Well that could get you to the moon when it comes to profit. You could expect that coin holdings to get more where in fact every year the crypto equivalency has relatively increasing. It may fall down but to think of that time that you are holding your tokens then probablyl you will get more profit as expected. Anyway this is not unusual since most of the since most of the crypto are increasing but, be careful of the crypto you are holding because it might fall down forever you will not be able to recover into it. But if you are holding some good crypto like ether or other leading crypto in the market then is your advantage.
For long term, the only altcoins that are going to survive are those which really have a real product, all the others are gonna be garbage if they did not provide a product yet.

It is very difficult to say whether it is worthwhile to hold such a long time because many projects only pretend to work and in fact they simply burn the collected money, that's all, so you need to be careful to buy coins and tokens of projects that can survive so long.
I really like the coin DAN (dannel) this coin has been able to influence the market coinmarketcap quickly and has an ever-increasing value. I recommend this new coin as a good option to invest

Go for EOS buddy as that has also a potential . I bought 1000 EOS when its just 5 usd last month now its 19 usd gotta hold for a long time still so I get a huge profit .

I do not understand how in the market you can think of crypto currency for such a long time - 1-2 years. Everything changes very quickly, I see no reason to hold any tokens at a time when you can invest in new, most promising projects that go out every week!
Everything is changing, but we must understand that in the future many existing projects will not exist. Remain really those projects that will have an excellent product implementation. It seems to me that NEM has already exhausted its potential, this coin will not grow much, until the end of 2018 it will take x2, under the best situation.
The best altcoins to hold for some years are Ripple and Ethereum. No news here of course. It is better to start buying this coins. This is good time to purchase undervalued coins. They will rise. All know about it.

Hi! I think the best choice would be new blockchain tokens. They can give the maximum profit in the long term. I am not interested in other projects.

If you will hold your coins for 2-3years, i suggest to you to hold bitcoin, ethereum, and ripple because this 3 coins is for long term investment, or this coins is good for holding in years. I think 3 years is not enough for Ripple, because ripple is a good coin but low chance to pump, so i think 3 years is not enough.
I suggest waves coin is good for you , because this coin is for long term. The price of waves as of now is less than 10 dollars and for sure if you buy waves coin and after 2 to 3 years possible the price of this coin become hundreds dollars price so if that happen you will earn a lot of profit. You can buy also komodo, taas qtum this coin also is good for long term. I think holding a altcoin for 2-3 years theres possibility can have much profit or maybe it will become tripled to your money or much higher than that. But choose altcoin that have potential to grow, so you can sure about you're profits
You should always do complete analysis and research before investing in any coin. If you would have invested in bitcoin or ethereum in beginning, and if you would still hold them, then you would have got tremendous returns. So if invest in strong coin and hold them for a good time, you may get good returns. Altcoin market is unstable, so it's hard to predict what will happen in 2-3 years with alts. This is a good strategy for those who are willing to spend their life saving for altcoin investment. I would suggest that you go to major alt coins like ETH. It is the safest alt for long term investment because it its dependent on bitcoin so as other altcoins. I would never risk my money to an ICO or coin that was just starting. I have some investments in Ethereum and Litecoin. I always like keeping most of my investments for long term because projects need time to show progress
