I would suggest you to divesify your money into 3 to 5 coins in order to minimize the risk. If you want a low risk I would suggest you holding bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin and other top coins. But I you want to invest in high risk but very profitable you can.look for a cheap coin that has big potential in the future.
I would divide the investment between ETH and EOS. I think these are good coins for investment.

I am not an expert in crypto but i think if we want to invest crypto with $500, i think i will choose Ravencoin and waves. We can choose one of that coin or we divide our investment on both coin. I am believe on both coin because the team behind the project is solid
I would suggest that half the $500 USD should be invested with btc and the remaining half for ETH. For me, btc and eth are good potential coin for investment and it has been on the market for such a longer time where it is safer to invest than the rest of the existing coins. Just continue to hold your coins a bit longer then will see what will happen next. Just do not sell your coins during bear market for you will just end of losing your investment.
There are many existing altcoins out there are worth buying for but if you can risk at all then Join ICO Projects, invest money on them you can join/participate on their bounties for extra incomes/profits.
