One of my biggest mistakes was using only 1 method for any type of data. Simply because it works best with certain data. In other words, I only did an experiment at the beginning of the project. After finding the best method, I keep on using it even after the data grow larger and larger.

With discrete random variables, you can ask questions about absolute probabilities, like whats the probability that I get a 4 in the next roll? Or, if your opponent rolls the die, and gets a 3 and its your turn to attack, you might wonder whats the probability of getting a value higher than 3?

Just in case any of you here expect a refund from Altilly. If you don't have all their deposit confirmation emails, they give you nothing. That's a scam.

Can someone point out a resource that explains the benefit of 'sidechains', as implemented by Blockpool?

We're hoping to get our sidechain litepaper out this or next week, but in a nutshell... Through a combination of smart contracts, node plugins and wallet plugins, Blockpool delegates will be able to opt-in to forge for other chains using the same core code in parallel with BPL Core for additional rewards above those received for processing BPL Core. The mechanism we've designed will increase demand for the BPL token while providing further incentive for individuals to run a Core node, even if they do not have enough voting stake to qualify for Core rewards. This should have many benefits to our core chain including greater decentralization and stability.

Additionally, the way we're implementing sidechains will make blockchain very accessible-- as a new chain does not need new code or its own independent network as long as the rewards defined by the sidechain are enough to motivate our BPL Core delegates to forge for them.

One thing to note is that Blockpool sidechains will not operate as BTC sidechains have. This is new and different as far as we know.

All answers provided here are bound to draw more questions, so I hope you will have some patience as we document everything in the litepaper.

Also, is Blockpool traded anywhere at the moment? Can't find it even on altilly.
Nevermind, found it: https://www.altilly.com/market/BPL_BTC

Happy to say that the Blockpool Core chain has been successfully deployed. It's faster, more stable and secure.

Sidechain and smart contract development has begun to be complete in September.

Its a bright new day for Blockpool!  https://www.blockpool.io/blogs/post/Presenting-Blockpool-Core

Good to hear something from an old coin. I lose track of this project since some of my tokens were still in cryptopia. Is there a list of sidechains that is to be developed?
Price off this token weren't very attractive even before this smartcontract development, wish to see things work out this time and web wallet not affected.

As of now, Audiocoin (ADC) will most likely be the first sidechain. If you're not familiar with it, ADC is a mature chain that Blockpool has long planned to convert to DPoS as a Blockpool Core sidechain. There is a second sidechain project in the works, but only in initial planning so I am not able to provide details yet.

All efforts at this time are focused on developing the BPL Core to allow two different types of sidechains. Once this work is complete, Blockpool will add sidechains as a product offering for b2b clients, so there may be many more to come.

Sidechain forging will be done by our existing delegate pool for additional rewards above those they receive for processing the Core chain. This will provide further incentive to operate nodes-- strengthening the Blockpool Core network through greater decentralization and number of nodes. This is also supported by the recent upgrade which makes it very easy to install and manage a BPL Core node.

We are always eager to bring new delegates online so if you are interested in participating, here's how: https://www.blockpool.io/blogs/post/blockpool-core-deployment-delegate-guide (this post focuses on migrating a v1 node to the Core network, but is equally applicable to new delegates). If you have any questions or run into trouble, there is always help on Discord at http://discord.blockpool.io.

There have been lots of changes at Blockpool. Some of you know that we've had BPL Core in testnet for a few weeks now. We're very happy to say that testing is complete and we will roll Core to mainnet next weekend.

Other development is on the horizon and new exchanges in the cards. Details here: https://www.blockpool.io/blogs/post/upcoming-blockpool-core-roadmap

After a couple of weeks without an exchange due to Cryptopia being hacked, BPL is now trading at Altilly.

In a surprise move, Altilly (www.altilly.com) contacted us yesterday to inform us that BPL trading is now live on their platform (it was scheduled for the first week of March). They also posted an announcement on their twitter https://twitter.com/altillycom/status/1097104317985800192. The Blockpool team would like to express their sincere appreciation for Altilly and the Altilly dev team for getting this done, and ahead of schedule.

