Budget: set it BEFORE you start gambling and stick to it.
Budget is usually set immediately you receive an income. At that time, the person is expected to allocate a percentage of the income to different expenses for a time frame. Your budget may be weekly or monthly. Have a percentage you use for gambling, stick to it.

Have a break from time to time, it is important to let your brain stop and consider.
Getting used to having breaks will allow you control the habit of gambling.

Avoid drugs / drink as much as possible, they will make you loose some control innevitably.
In other words, someone who already does drugs and drinks should be aware that they are more at the danger of loosing their self control.

Seek help if you feel you are no longer in control. Make a phone call to a friend or go out and speak with someone.
Speak with not just anyone but someone who understands your situation, and will not judge you or try to give self righteous answers.

Brief but powerful post. If any gambler abides by these few tips he would not be addicted to gambling. Most gambling addicts don't take breaks and don't have plans. They always want to chase their losses thereby losing control over their gambling life. Having a gambling plan will reduce the risk of using funds that would have been used for basic needs or investments to gamble.

Some gamblers feel that getting drunk will make them get over their losses. And sometimes they get drunk in the process of gambling which will make them lose concentration. Seeking help from experienced friends and families in the form of advice will be a good idea. Seeking medical or psychological support when necessary is also a good suggestion.

Learning self-control is something that everyone who wants to gamble needs to have so they don't eat up all the balance they have. Even though they have set limits on gambling, they could still deposit more money, especially if they lose, because gambling can make them tempted to play longer. And don't play gambling to make money because getting it won't be easy. Make gambling an entertainment, enjoy your time while you are playing, and stop before you run out of money.

One thing that I really stuck with is not bringing anything extra if I’m going to a physical casino, and not get close to my phone that has all the 2FAs on my accounts if I’m playing at home. I literally, on purpose, turn off that phone which has the 2FA to deter me from depositing anything extra if I feel like I can beat the casino with a losing streak. Also, the right mentality would surely keep you from doing dumb decisions, but it’s not something that can be learned in a day or two. You really have to master it and stick with it the whole way through.

Haha, good one!

Another thing to remember, as some have already mentioned, is to avoid chasing your losses. It's tempting to want to recoup what you've lost, but it can frequently result in more losses. Don't let the moment get the best of you and know when it's time to take a break. And, of course, the most important thing is to make sure to gamble within your means. Many of us had to learn this the hard way, unfortunately.

I myself have a fund limit for gambling and never exceed that limit, friend, even though in the amount of money that has become the limit, I usually deposit half of it first so it doesn't run out immediately when I'm losing.
Some of the suggestions and advice that you provide are actually quite useful and can reduce gamblers from losing more money if they lose, but unfortunately only some gamblers are aware of this.
Don't you also understand that most gamblers chase after winning and forget what could prevent them from losing big.

But at least we can provide an understanding to some of the gamblers who are here, friend, so they have self-awareness that gambling also needs something that can prevent them from experiencing big losses.

This is the hardest part. I was addicted in the past, but I fixed the problem myself. It's very embarrassing to ask for help from friends. I don't want them to judge me, and I'm just not the type of person who is open enough to share my personal problems. I think the best way to avoid getting addicted is to prevent it altogether. You know, they say 'prevention is better than cure.
A true friend that understand about life and matters can not judge you, but most friends are not just like that. I have been addicted before and I solved the problem myself by disciplining myself. I later realized that there is nothing good that is coming from betting all the time and losing all the time than winning. For it not to destroy my life, I have to start gambling in a better way. I even quit gambling for awhile that time. The best a gambling addict can do to himself is to realized that the bad sides of gambling is more than the good sides and how gambling can make their life be full of depression and losses.

The best answer is education, any person need to know his limit, money management and thinking the future. Although all people want to be rich and I agree with the statement if not all people can become rich, that's why there's a person can gamble $100 per week, someone can gamble $100,000 per week and someone can't gamble because he don't have any money anymore.
I have similar thinking like you, and with people like me and you going deep into gambling is almost impossible, but there are different kind of people around that have other state of mind and they are more prone to get addicted to gambling. It's normal thing since no one is the same but for them having someone around to guide them is a must.

well that's cool hehe... But you are right in mentioning that as gamblers we also need to take a break for awhile because our mind is also tired from the thing that we think we will win.
Because the more that we always lose, it's stressful for us while playing. And I like what you said to call a friend that you also trust of course that you know has sense to talk to especially in these situations.

I add as a suggestion about "budget", some sites allow you to set deposit limits. use them! these help to have a limit on your bets.
people who bet with crypto use always cold wallets to limits "cash" available.

limit as much as possible the figures you play when you realize you have "a problem" with the game.
ok to play for fun, no to play for money in such case.
Last but not least, NEVER try to recover from your losses. you will simply lose even more. Roll Eyes

A lot of times .. there are a lot more behind gambling addiction, that needs to be solved before "basic" things that you mentioned.. will work for those people.

