Long term investments could save you and even cover the losses, but you need to understand the market and avoid hodling in any cost, because it is the most unreliable strategy, which works extremely rare. However, if you have enough money, think about investing XRP or ETH.

There are several great projects, which are in the ICO stage right now, so you still can get several drinks for you and for pretty girls. Of couse, finding the right option for investment may take time, but it is totally worth it!

I think in cryptocurrency investment there is no late about it as soon as we are willing to invest it in our own capability of investing it. Because cryptocurrency is unpredictable and no one knows what really be happen with it in a long run. Getting started by now is not too late because crypto is unpredictable and everyone are always have risk in investing it.
