Another sad news for the PBA. Looks like "Skyrus" Cyrus Baguio is retiring on the league.

Sad news in a way of it's totally fine. Not a sad moment at all since the PBA community already knows that coming. 40 years of age, now on a retirement period. I just can't imagine what's the feeling when he says, "he noticed his body no longer responds the way it used to when he was younger". An athletic player then slowly your body isn't taking part at all.

One of the best pure-blooded Pinoy who become a Slam Dunk Champion where the nickname "Skyrus" born.

I guess this is not a fresh news anymore.

You are right. I have noticed it too that I read the news somewhere else before.

Maybe this is a good solution rather than the bubble.

Guiao prefers mandatory PBA vaccination over another bubble season

If all the players and staff are getting the vaccine, then they can play in an arena while they can go to their family after the game. Unlike in bubble where they will have to sacrifice and stay in one location. So hopefully they have enough vaccine prior the start of the new season.

The signs were already there, according to the 40-year-old wingman, especially during his final year with NLEX when he noticed his body no longer responds the way it used to when he was younger.

And so there was no hesitation on his part when he talked to management about his plan to finally walk away from the game just when the Road Warriors were planning ahead for the league's coming 46th season.

After 16 years and three championships won, Baguio retired from the game where he spent the final three-and-a-half years of his career with NLEX.

I see this coming few years back because Cyrus was really affected by those injuries and he is not the same anymore when he come back particularly with NLEX but thanks coach Yeng, the one who give him the break of his career, he was still given the chance to play for them.

He may not have those explosiveness back in his younger days but he could mentor the young ones on what to do to be successful in their career especially when they are under the wings of coach Yeng.

I guess this is not a fresh news anymore.

This was dated JAN 24, 2021.

In preparations of more worse thing to happened, they needed to comes up with temporary solutions.

Bubble like what have mentioned above you, favors the gamblers as we can place our bets in the daily process, more odds more
ways of placing our bets and aimed for some  good luck to grow our capital.

New normal way still far as the covid cases still rising PBA boards together with the team owners
see this as their last resort.
That's the temporary solution that you're saying, they're probably be really ending up with a bubble. There's no other solution at this time unless the cases are going to drop.
But it looks like there's no dropping soon but I hope to see that drop in cases soon so that the league will be open to audiences again but as long as they're in the bubble, we can watch it comfortably at our homes.

But unfortunately the cases still rising and we still got 5 digit records everyday together with ECQ is extended so maybe these will take long months before they can find better solution on how they can start the league. The only solution what I see right now is the mass vaccination so hopefully their will be enough vaccine on upcoming months so that we may have a hard immunity and all things will place in good state and possibly for that we can see our favorite sports starting if not in normal but minimal risk situation again.

They started the vaccination program already but I believe the vaccine is not enough that's why the government are putting this ECQ measures again. The PBA has no choice but to go back to the bubble format, otherwise, we will not see an NBA season this year, just to be realistic.

We can still watch it comfortably in our homes. the cases won't gonna give up some green light in the coming days especially in the Metro Manila area. there's no way we can watch this season again in the coliseum like how we used to before this pandemic or whatsoever. But the atmosphere is not the same for the players. nevertheless, the season will continue as long as all the players are fine and safe when they are playing.

Playing in PBA helps gamblers a lot although not enough vaccines are available these games are becoming popular in corona through online play. A very good chance to win every day basketball has brought a reputation for the country by participating in various national and international competitions as a player of the national team which is known worldwide as a very popular sport. The teams have not been able to secure the championship either because of poor drafts non committed ownership or simply under achievement on the big stage it could be a franchise with no elite superstars more than any other league.
We are not superior in international competition that's the big reason why we did not win a championship, as you can see our height average is way lower compared to other countries such us USA, and europian teams, Asian teams are not that tall especially the Filipinos.

