Congratulations to Ranidel de Ocampo de ocampo, he is now back with the TNT after the retirement, but with a different role.

Read the full stories.

TnT reunites with Ranidel de Ocampo, tapped as part of coaching staff

His journey with the PBA will continue as part of the coaching staff. It's really good to see PBA players who can still have the work after they retire, just like Jimmy Alapag, now we have RDO working, also hoping that he will be a successful coach in the PBA just like Jimmy " The Mighty Mouse".

Calvin Abueva confirms receiving Japan offer, but says not biting - yet

Commissioner Marcial has to lift the suspension soon if he still want Abueva to play in the PBA, this guy already has an offer and for sure with a bigger salary, he has not entertain the offer yet as he might just want to play in the PBA.

Quote
CALVIN Abueva confirmed on Saturday that he received an offer to play in the Japanese B.League, but said he's not biting - yet.

Hours after posting a message about an offer from a Japan team on his Instagram page, the controversial PBA player bared that an offer from one of the B.League teams was relayed to him by an agent/ friend.

“May alok ako, tinext ako nung kaibigan kong agent. Hinahanap nga raw ako sa kanya ng isang Japanese team,” said Abueva, who declined to identify the agent or the team that he said wants to approach him.

If they will listen to the fans, Commissioner Marcial will give us the good news, and it's nice to hear from Calvin that he would still prefer to play in the PBA but we know if he will get tired of waiting, he might bite the offer and his contract with the Phoenix will also expire soon.

This is complicated on the side of Abueva but i agree with his decision on not biting the offer. His contract with Phoenix will expire few months from now so he must not leave the country so that anytime they can talk with the management of the Fuel Masters and he must pursue for a long term one, maybe his as he is getting older. Being an import in Japan, he will get only short term contract with no guarantee of an extension. He should be loyal to Phoenix so that the team will give him good term, on the contract of course  Smiley.

You have a point, the level of competition in Japan could be different and they can just not renew the contract of a player if they don't like it anymore, so for long term it might be a disadvantage for him.

There are also rumors that they are targeting Terrence Romeo, so it looks like Filipino talents have become a world class talent already as other countries are interested to hire them.

All of what I said is coming from this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U9IsLi2wEc ( it also tackles Thirdy Ravena's contract)

That's good for our players, they can showcase their talent outside the Philippines especially for young players.
Good example is Thirdy Ravena.

https://www.manilatimes.net/2020/06/26/sports/triple-pay-awaits-ravena-in-japan/735309/

here's what would interest you guys coming from the above article.

Quote
According to a 2019 article in Japan Times, the average base salary of Japanese players is $147,000.00 or P7,354,851 per year as of November.

In the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), the salary of a rookie is P170,000 per month or P2.4 million per year, P4.95 million lower than a Japanese baller’s salary.

So since Ravena is an import, he will not get the average, so probably he will earn more or less 1 million pesos per month. Isn't it nice.
This would also be a call for the PBA to improve their salary scale for the players as other countries are already competing with them.

Absolutely but if he doesn't have a choice for sure he will get the offer considering how big the amount he can get if he will play on japan and also it's a big exposure for him to play overseas for sure after that if he will get a good result there the PBA chiefs will allow him to play. He should really be loyal to phoenix but the question is do really need to do it? Its a business so best he should go on what's best for him.

We have good coaches already, if you are referring to our performance during international competition, that is not mainly due to the coach, it's due to our height.. we are Asians and our height average are lower than other race like americans and Europeans, so it's really hard for us to compete well.

Agree to that, we do have good coaches who can compete internationally, height advantages comes from different races even we have the skills but depending taller with same speed and skills that really hard for our players.

June Mar is 6′ 11″, playing as center but he is not fast unlike in US especially in the NBA where we can see a tall and a faster player.

For example we have Lebron James which is 6′ 9″, he is tall but he can play in different position, current a PG in the LA Lakers, no big man can do that in the Philippines, also one good example is Kevin Durant, one of the best players in the NBA which is even taller than Lebron James at 6′ 10″, so it's really hard, we just have to be contented if we win the FIBA Asia as that's the best play for the competition.

The PBA was insulted, the sound of the comment might be interpreted very negative, putting 3 imports in one team would simply mean local players are not fun to watch, that's my impression, it's an insult to them.
Very possible, interpretations might be different between Coach Tab and the governors and coaches, and if also you are a big fans of the PBA you won't take that changes to happen, seeing 3 imports inside and only 2 locals stats wise for the local players will surely be affected.

I just hope there are more options on how our coaches will improve.

Gilas Pilipinas and TnT KaTropa are two different entities so i think his post in the National won't be affected.
He still handling the training program where for sure it's best to keep him from that post, Coach Tab talents handling and developing players is very important, he's exposures from international leagues will help the organization being well prepared.

