I think from the coins you need to invest in Ethereum, NEO, ADA, EOS, RIPPLE. Of the tokens that are now released on the exchange, you can and should buy ONL and XYO.

I actually agree with this. Investing in the top 20 altcoins such as (EOS, NEO, and ADA as available for your amount) will be fewer risks. They have had the good volume on the market and the price is more stable.
However, when you want to take more risks to get higher profits, ICO is absolutely the best choice. And regarding what ICO you can choose, I'm sure that you have known about it. You have known how to analyze and research the potential ICO for the future.
With a capital worth $500, then you can buy coins with a low enough price only. because if investing in coins with high prices, you can't play the daily trading. It is already a good starting capital to invest in altcoins, and for sure just separates your capital into five types of coins, because not all altcoins are having good future of price growth, and mostly now all altcoins are dumping of price market value because of rapid selling after ICO's ends.

I'm not an expert but here's my suggestion, that amount ( $500 ) i think much better to invest in Bitcoin if you want a long term goal or in Ethereum because that both coin it can give you a profit when the time comes. Anyways, before you invest your money in any altcoin make sure you do some research to that coin.
Investing money you say. I know that is very risky to put money on Crypto. Aside from the risk, there are security issues that needs to be solved. But more risks means more profit. So I suggest that you put that 500$ of yours to Eth, Ripple, and Litecoin.
