player like him who is very volatile, even in the PBA. So, it's really normal that people would watch his highlights as they were amazed by a player who is not even a PBA player. Poypoy can easily win an MVP award if he can also help his team to be more competitive. As far as individual records go, he is already exceptional.

As we can see in the MPBL statistics, the top 1 in the average points only averages 17.9 PPG, quite low compared to what Poypoy has achieved. What he needs is consistency so he'll be an average points leader.

https://mpbl.web.geniussports.com/competitions/?WHurl=%2Fleaders%3F

He might get that hype if he will play with either SMC or MVPs' group of companies, else he might an ordinary player who achieve nothing and be back to MPBL, inside PBA there are lots of politics so even you are good in terms of skills but if both SMC and MVP group doesn't that interest to acquire you then it will end your career earlier.

Just saying, but who knows? Maybe he can be following the step of CJ Perez and earn the interest of influential team owner.

He's just getting his fame, and with that good chemistries with his teammates coach Tim is trusting him as one of their legit shooter, just in the young age of his pro career and he really giving that spot a green light from everyone inside the Brgy, looking forward to see details with how it would be and what are the potential, if how technology will help him to cope up with this injury.
I am hoping that he'll heal soon.

HAHAHAHA!  Pointing that one out, nothing but to fully agree coach Yeng will try to bring all the best with his players and not just to let them feel the tournament and try to learn from it, they are representing the county with the mindset of winning and not just to bring the flag hahaha..
Some words may have a meaning but it's just a typical thing to say that who knows if we might snatch a win. Doesn't sound confident but it's the usual reaction that we say to something that we really have no control over its results.

I'm not sure if I would agree with you on that because I believe that Coach Yeng has not proven anything yet as a coach in international games. If there's a coach whom I think would do better than Coach Chot, it should be Coach Tim Cone and not Coach Yeng or any other active PBA coaches now.

Let's see if he could bring success for the country. The last time I remember during the Jones Cup, there were some highlights on the internet showing how the Philippines was able to win by upsetting the USA. I'm not sure if that was the predecessor to the current event, but I'm hoping for the same success. However, under Coach Yeng, I'm not 100% confident he'll deliver.
That's okay and I agree with you that Coach Chot has got more experience than Yeng and it's just that he's not for these things. But we're seeing on how Coach Chot is managing the team through international games and he's reasoning out at most times just for the safe sake that all of these games are for learning.

Anyway, the thing with the ROS representing the Jones cup and having that statement by Yeng. It does really create a lot of meaning having that said but one thing for sure, he's different from Chot that don't have a winning mentality and just keeps on wanting more experience and learning.

Hoping that we will hear good updates regarding to that injury, it might possibly an old injury that being triggered witht that attempt to do a euro-step and his feet did not allign well, still positive that it won't be an career ending issue for him, still young and already playing comfortable with the team.
I'm not sure if he's got that much history on injury and if it's the one that has triggered it. But it's not really looking good and that's all the best thing that we can ever ask for, for his speedy recovery and hopefully this won't be the final season of his career and he'll be back soon.

By the way I read all the players and coach tim reaction, all of them are surprise and showing that they shared the pain for his fellow ka-brgy., That's the brotherhood and for sure the fans are feeling that same way.
Yes, that's how good being part of the barangay is and will always be. Anyway, the thing with the ROS representing the Jones cup and having that statement by Yeng. By his statement, it looks like he doesn't feel that ROS will be competitive enough in the Jones Cup. So I'm just curious, why was ROS chosen to represent our country in that league if they are not capable of winning?

As I read the statement, it was "maka-disgrasya" and not "madisgrasya".

In other words, Coach Yeng feels instead that Rain Or Shine is surely competitive in entering the upcoming Jones Cup as they might have a chance to beat other teams there despite playing mostly with locals (the Mighty Sports before who represents the PH in Jones Cup played with several imports).

Or am I the one who misread it? lol.

Anyways, Rain-Or-Shine being the representative of the PH country in the upcoming Jones Cup will surely bring great experience to their players. Guess what, that was a tough learning camp to consider as also part of the preparation for the upcoming PBA season in the late quarter of this year.

I clearly understand your point, and I read it right. The word "maka-disgrasya" doesn't imply confidence to me either. Because if Coach Yeng really believes that the team he will manage is capable enough of winning, he should have said that we will win, not just the possibility of winning (tuno na baka manalo kami). If I were in charge of sending teams to compete, I would not send someone who would say "baka manalo kami"; instead, I would choose those who would say "mananalo kami".

Quote
"Tingnan natin. I feel baka maka-disgrasya tayo ng ilang teams doon," said Guiao about the Elasto Painters' campaign in the August 12-20 meet at the Taipei Heping basketball gymnasium.

"Makadisgraya ng ilang teams", it does not have a winning mentality, it should be beating all teams.

IMHO, ROS is one of the team where the roster is complete aside from Magnolia and knowing that Magnolia is an SMC team so the board must have chosen an independent team to represent the Philippines in the Jones Cup. Competitive or not, that will not be the issue since Jones Cup is not a very prestigious basketball tournament (don't get me wrong) that you need to be in the top at the end of the tournament.

Hope there will be betting also in this Jones Cup as we don't have anymore basketball tournament that we could bet aside from WNBA.

Guys, have you seen the injury of Jeremiah Gray? Just looking at it makes me feel the pain. For those that have missed that, here's the news about him from spin.ph.

He's shouting in pain. Hopefully, it's not a career-ending injury, same with you just, by looking you'll feel the pain. Though with the advance technology and he's still young the chance of curing that injury might still be possible, it's really unavoidable when playing, even it's just an On-Tour game, players are doing their job to entertain the fans and they are really trying to bring that enjoyment.

Looking with that play, you would think that it is just a simple miss step doing that side euro step but when he fell down and shouting with pain, that replay will let you see that it's not an ordinary mistake but his feet did not follow properly that side step that he's planning to do, ending with this hard fell and an injury.
That's really something that needs a long time for recovery. Looking at how painful it was looks like a career-ending injury. But I just wish that he gets better. This was a tough time for him and this is also a lesson learned for him.

Hoping that we will hear good updates regarding to that injury, it might possibly an old injury that being triggered witht that attempt to do a euro-step and his feet did not allign well, still positive that it won't be an career ending issue for him, still young and already playing comfortable with the team.

The PBA tour is now over, so there won't be much action to witness going forward, except for the international games.

Speaking of international games, what do you think about Coach Yeng's statement?

THE pressure may be on, but Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao vows to bring the same gung-ho spirit the team has been known for when it represents the country in the 42nd Jones Cup.

Maybe because that they're just the available team to say yes? I don't know.

No idea too, but knowing coach Yeng that statement will be accompany by pride, let's see what they can do for that Jones cup tournament.