Yeah, this sanction might be too much but may be there is something that we don't know in public that's worth all of this. We, Pinoys are too emotional but to think of it, coach Tab is here long ago to learn this characteristic of Filipinos so he should have said it in a mildly manner, not too harsh.

He's being straight forward might hurt a lots of pinoy coaches, though it's his personal opinions and it's still up to PBA if they want to adopt the system that he said or not.

Yeah, I think the bosses didn't see the criticism as something helpful, is it because of the issue with 3 foreign players each team? or maybe more. Honestly I may be against it but he really have a point. 1 import makes the coach of a certain team rely too much on that player because we know imports dominate the game against local ones, in my understanding, he wants 3 imports for the coaches be better in handling players. Its kind of hard to see 3 imports in a game in 1 team but its good that it also tackles the improvement of coaches as well in Philippine basketball.

He don't have any competition inside the court since there's no one gonna match on his height and strength but I have doubts in mind if he will still dominant after the big injury acquired,
There was none anymore since Greg is not playing in the PBA, but before Greg quit the PBA, there was a competition between them.
Greg maybe is not good in offense as Fajardo, but they have a good match up defensively, so now it's all Fajardo.

Sire people will miss GREGZILLA Grin

But I think he's strong since he's not old yet and might he will comeback more stronger since he is at rest for quite long time. He benefited the long time quarantine so I assume he is at full health when he comeback on the court in next opening.

We will find out once he returns in action, probably next year.

About the TNT's performance, yes, maybe they are doing better but for me it's not enough, they need to prove by winning and be in the finals at least, I can't remember, when was the last time they reach the Finals, was with when they have Jones playing with them?

You know what, i don't believe that TnT is having a problem on the coaching side. For me, the problem of Ka Tropa and all other teams is very huge and that is the 6' 10" Junemar "Kraken" Fajardo. Before Fajardo arrive in the PBA, TnT was doing just fine, going to the finals every now and then but when the Kraken showed up, the rest is history.

That could be the exact reason, and now that Greg already left the PBA, JMF will dominate more as long as he comes back fully healthy. Maybe there will be a closer competition in the PBA if Fjardo would retire, but it might take a while as for sure he is still aiming to add more on his achievement.

TNT is one of the best shooters in the PBA as what I have noticed, under coach Dickel (let me call him a coach for this discussion) you can see that players are very confident in shooting from the outside as that is what they master since they can't master the inside as whatever they will do, they can't beat Fajardo in the post.

If we look at the plays of the SMF, their main offense is Fajardo but stopping Fajardo needs two players to do that which any team has to take the other poison which the SMB shooters might be unstoppable too.

I don't know too, but it seems like the PBA now is pretty much dominated by FAJARDO, not the SMB.

Dickel  is not only a consultant, he also act like their head coach, maybe if they are really cost cutting, they just let go of Bong Ravena as it's very visible to us that it was Dickel  who are coaching. To me, though Ravena was given the position as the head coach but he looks like an assistant coach or just part of the coaching staff.

Redundancy of position might be the appropriate term here  Grin, cost cutting is not cause we know how wealthy MVP is. Russlenat already posted above why can't foreign can't be name as head coach so i won't elaborate more on that.

Training program for the TNT or the Gilas Pilipinas?
I have not followed the details of his job, would you enlighten me on that?

He is a consultant on the TnT Katropa and at the same time he is the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) program director, this post was given to him last year if my memory serves me right. Just recently, there's an article about the reason why TnT let go of him, they said they are doing fine last season and they still have Dickel as active consultant as well, maybe cost cutting as well.

The improvement they are talking are more on the offense, I don't see a good improvement in terms of defense, that's just my opinion too, maybe others sees something about the team.

There was an answer on that already.

You guys please read this article which is over 1 year old already.

Why Mark Dickel can't be named TnT coach even if he calls the shots

Here's the answer to the question.

Quote
Why can't foreign coaches be officially named head coaches in Philippines?

The BCAP, you see, got a favorable ruling from the Court of Appeals back in 2002 prohibiting foreign coaches from assuming head-coaching positions in the PBA - a job which it determined can be competently performed by a Filipino, as per Article 40 of the Labor Code.

The rule specifies that employment permit can only be issued upon ‘the determination of the non-availability of a person in the Philippines, who is competent, able and willing at the time of application to perform the services for which the alien is desired.’

Therefore they will remain with that kind of set up as they Dickel can never be named as the head coach of the TNT.

For sure if things will not go on his side he will find ways to earn money and if the offer in japan will be more bigger for sure he will bite that, but who knows if that's statement is true or not but let see the development since calvin suspension should be lifted since he suffer to much from those incident so I think he will play decently on the court(I don't mean he will play soft for clarification just for the fans interaction)

Training program for the TNT or the Gilas Pilipinas?
I have not followed the details of his job, would you enlighten me on that?

For me, Gilas and PBA although separate but most of its players are still coming from the PBA, so if PBA would not want him anymore, I think the big boss could influence somehow, but I hope it will stop from here.
