Alex Mallari, Jay-R Reyes now free agents after Phoenix exit

We have free agents here, I don't know about Jay-R Reyes impact in a team but I guess Alex Mallari still has something to give in a team. Maybe some team could acquire him in free agency, he can be a good help especially in defense.

Jay-R Reyes is one of the most dominant Forward-Center during his prime days in Rain Or Shine. He is part of the original ROS team (former Welcoat).

His prime is now past and now entering the retirement period. He is not performing well for several seasons now. Since it's pandemic, I think he should consider hanging his jersey now. I doubt a team will still interested in him or if there's any, expect that the contract is not that decently.

Still young at 36 but have already past his prime, while Alex Mallari is just 34 years old and though not on his prime anymore but the way I see it, he can still play well if given a good role in a team. Maybe Magnolia could be interested in him, Calvin knows him and that is Alex old team.
For Reyes, I think his experience will also suit whichever team will take him just like Mallari. But whichever team will take any of the two won't be expecting a lot from them anymore and not of that impact until they prove themselves that experience through their career can be a good contribution and help to the possible team they'll be in.

I think many teams will go for Alex Mallari but whoever goes first or whoever goes with the best deal and contract, he's going to be there. But it's a higher chance that he's still going to be with a team after being a free agent.

I hope so, I already read some news about some players getting signed but these two has no contract until now. I follow his career and I can say he is a good defender though not so consistent in terms of offence, but getting him in the 2nd unit of a team, I guess he would be just fine.

Maybe he is not at his prime anymore, his best seasons in the PBA was with the star or the magnolia hotshots now.
I have known a bit of his career and he's still a good player to be considered by any of the team. Well, the season hasn't started yet and this probably has alarmed already the other teams that they can get some good player as addition and part of their team.
Wishing him luck that there will be a team to really take him before the season.

Mallari and Reyes are still good I second you with your statement about placing them in the second squad,

they can bring some quality minutes if the  star  players are in need of rest. Though they both can still play but no longer the same type of speed and power, they already aging and that's really affects the way they play the game, plus those past injuries that also affecting their footwork.

Looking forward to see them playing still while they can still give some for this league.

If this will be successful, it's going ot be a more improve Vic Manuel.

I believe they are trying to make him like Justin Chua, a big man who can shoot 3s but haven't really seen Manuel making a lot of 3 points shots in his old team.

Not a good idea for me. Manuel is already on the veteran age and then this is just time to practice threes?

Practicing on three? For what? Why not just let him work on his main role where he is dominant. Again as I said, he's already past his prime so adjusting to a different position, where he is not used to be for several years, will be a difficult role for him.

It's even better if he would master a 3 point shoot because that would help him when he will not be as dominant as he was in the inside. There are big mans who can shoot 3s, maybe that's what the Phoenix are trying to achieve here, they want their big man to be versatile so they can contribute inside and outside. Manuel is known for his inside presence, but he is in a new team with different culture so he has to adjust.

Phoenix, not just being bankrupt, becomes out of nowhere of thinking.

Let's give them a chance to prove this year, maybe we are wrong then.

Looks like we already have a hint when Andre will go after the Blackwater Elite.
Yeah, that was already discussed, and verified that he's going to go with Blackwater Elite as his starting team after the team has drafted the team. And he's given a two-year contract on that team.

I'm afraid if Ginebra is really intersted on him, he might be traded before the contract expires, and Andre is also eager to play with Ginebra as that was the dream. Hmmmm.... we are seeing this kind of trend, but let's just wait first and see how he will play, it's important that he will impress everyone and stay healthy to maintain his good value.

Maybe Ginebra is eyeing to have another vinz the prince type player! hahaha.. Kidding aside, it's his father dream but money is more
bigger than anything.

Shell offer him a franchise a contract that assures you for a lifetime business, from his era(Benjie Paras) that's really something
that you can't just ignore, maybe if Andre show something that triggered Ginebra's interest maybe this might happen, who knows
maybe he have that talent right?

Yeah, that's possible. Blackwater will trade/sell him for a higher deal on Ginebra but that's okay. He's just starting out and he can enjoy wherever he is right now.
Everyone heard of the news about extended ECQ for a week? this will really affect the start of the season which should about to happen next week.

That's how it is, the government are looking at the entire situation and there is a need for a strict measures, we should see some update from the PBA about this matter but as far as I read before, there's an article saying that the start of the PBA season is doubtful due to the ECQ. However, if they will really like to follow the schedule, they need to get back to the bubble set up.
Yeah, it's now doubtful because of the situation and more cases are always being reported which is hard to believe though. But that's it, the league's purpose won't come by this opening schedule, IMHO.
But we will see if they're going to have an alternative or they'll just simply move the opening.

It's just strange that there's less updates now that the season is about to start, probably it will not push based on schedule as they might not have anticipated that the ECQ will be implemented. Maybe next week we will see some updates about the start, but let's not expect some good news, let's be realistic and understand the current situation.

Barangay Ginebra also took interest in Andre Paras

Farm team mold players to prepare them and ship to a bigger team, and Paras father's dream is for him to be part of the popular ball club in the PBA, so this makes sense.

Quote
The 25-year-old Paras landing at Ginebra could have been the culmination of the long-time dream of Andre’s father, Benjie Paras, to be part of the family of the country’s most popular ballclub.

Count on Vic Manuel to attempt more three-pointers at Phoenix

If this will be successful, it's going ot be a more improve Vic Manuel.

I believe they are trying to make him like Justin Chua, a big man who can shoot 3s but haven't really seen Manuel making a lot of 3 points shots in his old team.
I think that it's going to be a good style if they'll improve Manuel's 3 point shooting. It's not enough if big guys are only under the ring but also if they can do outside shooting.

Probably the training for the Phoenix is for everyone, no exemption, every big man has to learn how to shoot 3s consistently so they are more dangerous, wat I admire most on the team is their defense, they have improve it already and I hope there will be more improvement in the season to come, if it will not be postponed due to the lockdown in some areas.
Let's all be positive that it will still going to continue despite the lockdown, seems that they have no choice to get into a bubble again. The cases are a lot reported today.

A player that is very strong at the paint and at the same time, a good three point shooter? Hello Giannis or Hello AD Cheesy.

Well, this will be a big improvement for him if he will try to pull this one out in the league. We already know that despite of his height disadvantage over other bigs in the league, he is a great player inside the paint that is why he is "Muscle Man".

As per my opinion, the roster of Phoenix has already bigs that can shoot threes such as Perkins, Chua and Manuel if he will be. Like @vaculin said, he can just stay at the paint and just generate points out there and shooting threes for him isn't necessary since we saw him dominating the paint many times already all throughout his career but can't blame if the team wants him to shoot threes then so be it. Lets just see if this will be a success or a fail.
