jakiman is back!
Did anyone calculate the difference in power consumption between scrypt jane and scrypt?

My cards run a lot less hot, it must be a drastic change in power consumption.

My 8 x 280x rig at the wall:
LTC = 2300W
UTC = 2000W
HVC = 1400W

More or less, I believe the profitability of altcoins is the same.  Top profitable coins wouldn't last on that position a day or two.  Auto Switch Multi-pools will jump into the most profitable coin with their high hashes and dump immediately, bringing down the price, increasing the difficulty, and going next to the other most profitable coin.  I think this is the reason for the altcoin slump and of course the introduction of SCRYPT ASIC miner in the market.  After mining some new coins, I still end up mining UTC.  Can't beat the lower heat and electricity specially during this time of the year when it's getting freaking hot.  I could literally feel the difference in heat.  I think the lifespan of my RIGs will be longer mining this coin.  And of course, the potential increase of the price is a plus.

Is Nitro1 down for maintenance? The hashrate shift seems to have balanced things out quite a bit. Still 2 primary pools, but none with more than 50%.

I noticed that Nitro was down when I saw leetpool hit 200Mhs... they are back again.

Arrrrgggghhhh, can't get my BTC out of cryptorush to buy UTC on Cryptsy......bugger :p

Cryptorush has been hacked or something. There is much talk about it, but I do not understand what exactly happened. Too many rumors but no solid facts.

The reason why so many miners stay at Nitro 1 can be also the possibility of getting full 50 UTC block reward. This is not happening at other pools (at least not so often).

happened to me 3 times.  once at leet, rest at nitro 1. been mining at nitro 2 since it opened and not a single '50' block...

Stuhlman, did you employ stage 2 of nitro 2 promo yet? I may have missed hearing about it as I was away for a few days.

There is another promo coming, but I really had a busy two weeks. I just had some sleep after staying up for almost 36 hours straight.
I am 43 years old, and not in my teens. I have discovered what being older means for the first time this weekend, as I crashed hard last night.
But now I am back and rested. I might even grab a case of Red Bull this week although I don't believe in that stuff.

good to hear you got some sleep. I can relate. coffee just doesn't work after a while... lol, setting up my miners taught me that lesson as well. about 36 hours straight of finding settings because my gpu's aren't 100% efficient and/or compatible with most .bat i see posted but i do get higher stats than most other same ''species'' cards.  are you also waiting for the next n-factor in a few days?

Btw, other pools do have ways of attracting miners of Nitro 1, just takes some UTC and ingenuity, not enough from what we've seen. minor pools need to adopt: ''takes UTC to make UTC'' and ''it's a dog eat dog world''.

1 example: 0% fee. pay miners twice the usual amount for a 1 week promo period and pay block finder of 10 utc. Yes it's expensive, but with risk comes reward. Announce and publicize the crap out of it. any utc spent by poolowner will come back if they have faith in their pool, marketing. This only works for poolowners who have some UTC to back their business.

edit: Bottom line: Minor pools have to overcome the attractiveness of a possible 50 utc block reward AND the dissuasive orphans to get more miners.

Stuhlman, you're a businessman and there is no need to justify your actions
actually, you're doing wrong to yourself doing that

we're lots of griefers because of the centralized mining power but as was already tried nothing can change this situation
POS was invented to prevent this kind of issues but it wasn't used correctly in this coin, it is an advertised feature so people buy more coins...

fastcoin had the same idea of speed of transfers as well but has long since died..

Dead?
Now it looks like this
Tragedy

Draw lessons from the experience,
Successful tend to fail!
Is it really?it was disappointing.

As long as orphans on other pools are higher than the fee on Nitro then of course people will continue to mine there instead of elsewhere. I'm mining at Greekpool where orphans were 15% last month, 13% last week.  Cry
I don't know who's responsibility it is, but balls to both the miners on Nitro and the pool Nitro  Shocked  Grin You gits! LoL

exactly, if you mine on other pools 15~30% of your coins get orphaned and sent to a miner on nitro instead because nitro will outvote you .
It's not the dev's /pool operators fault that everyone went there, but there should of been more intervention earlier on to prevent this , there just wasnt good communication between pool operators devs and miners in the early stages , which led to the formation of this vicious cycle where no one wants to spread their hash out because they dont want to be the bagholder for all the orphans.
Nitro 2 was a success in the sense that it decreased orphans for other pools, but it was too little too late, as the pools simply died due to the high volume of orphans (the problem wasn't addressed fast enough).

Best thing to do, would be to jack the fees on nitro up 15% and destroy the difference.
So nitro keeps 2~3% ->+ destroys the coins mined from the other 12%.
It would force a hard-reboot of the hash and stabilize the price of the coin.
Or the devs could lower the block reward. by 20%.
BUT o/c thats a crazy solution.
IMO the inflation rate for UTC is a LITTLE HIGH, not too too high, but it could drop 10~20% and I think the coin would be healthier for it.
o/c its going to be hard for any coin to do well in the current environment where bitcoin seems to want to drop to 300$.

Anyway we are pretty much at the lows for the coin, at this price there isn't much incentive to sell, other coins out there are much more profitable to mine and drump right now.
Right now coins that are more profitable to mine and dump:
MegaCoin Spain Coin Piggy Coin ExeCoin BitGem Neocoin FoXcon Etc... UTC is pretty much floating above break even.
Only reason to mine UTC right now is if you think it will go up and you are holding, if you are mining utc to dump at this price level, you are pretty much lazy to do the math, even doge is more profitable right now and that coin you could easily dump because it has volume trade.

Price isn't everything, but no one wants to see a coin they like go to 1cent I genuinely like this coin, and want it to do well...... and I am usually for free market and all, but this coin could use a little forward guidance.

It's a discussion that needs to be had.

Also, I think it would be a cool idea, if the developer started an IRC chat channel on freenode or quakenet or something, somewhere , where the community can actively:
1) communicate
2) vote, take polls etc..... vote for changes some form of democratic control over the coin by its users
3) share ideas live in a raw unfiltered way to allow for more ideas

Without communication nothing can be achieved, forums are nice..... and all but they are slow.

In the near future there will be a few coins that will stand to beat the slaughter of ASICS and very few coins will be there to stand up.
I believe UTC is one of those coins.

+1 on that.
