it has been told that aeon is partially integrated in cakewallet (on ios version)
wouldn't be useful to achieve it on other systems ?

zmq_pub.cpp/h which doesn't exist in aeon yet

Okay makes sense there is a significant gap there.

Currently the P2Pool in monero has less than 3% of the total hashrate - the network is still dominated by large pools. I don't see much value in enabling P2Pool for aeon right now when the adoption is so low. I imagine the usage of it to be very low unless aeon mining becomes extremely popular.

I think it's kind of valuable to have in place as a "break glass" option even if not currently heavily used. Centralized pools are a liability, perhaps not an urgent one for any coin though. Atomic swaps are similar BTW. I suspect hardly used (and may never be) but big increase in robustness for that option to be there.

See look I even made a dinky logo for you.  Cool https://imgur.com/gXyZRyA

rebranding may be a good idea, to be discussed.

In a PM between me and dnaleor he suggest Litenote as a new name for AEON, I think it sounds much better and considering the "lite" new POW it could be a strategic marketing move.

It's indeed something I thought about, let me explain it a bit more:

AEON wants to have a more "lightweight" approach with pruning, lighter mining algorithm, running nodes on smartphones, etc.

Furthermore, I see AEON as "the little brother" of XMR. It's possible that AEON can become an important factor in testing new features that can eventually be transferred to XMR. And there is even more, smooth is a dev of both coins.
If we use the 'lite' brand, we ride on the notion of litecoin being "the silvers to bitcoin's gold". If we adopt this new name, the coin would be immediately associated with being "the silver to cryptonote/XMR gold"

This positions the coin in the right place imho. So the 'lite' brand has 2 meanings: 'lightweight' and 'silver'.
There is a new dev team now, so rebranding AEON to Litenote (XLN) might be a good idea.

It's just an idea, don't know what others think about it.

Litenote: What a fantastic name. Bravo goodsir!  Cheesy

You see? The shirt matches the pants. What do I mean by the shirt matches the pants? Look at Aeon, it is a name for a long slow epoch. Not a great name for a light quick monetary system.. Sounds more like a good name for retirement invesment company. You got to have the name match the brand. Aeon is a meaningless name and accomplishes nothing in terms of marketing. Litenote captures the spirit and mission of the project, thats why the shirt matches the pants.

Speaking of mining, is anybody looking at porting the Monero p2pool to aeon? It would likely work even better here given the verification-friendly PoW, lower barrier to running a node, etc.

Interesting, I haven't been following those recent developments.

Unfortunately, it seems to use some relatively recent functionality related to ZMQ and I think porting the changes to the aeon code (which is far behind monero) is rather difficult.

https://github.com/SChernykh/monero/commit/dfee15eee18a97be5a8fb9822527f98ebd1b33e9

Hmm, that didn't look so complicated, it's adding a few requests, right?

Are we missing ZMQ altogether or something?

First of all, I'm not knowledgeable about networking protocols including ZMQ. The aeon codebase currently has zmq_server.cpp/h, so I think there is some kind of ZMQ functionality, but the above monero code makes changes to zmq_pub.cpp/h which doesn't exist in aeon yet. If we were to adopt the code, we'd first need to merge any relevant upstream patches that eventually introduce zmq_pub.cpp/h. I imagine there will be lots of merge conflicts while cherry picking those commits out of order compared to monero.

Currently the P2Pool in monero has less than 3% of the total hashrate - the network is still dominated by large pools. I don't see much value in enabling P2Pool for aeon right now when the adoption is so low. I imagine the usage of it to be very low unless aeon mining becomes extremely popular.

from that discussions on reddit r/Aeon, stoffu and smooth have realized a well functioning blockchain.

a pity that it is not recognized sufficiently by people, or after marketing.

Aeon is not a bad coin so why worry? It is natural evolution for any organization. Hell even the US of A had to change the flag a few times before it stuck. You don't always get everything right the first time. Good branding can help attract more people to using aeon and building the aeon economy. Stoffu and smooth are programmers and of course they think aeon is a good coin because they helped developed it but not everyone can understand why Aeon is technically a good coin. If they see good branding they might say "oh, what is this coin, I have never heard of Aeon?" Then they can learn more about the history and culture of aeon and maybe they will stay around for awhile. Building a decentralized peer-to-peer network is not just about writing good code. The stubbornness of this community towards branding is weird and cult-like. You can release new versions of the code every year, but never improve the branding? In this time nothing seems more important than attracting more users to the network. The code is practically in a future proof state. Why not lend a little bit of time to improving some of the other ignored aspects of the peer-to-peer network? Anyways, just some thoughts on the matter, thanks for reading.

Haven't heard of anyone mining these days on Aeon but the hashrate keeps going up. Was thinking of getting a fpga but they are all sold out.

I merged one but the later ones looked to still have some ongoing discussion. I will continue to monitor them and merge when there is consensus.

soon 3 months without news of smooth, in this period of trouble for fluffy.

No issues. Somewhat busy but otherwise fine.

good news!
please remain safe.
