Good common sense slightly aged article here, that Benjamin Franklin would say is very American.
Sadly, impossible in America of today.
What has value as a concept, accomplished, if it is a ruined concept/phoneme? How can anything be 'valuable' in this world of debt? Only feeding people, will matter in 1776 or 2076, imo.

Is there one city council in this land, who loveth books and supporteth the child who loveth books?
One things for sure: You don't need to be able to read or think, to vote.
And yet voters cannot trump readers, except by bullets when the intellectuals get purged, hehe, well not in my country but in all other countries up to now, book readers are the first to die. Sad but true.
Anyway, this post is not about tech, it's just something I felt the spirit of Ben Franklin wishes to shame. He hates city councils that hate book loving children, I bet.

Haha here is a paper called "All About the Benjamins" but I don't know if the names on it are people who know anything at all about tech, or this thread.

"Patches" are what they associate with "precaution" they say you patch, as a pre-caution --BUT, shouldn't it be not pre-caution but CAUTION, if you are constantly getting crapware from your brand names, and reuqiring 10000 patches?

Brands that release buggy crapware at retail prices and patch in the field, have ruined IT pretty much.
So these scientists kinda obliquely suggest a sublime point that maybe Benjamin the coder is lying to us and there is some secret bug in the Ben code. I would say this: Benjamins are maybe 50% off their reasonable value, or maybe 300% off their peak value (where the main dumper acted) --But most importantly I would respond with a question:
How much is a bottle of water worth, when Nestle(tm) sucks your country and then sells you your water back?
And how much is a cup of water worth when Detroit uses the right to water, to call in UN troops, as if Water has ever been protected by any government or politicians or army?
No my friends, the value of a Benjamin is no more than the water I have stored and which I live near. Value is determined when supply is restricted. And a worldwide restriction of all supplies, seems in the offing.
So, mine Benjamins and store water and protect water with me. Protect the river you live near, do not litter and smack anyone you see dumping oil in it or gross stuff like that.

I just wanted to point out this article whiuch connects to the idiocy of the ChainedIn crowd, and their sheer stupidity and unfitness for making IT decisions.
I am an IT tech, and I rarely if once, saw an executive who was worth a damn when it came to tech. Even the ones who thought they were cool on their Blackberries and stuff, they are all just "bleeding edge" dumbasses, if you ask me.
I laugh at executives and their dumb ways. Hehe, this article points out that they are easy sells, and that means they buy crap they know nothing about. Does that sound like the right way to run a world?
No, I would say that since actors and cops have unions, well then the IT workers should have had a guild, inside the USA. But no, it was not to be so, and now we have weeds sewn everywhere, and the Android, god help us all, is what people want to use??
Anyway, this article is so cute how they try to sell the idea the upper management can do anything except fail. I have not once met any upper manager or moneybags person who impressed me. Not once in 15 years of IT labor. ...Okay well once.

Anyway, being an IT worker who has observed the complete gutting of my industry via the very brands we supported, I find this brand name stock company to be a moste foul creation which Benjamin Franklin would deem fit for the wastebin.
Thank God I am not on LinkedIn, its more like ChainedIn. But, it would be nice to reflect my ego in some graphic of how many cool people I've known at companies I've worked at. But frankly, that picture is my resume. And frankly, the companies on my resume don't know s**t about cryptocoin nor do any corporate body have a soul, and so each human is MORE important than even the largest corporate concern.

As a career troubleshooter I would ask you to allow it a full day on your friends "no firewall" machine
Also to copy my pasted config files and place them in the right folder.
The wallet works fine, we have 9 connections generally, so it's on your end. Keep us posted as to what you try! I suspect your config files are off.
edit
Simple logic asks to have your friend try the wallet on his machine. That will tell you if it ALSO fails the same conditional test, then suggesting it's probably your config files on both machines that have wrong info.

My friend: I cannot make it work behind your firewall. Also I don't have experience running the daemon and I am just a regular user like any other person. Sounds complicated on your end!

Going from there I can help you, because IP is essentially free! But yes, if you run a local firewall you'll want to allow the Ben connection.

It takes days to sync. If you tried the nodes above, you should be fine, just let it sit, blocks are slow we need miners more than anything.

As for the question about the Benjamins wallet, the selection "Allow port selection via UPnP" is available and seems to work fine. But I am not sure off hand how to know which port it's running on.
But there is a lot of work to do so I appreciate all who are holding Benjamins long, and trying to mine. Ask questions as this is the goal, to get new people up and running on SHA-256 gear like Ants and such, and mine with us.
Should we have a conference call or something? I will just sit in the background and say little unless you ask me to. We could use gotomeeting.

Almost exactly one year ago, a hybrid comprising characteristics of a rogue AV and ransomware (the lockscreen type, not a file-encryptor) was discovered, calling itself Android Defender, as reported by Symantec. It had all the typical traits of a fake AV and all the typical traits of a lockscreen ransomware – in that it was not actually that trivial to get rid of when a user was not protected by a mobile antivirus, they had to disable it by booting their device into Safe mode. ESET detects it as Android/FakeAV. And a less aggressive Android Defender without the lockscreen functionality was analyzed by Sophos in May 2013.
Last month the blog Malware don’t need Coffee reported on a police ransomware for Android by the Reveton team. Again, this was an evolutionary migration of a malware type very prevalent in the recent years from Windows to the Android platform. Although some connection to Cryptolocker (one of many file-encrypting trojans, which ESET detects as the Win32/Filecoder family, that received an overwhelming amount of media attention and that I have written about here and here) was suggested by Kaspersky, the malware, detected by ESET as Android/Koler was neither Cryptolocker, nor did it encrypt any files on the infected device.
