This is a very sad story and get to shows a lot about the need to take the psychological aspect of gambling seriously. There are many reason why this ugly incidence could happen such as the following:
  • The gambler being so poor and have not seen such amount in his life, so he couldn't handle the reality of having such money, hence the shock killed him
  • He might be sick such as being hypertensive so the shock of the winning triggered the sickness
It is therefore important we always ensure we develop the right frame of mind before indulging in gambling because it is an emotionally demanding activity that is not suitable for certain health conditions.

Most likely it's the second case, he could have been sick already and he might have felt it before, but he just ignore the signs and so when he win big, it triggered his health issues causing him to collapse and then later die and never see the huge win that he had won.

Hopefully, he was able to cash it out and his family can used that money for a proper burial. This is just one case that might really be the sad reality for every gamblers. And we should really be prioritizing our health as well and have checkup first before we used that money to gamble. Otherwise, our families are going to grieved by this very sad story of winning big in exchange of your life. And they can only wish that you didn't gamble and win.

I don't know what the criteria of this type of post is, beyond reporting such a particular case, then falling into the type of questions you ask... it is relative to the individual, that is, we will have thousands of conversations.

But in relation to the subject, when playing poker there are three incredibly exciting phases, that is, depending on the prizes, as mentioned in your thread, and those are the Bubble, the final table and the HH, it is incredibly exciting, stressful and the heart starts to have a high heart rate... but in the long run you get used to it but it is still exciting.

At some point, we can say that if we can't control our emotions, it can lead to outcomes we never intended—especially for older folks. Life is unpredictable; we never know how long we have it.

Gambling might not be the sole reason behind this incident. If a person had health issues before gambling, they could face life-threatening situations at any time. It just so happens that having a big win leads to a tragic end. I believe no one ever wants these things to happen, and certainly, no one expects such outcomes. In the end, it remains an unfortunate accident, and this highlights the importance of managing our emotions in everything we do.

He died after winning 2.5K USD? 2.5K USD isn't a huge amount. I can guess that the gambler was old and probably sick. Most gamblers don't have a very healthy lifestyle. I won't die even if I win a million dollars from the lottery. I'm not that greedy and I'm still young and healthy.
Losing money is a bigger emotional burden than winning money. I would probably get depressed, if I lose a big amount of money.
What about the reward? Will the bookie pay out the reward to the heirs of that gambler? I can assume that the bookie will keep the reward, since the gambler is dead.
$2.5k might not be a huge amount to you but somewhere in the world that amount is a fortune to the person that owns it. Heart disease is not exclusive to old people nowadays, I've heard of many stories where young and vibrant people have slumped and died. Lifestyles and genetic inheritance can cause and trigger some sicknesses that can be life threatening like high blood pressure. People should mentain healthy lifestyles and always have checkups to know their health statues. I think that it helps to imagine ourselves owning huge amounts of money so that when we hit the jackpot it couldn't shock us too much

Yeah, everyone has a certain amount upward, and they can consider a huge amount for them. $2.5k is a huge amount to some people and if given that money, they will never be in poverty anymore. You know if such a gambler has money he will go for a checkup but I don't think this gambler we are talking about has ever seen good money in his life and that is why he was so happy. The excitement is the cause of the man slumping. If he had controlled himself it wouldn't have gotten to that stage.
Indeed, this amount is large for him personally, and for others it may seem small, because each of us lives in different locations and has different earnings. The most important thing here is that it happened, and perhaps it could have happened not because of gambling, but a few days later while riding a bicycle, for example, because he could have had hidden health problems that he did not know about. In short, I can only advise you to monitor your health more carefully and limit gambling if we start to feel even a little unwell, but this may not help us in the end.

What that is very important is to have the bet slip or able to access the deceased account. This can be done if his email address is known and which can be used to access his account. Or if they have the bet slip, they can take it to the agent to claim the amount won.

Tell me you're just joking. A third party to go and claim the winning on his behalf? Is that even possible at all? Maybe yes but definitely not in my place here. Before I quit playing bet in shops, we normally have problem of this kind with the cashiers and they're not paying any dime to third party unless you present yourself physically to claim your winning. They gave a legitimate reason that they had faced challenges in the past where people still others ticket to come and claim the winning in their absent.

