And what exactly is wrong with me bitching about centralization wherever it rears its ugly head?

::sigh:: nothing.

Though I believe you are confusing the position enjoyed by a superior competitor in the free market with centralization.

A 70% market share in SHA256 ASICS and also have an interest in pools contributing to almost 50% of the hash rate for BTC and 90% for BCH? Oh no, that's not centralized at all.  I suppose by your definition, De Beers was only a "superior competitor" in the free market of diamonds, until recently.

Oh and as a side note: This DragonMint project does look promising. However, if it really appears as though it's going to cut in on Jihan Wu's turf, do you really think that Jihan is just going to sit idly by and let it happen? I'm sure Jihan will make every attempt to get his tentacles wrapped around that project.

jbear hasn't got back to our point yet? it was so good tho

I can't really see what there is to respond to.
- I know nothing about the diamond industry
- You seem to know nothing about the free market
- You seem to engage in conspiratorial flights of fancy
I think we've each made our positions clear. What's left to say?

As mentioned in the OP, Bitcoin Gold is a hard-fork of Bitcoin, so my question is "Why Bitcoin Gold has different algorithm with Bitcoin (the Original one)? The algorithm of Bitcoin Gold is Equihash. All of your explanations will be appreciated.

there are no asics yet for equihash

I'm looking to hedge BTG. I'd like to short, but there's no exchange that offers margin or futures on btg.

If anyone out there is interested in loaning me 2-3BTC worth of BTG, please contact me. I can post 150-200% collateral (BTC) to a respected escrow of bitcointalk we can agree on.

what is best exchange for bitcoin gold?

I sold them at Bittrex.

Lots of people called Bitcoin Gold is a scam one. Why? Are there another Bitcoin Gold?

It's not really a scam. However, there appears to be a good deal of actual scams that are exploiting this coin. The latest example is someone redirecting the download links so people can download a very special wallet. Thank god this was caught after only a couple of days.

The main one's calling it that are the Bcash supporters maybe they see it as a huge threat to their claimed supremacy but a large percentage if bitcoin users are in support

Thanks for the compliment.  Smiley My argument does use an analogy though, so I am sure it is fallacious in some way. (After all, in the 80s, De Beers controlled 90% of the diamond market. So they are an extreme example.) But hey, can't be perfect.

Hello Folks,

As you may have noticed, the source code for the Bitcoin Gold wallet is only available as .zip or .tar.gz file on their Github page.  I don't like that style and I have therefore unpacked all that and put it back onto Github in a more usable format.  You may see it at https://github.com/bostontrader/bitcoin-gold

Does anybody know if there's a publicly visible official edition of this?  Does anybody have any assurance the public binaries have anything to do with the putative source code?

I also have a collection of several docker files for building a handful of crypto coin wallets, including the above BTG wallet, at https://github.com/bostontrader/crypto-docker.  Using this, you can run the wallet in a docker container and view the output using VNC Viewer.

Please be reminded that there are lots of scammers playing games with these wallets, so please inspect my offering carefully.  I have posted the source code as I found it.  If there is evil lurking within, it didn't come from me.

Enjoy!

And how is this any different from the official source code from gitgub?  https://github.com/BTCGPU/BTCGPU

SCAM PART 2

https://bitcoingold.org/critical-warning-nov-26/

Code:
CRITICAL WARNING

Nov 26, 2017 | Uncategorized
Sunday, November 26, 2017, 01:00, UTC

Please be aware that for approximately 36 hours, a link on our Download page and the file downloads on our Github release page have been serving a suspicious file of unknown origin.

Until we know otherwise, all users should presume this file was created with malicious intent – to steal cryptocurrencies and/or user information. The file does not trigger antivirus / anti-malware software, but do not presume the file is safe.

Any user who verified the SHA-256 checksum of the download against the checksum listed on our Download pages is already aware the file is not authentic and should not have used the file, but nobody should assume that all users take this important step.

Anyone who downloaded the Windows Wallet file between November 24, 2017, 13:11, UTC and November 25, 2017, 22:30, UTC should not use the file in any way. If the file was used, the computer on which it was used should be addressed with extreme caution; the file should be deleted, the machine should be thoroughly checked for malware and viruses (or wiped clean), and any cryptocurrencies with wallets accessible on that machine should be moved to new wallet addresses immediately.

That is really strange to know but luckily I'm using Coinomi wallet and don't trust on unknown people but this could put risk a lot of people who download this wallet during this phase. Anyway thanks for sharing this into official thread.

Thank goodness that I own a Trezor. I wasn't interested in running my own full node and didn't need to find ways to claim my BTG that could compromise my seed or private keys. At least I am hoping there isn't some other vulnerability with Trezor that I am unaware of.

What happened with the Windows installer?

I see the warning on the website.

Is the one currently displayed safe to use?

Was the website or GitHub hacked?

The link to the windows installer in the OP points to a download with the wrong checksum:

This is the link: http://1ink.cc/g9Ia beware.

The checksum returned is: 4e4249f68730a2f7a7210a730de21a79b646c8895622dda4e18d6a4b6f50d992

However the one currently on GitHub at https://github.com/BTCGPU/BTCGPU/releases/tag/0.15.0.1

Returns the correct one: 53e01dd7366e87fb920645b29541f8487f6f9eec233cbb43032c60c0398fc9fa

So should we assume the OP has also been hacked?

BEWARE GUYS, MAKE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK WHAT YOU DOWNLOAD BEFORE YOU RUN ANY SOFTWARE!!!

I was really trying to start to root for this project. Are we even certain the OP is directly linked with the dev team? The posts seemed to indicate that he was. How many of these incidents is the community willing to bear?  Roll Eyes

The OP has only made 2 posts since October 18 it does look a bit fishy.

Last active November 16:

It could be an older version of the installer, so can't be 100% sure as I didn't download it when it was first made available.
If anyone has the previous (official) installer and can run a checksum to confirm it's the same as I mentioned above:

4e4249f68730a2f7a7210a730de21a79b646c8895622dda4e18d6a4b6f50d992

That could clear things up for the OP. I'd expect the OP to be a bit more active.
