Saw this study on twitter... https://twitter.com/Zeex_me/status/978981735101878272

I've seen a lot of people asking about how many legit ICOs there are, so I thought I'd share

Quote from the article: "The study begins by breaking down ICOs into 6 groups: Scam, Failed, Gone Dead, Dwindling, Promising, Successful. “On the basis of the above classification,” they wrote, “we found that approximately 81% of ICO’s were Scams, ~6% Failed, ~5% had Gone Dead, and ~8% went on to trade on a exchange.”

"Scams were defined by researchers as “Any project that expressed availability of [an] ICO investment (through a website publishing, ANN thread, or social media posting with a contribution address), did not have/had no intention of fulfilling project development duties with the funds, and/or was deemed by the community (message boards, website or other online information) to be a scam.”

DYOR people ...
although in fact it is like that but I really do not want to stop and leave crypto and ico because I am sure I will find ico and project that is really good and culminate with success and now I have found it and joined in their bounty

Yes, I agree that the majority of projects it to skam. Very few projects really as a result realize the idea and technology. And some projects even something won't be tried to be done but only will raise money and all. Therefore it is necessary to choose projects very attentively.

I have read statistics yet where it was said that most ICO campaigns collect money without the aim to make business and make investment returning. No need to pay for that otherwise just study the projects closely.https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.41123983

indeed, most of ICO are fake, but they will soon have to make a more harder set of rules for ICO, which should reduce the number of scams

The details of the report are scaring,81 percent is a lot to be scam. The proliferation of ICOs makes it a bit more  difficult to know the right project to invest in.One thing is clear however:we cannot over-emphasize the importance of DYOR (Doing your own research)before buying into any project.

I do not see anything surprising in these figures. many people think that it is very easy to create projects and I will not be interesting to everyone to make money. in fact, not so. many just try to trick people into making money on it.

Unfortunately, recent projects have been scam. they only do it to collect money. This is a very bad situation for this ecosystem

Yes, true. in these days I think over 90% are scam. Also most of the projects fail without reaching even their softcap. I think this is due to the current market condition.

The ICO project is indeed a lot of fraudsters. Investment needs to be cautious. After seeing some of my friends investing in fraud, I have lost confidence in the ICO market. Now I only invest in buying and selling cryptocurrencies! It is best for beginners not to blindly invest, and the risk is great!

It may not  become that  time-consuming to reveal a non-legit ITO, simply check the members considering their public backgrounds meticulously and decide if these look authentic.

It unfortunate, but you might just be right, most ICOs in the recent past are nothing but scams., most of them so well planned that its almost impossible to notice that they are good for nothing, This has been one of the major reasons as to why most have exited or even given up on ICOs, its however our duty to carryout exhaustive research before committing out monies to ICOs to avoid being fraud victims, for if you are not careful, you will be scammed out of your money and there is nothing you can do to get them back

Exactly, during last half a year I noticed that even sucessfull ICOs are turning into scams.
This  underlines fact, that you have to select ICO properly and what is more, you can't predict outcome.

Totally agree with you. ICO is a hype. Earning on this is a short-term prospect. To invest in long term in a new project that does not have a finished product - the top of carelessness. Top coins - there is a top. These coins are likely to grow in a growing market. Therefore, it is better for me to invest in them

I think so.
We can be cheaten by others if we are not careful enough.
We need to make enough research while we do the the investment.
The more careful we are, the better we will be.
Just do the right thing.

Yes majority of the ICO nowadays is scam and hype only. That is why you should check the ICO review by ICO experts on the website. Also if you feel the project will progress please do review their white paper, the team behind to develop the project, and more importantly the purpose of the coin or token to the world.

This is really a very terrible statistics that continues to move further in this direction and no one wants to create anything to change this, even the SEC that integrated KYC AML can not in any way affect this scam.

This will continue to grow as we all know the crypto currency is becoming more and more popular, and since people want to get easy money they want to involve in crypto currency as it is answering the people's demand withal bonus of being decentralized and anonymous record for the investors. But the good thing facebook is minimizing it by banning crypto currency add this can reduce the scam promotion.

I don't really know what's the exact percent of ICOs that are just scams these days but per experience, it may be correct and i've been into different bounty campaign from ICOs that turned to be a scam midway through the token sale. Even though i am just participating in social media campaign, i feel like i really wasted my time and effort to a scam ICO.