Perhaps, this policy is easy to implement due to limited number of players in the environment and of course the locality of the center. I don't know the general rule of third party claiming the winning of another person in gambling thou but I'm sure it's going to be stressful if at all it's possible.

So he died of excitement because he got $2.5K. I understand that the purchasing power of that money in Nigeria is higher than in other places, but I still think it is not that much and either he had a very bad economic situation, or there are other factors that may have influenced him, such as smoking, alcoholism, etc.

With the recent economic turmoil, that amount is very insignificant to result in such condition no matter the level of poverty someone is into. If the story is true, it's possible the deceased is having some heath challenges that coincide with that winning. It would have been a different case if the money comes from nowhere but something you used your own hand to play and anticipate the winning, how will that shock you to coma and eventually death? Why play when you're not ready for the win? It's just unfortunate thou.

Heck 2.5K USD is lot of money here in Indonesia those amount of money that is equivalent to one year of salary here in my city and of course with that amount of money people like really win jackpot and slap in the face.
Personally I never win a jackpot in a gambling and my last jackpot is from the bounty and hits around almost 2K but it happen a year ago after i receive that amount i think i been dreaming and never know that this going to be that lot

I got really interested when I saw the minimum wage, and based on my research, it’s over $100+ at the minimum.
https://www.aseanbriefing.com/news/indonesias-minimum-wage-rates-for-2024/

It’s definitely a big win, but to collapse and die is just unfortunate since the winner wouldn’t get the chance to enjoy their prize. Most likely, it was his first big hit and they wasn't a high-stakes gambler. So, to all gamblers out there, make sure to check on your heart health....just in case you hit a big win in the future, you can actually enjoy it!

Cases like this, it could be that the person has history of internal diseases such as heart disease so that when certain surprising condition occurs that causes heart pressure to increase significantly until it leads to death, I think this is lesson for those who have history of internal diseases such as heart disease to be more careful.
I personally have never experienced big win that really moved me to the point of fainting, but I think maybe if I really got the jackpot, I would definitely prostrate myself in gratitude for the win and of course I would be very happy.
What is clear and what is on my mind is certainly not about the money that can be brought or not but tends more towards feelings of happiness and thinking about improving life with better finances and using all the winnings as best as possible, after all people with normal health will never experience anything bad if they experience series of wins like this.
Yes, maybe there is a history of illness that when there is a trigger it can cause the illness to relapse and eventually faint and die. Because in my opinion, no matter how happy someone is, they will probably express very happy and that can make the emotion of happiness overflow and when there is no history of any illness it might not trigger anything. Of course this is a personal perception.
Because from the story or OP's post we don't see what kind of situation is there, it is only taken from social media posts, so there is no more detailed chronology that we can see. So if so, then we will definitely have an opinion about the disease that relapsed causing death.

It does not mean anything how young or healthy you are, have you not seen how many young persons die because of heart attacks in every part of the world and they are in full health and they still die because of such thing. Of course emotions when not contained can play bad tricks like this horrible thing that happened to him. I think he was heavily emotioned when played and he must have had an heart attack because of him being a more emotionally person than normal. I have seen some relative of mine that she almost died when she hit state lottery which was 90.000 dollars at that time and she was young, we told her to calm down and she got so euphoric that she could not stop herself from it so yes emotions can play bad tricks on people.

we can consider the loss, but we don't know how much money we get when we are lucky, a strong sense of shock and maybe he also has a history of heart disease, so when he won a large amount he was very shocked and fainted until finally he lost his life
isn't it strange? That you're hoping to win such amount and when you eventually win you can't handle the feelings that comes with winning big.

The thing I can take out of this story is to know what works well for you and never over do things regardless of what others are doing. It doesn't matter how you paint it , if your mind can't carry certain thing, don't put yourself in such position and assume you will find a way out of it when it eventually happens. Now he has gotten the breakthrough that would have made a huge impact in his financial life and all there is to it is lesson for others to learn from while he's totally out of the equation.

For me, I wouldn't want to brag but no amount of money can break me down instantly. It will take couple of hours, days or weeks to fully get myself and process things out if I hit an amount that's of this range in a single bet but I think I've grown past that stage that I can break down for something like this.