People are very complex and there are some psychological factors that also needs attention, before you simply apply advice like this.

1. People might use gambling to distract them from other problems they have.
2. People might be more prone to addiction, than other people... so gambling is just one of those things that triggers them.
3. People might just be bored.... and should seek other activities that will take up their time.

It is things like this that contribute to gambling addiction and you have to address that, so that other advice would help them to stop gambling.

Go and visit the therapist when you discover you're betting out of control, friends might give you short term solution but to overcome your addictions, you have to go and see a therapist as they're the professionals and will help you better.

When you're betting too often, recheck yourself to make sure you're not betting more than you should as a form of revenge for your losses. Revenge bets are one of the reasons many betters lose money. You can't win when revenge is on your mind.

If you noticed you're addicted to gambling, just look for other addiction to replace the gambling addiction and they should be positive activities and not negative ones like drugs or drinking. You can join a book club to use your time for reading.

From my personal experience, sometimes when we have the intention to do what we have done as listed above, it is different when we are playing, because when we are playing it is difficult to control ourselves unless our money runs out, usually when the money runs out it will make us realize something that I should stop in the middle of a losing streak and not continue it.

Sometimes when we intend to have fun, there is a high feeling of curiosity that keeps pushing us to keep playing, that's why when people follow it, they become addicts, but it's true whatever you say, it's just difficult to do if it's not based on high intentions so you can apply it when playing.  Wink

Setting-up limitations such as the session funds and time will be great for a safer gambling session.
"Do not gamble what you cannot afford to lose"; Many people have uttered this phrase here, but it's still a good thing to follow!

I have never done drinking while gambling. I think that will be fun! I am confident that I'll still be able to have a disciplined mind even though I'm having some drinks while playing. Doing that, making sure that I'll not get wasted from the alcohol is a necessity.

Budget: set it BEFORE you start gambling and stick to it.

The bolded part seems to be the main problem for most gamblers. Setting up a budget before gambling is easy and most gamblers do it as well but most of the time gamblers fail to stick on their own limit.

Have a break from time to time, it is important to let your brain stop and consider.

I would say that it is better if we set our own gambling activity like once/twice a week or once/twice a month and for sure the above budget limit should also be applied. Combination between wise time and money management will be the best thing to do imo.

Avoid drugs / drink as much as possible, they will make you loose some control innevitably.

Drink is fine as long as it is not too much, as long as we are still able to control ourselves then it is fine to drink (alcohol) while gambling.

Seek help if you feel you are no longer in control. Make a phone call to a friend or go out and speak with someone.

Once a gambler is addicted, he/she does not realize that he/she is going too far. It would be better if we can avoid it from the beginning by asking help from someone we trust such as wife, girlfriend, or maybe brother/sister so they can always give a warning to us anytime we start our gambling.

Very very important, Like for me I don't use percentage... Like how some other gamblers use like 3 or 4 percent of their income, if my total monthly income is 10,000 and I allocate 4 percent of it to gambling it would amount to 400 dollars which I pretty huge, IMO.
What I normally do is that I just take a fixed amount like 50 Dollars and spend it on gambling and as soon as that money get exhausted I quit for that month.

If I should add anything to this list it would be, "be time conscious" although allocating money also plays a role here but aside that you should set a time limit for yourself, because most times when we're on the winning spree there's this urge for us to continue playing and also when we're losing there's also the urge for us to start chasing losses.
Just put a time limit and once your time is up just log out of your casino and focus on other part of your life that needs attention.

This is absolutely good advice that I have read for a long time now. Some gamblers are just bent on gambling so hard, making sure they win something before they stop, and some times they may not win anything, so they keep going. Even if they end up winning, they might have gambled off a lot of money and might not even win up to half of what they have lost. It's very necessary to make a budget and specify the amount that the person will gamble off, so that once they exhaust the money, they can stop gambling without minding if they won or not.

I don't know how others feel, but I think gambling is intuitive. Without those budgets, a gambler might not even realize it until they have gambled off a lot of money.

There are these street bets that I usually see people doing in my country. Some young guys on the street who gamble sometimes end up gambling with their phones; they can even go to the extent of gambling with anything they have on their body, which includes their clothes, trousers, shoes, or jewelry. This is no joke; one day a guy has to walk away from the street bet with only his boxers, which means he has gambled with everything he had on him.

I think people know right from wrong enough to know when they’re doing bad behavior. I believe it is greed that pushes people to bet amounts they know they shouldn’t and extend losing streaks. If you know you’re the kind of person that does this sort of behavior, be conscious of it and don’t put lots of money in places where you’re able to easily gamble it.