So, now the the network issues are (mostly) resolved, head on over to Altilly, create an account, and let's do some trading to show our appreciation for their efforts!

Blockpool Network Update

We've recently discovered some critical issues with vote and block validation in the current code base, which are most likely responsible for the network outage we experienced a few weeks ago. Furthermore, the Blockpool code base makes extensive use of floating point values and arithmetic.

Resolving these issues requires a hard fork of the BPL network, meaning that every node - be it a relay or forging node - must update to the new version of the Blockpool code base.

The BPL blockchain must be rolled back to the latest good height and forging will resume from that point onward. The estimated number of blocks to be rolled back is roughly 200k. All transactions included in these blocks will be replayed on the network and all forging rewards will be reimbursed in full by Blockpool. This means that no-one loses any BPL with this rollback.

This rollback will initially happen with a few forging nodes on an isolated network using the updated code. Once the replay process of the transactions is completed and validated, a snapshot will be provided to the community.

Fixed Rewards

Delegates will be happy to hear that in addition to the fix above, we will be introducing fixed rewards. Delegates will soon receive a fixed reward of 5 BPL for each newly forged block. This temporary change will improve the profitability of running a BPL node, attract more delegates to the BPL ecosystem, and foster a more competitive and healthier network.

Delegates are asked to closely follow our communication in Discord for a detailed schedule of necessary steps, such as shutting down, updating or restarting your nodes. This is in the works and will be made available as soon as possible.

BLOCKPOOL, together with the University of Manchester, UNSEEN, The Hartree Centre, and CDD — a leading compliance and due diligence technology firm — have proposed The Blockchain and the UK Modern Slavery Act (BC4MSA), whose goal is to develop a blockchain system capable of mapping forced labour intelligence nationally and internationally.

While slavery was largely abolished in the 19th century, modern day slavery is still is an unfortunate reality throughout the world. According to the International Labor Organization and Global Slavery Index:

“An estimated 40.3 million men, women, and children were victims of modern slavery on any given day in 2016. Of these, 24.9 million people were in forced labour and 15.4 million people were living in a forced marriage. Women and girls are vastly over-represented, making up 71 percent of victims. Modern slavery is most prevalent in Africa, followed by the Asia and the Pacific region.”(1)

Many of these people are working under forced labor conditions on fishing boats, construction sites, farms, in factories, or in the sex industry. The products made under forced labor conditions can often end up in commercial channels selling anything from textiles and electronic devices, to groceries.(2)

An investigative report by UK’s Sky News showed children as young as 4 years old mining for cobalt with bare hands and feet for a meagre ~10 cent daily wage in the Congo.(3) Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Company is the world’s largest buyer of so called “artisanal” cobalt from the Congo. Until very recently, Apple and Samsung purchased Zhejiang Huayou’s cobalt to manufacture batteries that go into smartphones, computers, and other consumer gadgets.(4)

Blockchain technology makes BC4MSA a compelling solution for a number of reasons. Firstly, it enables a trustless system where the integrity and availability of the network is not reliant on any single party. Secondly, the light-weight nature of blockchain technology enables efficient information sharing, minimizing investment and maintenance costs in the long-run. Lastly, because the data is encrypted using multi-signature technology, there is a lower risk of data breaches and confidentiality issues as compared with centralized databases.(5)

BC4MSA is designed as a secure data provenance solution that tracks forced labor incidents as ‘transactions’ on a blockchain. These transactions store information about where and when a labor violation occurred, who was involved, and the type of violation. This data would then be verified by a UK-based NGO (ex: Unicef, Save the Children) or a welfare support officer, and then escalated to a criminal case with law enforcement. Forced labor incidents could also be shared between welfare support teams and investigative units in different countries to catch offenders red-handed throughout the world.