Cases of dieing before even getting to receive the amount one has won in a bet is increasing by the day with some gamblers staking to win an amount that's above what Thier emotion can carry and when they win, some faint and die instantly because they've not seen such amount of money in their account

It shows that many people are having heart related sicknesses that they're not aware of and when they hear a shocking or unbelievable news that relates to them, it can affect their health. The deceased man in the story probably had BP (high blood pressure) and it probably triggered when he heard that he'd won an amount that he had never owned in his life. There's need for people to always go for regular checkups and be on medication if they have health issues. If the man was healthy the surprise of his bet win wouldn't have killed him, even if he was shocked at the amount it wouldn't have resulted to his death.

I am able to win huge and just need to prepare a further plan regarding the money whether to invest or something else
I completely agree with you in terms of investing money. This is what wise people do, believe me. It's a pity that sometimes I have to make do as best I can. I wish I could hit the jackpot in this life... but! I just can't seem to get lucky. I've made so many attempts and still can't achieve the desired result. Can your goal be considered a jackpot?

He may have a heart attack due to the lack of excessive emotional control. Basically, human body senses are very complex and it can be difficult to adapt to any easily sensitive subject. He could not control the heart touching feeling of getting extra money where money matters were concerned. Yes, he may have physical problems, but any healthy person can be at risk of heart attack. So every time members of this forum give tips to control your emotions while gambling which can be instructive for others as well. If a gambler is able to control his emotions, he can reduce his tendency to lose. The physical senses in humans are mostly controlled by emotions, so in every case one should cultivate the habit of calmness and self-control through slow and intellectual thinking without over-hasty decision-making.
It makes sense that he had a heart attack caused by his own shock, but on the other hand, everyone who gambles tends to hope that they can win, it's just that maybe the win they dreamed of before is smaller compared to the win that turned out to be bigger when they got it. Something like this will certainly surprise us, I myself might feel shocked because what happened exceeded my own expectations.
It's the same with defeat or loss, only I think that if someone experiences a very big loss, they should have realized beforehand that there is a big possibility that they will lose the money they allocated, whether the amount is large or small. I agree with what you said, we must be able to control ourselves including being able to stay calm, so we must be smart in considering something before doing it.

The real question here is.

What happened with the money?

The casino keeps the 4.2M or the family of the victim, or the police, or the gov?

In theory the family should keep the money but since it's a big amount, everyone will try to keep it, for sure the casino and the police will fight for it.

And this isn't normal, i don't think a big win like this could kill anyone, the gambler must have some health issues for this to happen, a healthy gambler will never suffer a heart attack.
I think winning such a huge amount is never a threat that we will end up with a heart attack. That can only happen if we have unstable heart condition but we still push into gambling activities that could put our heart at risk of malfunctioning. So most probably, the gambler who died, although given the fact that he was shocked with his winning amount, that leads to complicate his heart due to unable to balance his emotions, added also that he might be experiencing some other serious conditions that will affect immediately the function of his heart.

1. Do you stake to win an amount you're not emotionally ready to receive?
2. How much can come into your account at a spot that can cause you to collapse instantly
3. How can we prepare for cases where you suddenly win a jackpot that's huge and you know that your mind can't carry that amount of money?
~snip~
Honestly does anyone know how much money they are emotionally unable to afford to win? Because everyone gambles and hopes to win big even fantastic amounts in their minds.

Question number two will have the same answer as number one, because gamblers hope to win big and even when they have won a lot, they still hope to win even more, so there is no limit.

I am able to win huge and just need to prepare a further plan regarding the money whether to invest or something else

3. You need to calm down when you hit the jackpot and take a deep breath. Drink a glass of water will you to get your conscious minds will help you.
This kind of self-control is necessary, not too enthusiastic because you get the long-awaited jackpot.
If you can't control yourself and continue to play with the winnings, then the jackpot will be taken back by the casino.

The jackpot is a sign that you need to stop and rest to enjoy the winnings, not to keep placing bets or placing higher Bets.

Drink a little water, while relaxing and enjoying a plate of food to be calmer hahaha
