@bigslimvdub. That is a better update than your last state of Aeon. It is also very good to see that you understand the issue and that you have responded well.

Also, Asic resistance is not unsuccesful only to cryptonote coins, but to all cryptocoins.

Eh, I tend to agree with you, but overall that is still tbd - it seems to be working out ok for ETH and XRP at the moment...

Ethereum and Ripple? You are either serious because you do not know anything or bad in being sarcastic hehehe. However, jwinterm knows everything there is in the cryptospace. It might also either be a bad joke or a hacked account.

Can anyone ask jwinterm in Reddit or Github if he made that reply?

It's really me. Ethereum has allowed GPUs to remain on their network while maintaining the second highest marketcap and emitting quite a lot of coins. The ASICs that have come along are only 2-8x more efficient in terms of power, from what I understand. They're also planning to switch to ProgPOW which will buy them some more time of even smaller efficiency gains by ASICs in the near term, afaik, ahead of their switch to PoS.

Ripple is #3 by valuation/marketcap, whatever you think of that metric, it's quite commonly used, and I'd say they're doing quite well at resisting ASICs.

I don't really think ASIC resistance is a worthwhile endeavor, in terms of the mental and emotional resources it requires as well as the generally added complexity it brings, but that isn't the same thing as saying that ASIC resistance is always unsuccessful.

I am interested to see how randomX works for monero and argon works for Tuetlecoin. Time will tell. Cat and mouse it is.

I believe Aeon is on the right path. It takes time for adoption but the last month I believe we have picked up some additional eyes that are staying in the background. Only time will tell.

@esternity. Agreed that we might be looking at the end of the bear market, however, the Binance chairman's tweet does not do any good for Aeon. He is implying that there is great value held in USDT that is ready to pump some cryptocoins. However, Aeon has no USDT market.

i am not sure what he means by "pseudo-fiat";
it may be only cash-equivalents of all sorts.

Pseudofiat are clearly stablecoins like USDT and like the tokens that Circle has issued which are backed by US dollars. The problem is USDT. It might not be backed 1 for 1 by US dollars anymore. I reckon they might be printed at will and be used to pump the new cryptospace bull.

we have to realize that monero is still a small currency in term of putative mass adoption:
with relatively low number of daily transactions:
4,500 per day, 188 per hour.

https://bitinfocharts.com/monero/

technically good or excellent, but "elitist".

here at aeon we have to be open to this fact, banks are presently adapting themselves, as being threatened in survival.

Updates to AFS proposals:
https://link.medium.com/pYJuBccYBV

Aeon is now on Delta Direct app for following crypto currencies:
https://link.medium.com/82IJZeoYBV

Aeon full core CLI binaries out for android. Tested working:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Aeon/comments/b8wp2c/full_aeon_core_on_android_update/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app

And yes state of Aeon will have k12 section now that that was decided (proposed now and implemented) and moneros decisions are made for RandomX. The future of cryptocurrency is now. Aeon will take the lead with this change!

xmr has gained 50 percent on the lows.
privacy coins could be again researched ?

You will not be addressing the issue of the whole reason why Aeon is proposed to switch to Kangaroo12 proof of work?

@smooth. Agreed! It has a cool name. Is it made in Australia hehehe?

switch to KangarooTwelve proof of work

https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/pull/108

My comment on reddit:

The thinking behind this is discussed elsewhere in the many ASIC-resistant vs. ASIC-friendly discussions but in general we want to stabilize this portion of the protocol so there is not a need for mining-economics-driven forks, including dangerous emergency forks, nor centralized determination of how and when to change the PoW. We fully expect that:

* There will be an arms race through various mining technologies and, at times, for a time, there may be a dominant player.
* Given the small size of AEON (as well as any other coins using keccak variants) it may be a while before there are any actual ASICs, much less a competitive market for them.
* Eventually the simplicity and hardware-friendliness of Keccak-based hashes means that barriers to creating ASICs will be low and the market will become competitive as quickly as possible

Meanwhile, we can all let miners be miners (using whatever approaches they choose to take to drive the hash rate over time to its highest and most secure equilibrium), and focus our efforts on building other aspects of the AEON protocol, implementation, and ecosystem.