PBA board considering another 'bubble season' in wake of delays

Another bubble means daily games to witnessed, that's the benefit for us who like to gamble on PBA because we will have more chance to gamble daily unlike in regular scheduled where games are only in Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Actually its already expected to have another "bubble season" because of the increasing number again of the infected, not only in ncr but also in the nearby provinces. This is the problem that we fought more than a year already but it seems there's no improvement even there's a vaccine available.

Well anyway this is good for gamblers who like to watch game daily and bet.

Well, in the current situation that we are in right now its obvious that another "bubble season" will happen. The number of cases right now especially in NCR and its nearby places are still increasing way higher than what it is last year. For gamblers out there, that would be a good sign since they can gamble again in PBA Cheesy. Its just good that they will push through even though we are in a very hard situation right now.

Maybe Blackwater will save this guy this season, don't you think?  Grin
Might be but I don't think that he is a perfect fit there. They already have too many guards (7 base on PBA website) and they don't need another one. What BlackWater needs is a reliable paint protector. Maybe Paras can fill that spot but overall, Blackwater will not be a playoff contender still.

That's our speculation last time so they have no choice. Increased covid cases, possible more lockdowns again in the future, they will be coming up with a solution just for this season to continue.
Although this may seem to be the last week of this lockdown yet they really have to consider the bubble.

In preparations of more worse thing to happened, they needed to comes up with temporary solutions.

At least they are ready and they have this plan in place.. so this is it, we are seeing a bubble again. Actually for me it's alright since I can watch them live and I can bet at the same time, maybe bad for PBA as their revenue expectation will not be meet but this is just part of the challenge.

Too bad if he will play with the Blackwater, he has no chance to win a championship with this team but he can still get a contract. I guess Blackwater is also focus on young players, so I'm not sure he still has a space in this team.

With this news, PBA may resume soon and there maybe no signing anymore.

Blackwater doesn't have a plan to became a champion they throw away there important piece thats why many think about they are a farm team. If they settled to hold their players and create a good young team for sure they will get a chance but looks like SMC corporation pays a lot of money unto them since every good player on their tean has been traded and theie roostee left is so questionable

Alex Mallari, Jay-R Reyes now free agents after Phoenix exit

We have free agents here, I don't know about Jay-R Reyes impact in a team but I guess Alex Mallari still has something to give in a team. Maybe some team could acquire him in free agency, he can be a good help especially in defense.

Jay-R Reyes is one of the most dominant Forward-Center during his prime days in Rain Or Shine. He is part of the original ROS team (former Welcoat).

His prime is now past and now entering the retirement period. He is not performing well for several seasons now. Since it's pandemic, I think he should consider hanging his jersey now. I doubt a team will still interested in him or if there's any, expect that the contract is not that decently.

Still young at 36 but have already past his prime, while Alex Mallari is just 34 years old and though not on his prime anymore but the way I see it, he can still play well if given a good role in a team. Maybe Magnolia could be interested in him, Calvin knows him and that is Alex old team.

I really don't know what's in it with Jay-R Reyes, he got the height but it seems that he never played to his full potential. He is one of the players that Welcoat thought that will dominate in the PBA but that never happen. With the young players around and lot of free agents, i don't think PBA teams are interested in his service.

I agree with that, but how about Alex Mallari? Do you think he will land a team before the opening of the new season? He is a free agent together with Jay-R Reyes but Mallari is younger and still looks hunger to contribute the best he can for his team, if not only because of injury, he could have played more with the Phoenix.

With Alex Mallari, i think there is another issue on his case.

His style of play or the way he play is not so impressive that his position can be taken by a full bloodied Pinoy with lower salary.

We all know that every team has a limit on the number of Fil-Foreigner on its team so i think Phoenix is planning to draft Fil-foreigner next season (just my thought) if there is an opportunity to pick high caliber Fil-ams, but still i think it's the ratio with salary with respect to performance is the main reason why Phoenix was letting him go.

Maybe Blackwater will save this guy this season, don't you think?  Grin
