The riser doesn't affect hash rate according to what I have heard

not sure what you heard, but cudaminer is still using quite a lot of PCI express bandwidth.

At minimum, all the generated hashes (32 bytes per hash) are sent back to the CPU for
evaluation (-H 2). When using -H 1, 128 bytes per hash are sent to the GPU and back
before and after scrypt

-H 1 uses 8 times more bandwidth than -H 2, but even -H 2 still  uses a significant amount.

The only exception is Maxcoin where hashes are already evaluated on GPU.

Now that Maxwell has gathered significant interest and people are trying to build 5 and
6 GPU systems with risers, it would be a good time to fix this.

also stops at 100TDP, and it has the 6-pin connector.  It was overclocking nicely when actually in the motherboard, but now that it's on a powered riser, it doesn't seem to overclock nicely anymore.  I can boost the clock and memory but the it has minimal effect on my hashrate, but strangely doesn't crash it either...  Has anyone else seen this before with risers?  I'll try a different one tomorrow, I bought a few different ones from various sources.

I've also received this card from nVidia as a review/test sample. still installing drivers for it....

Are you using a 1x to 16x powered riser? or a 16x to 16x unpowered one?

EDIT: now I am getting bluescreens trying to mine (SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION in nvlddkm.sys)

Not a good start into the Maxwell era for me.



EDIT: turns out that an overclock on one of my cards may have caused it. Now that I have ALL
cards back to zero overclock, the bluescreens have gone away and I am mining Yacoin happily.

Well, it seems someone is on to these, New Egg had a ton earlier, now out of stock on almost all of them.

I managed to order 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125502 to play with. Now I am wishing I would have just bought all 6, but too many unknowns at this point.

Does cudaminer support 6 GPUs at once? Any thoughts on a cheap, yet stable MB with 6 pcie slots? I know of the ASRock BTC model, but it's always sold out at the $69 retail and I don feel like paying a scalper $250 for one.

I'll do some wattage readings to confirm what I read on power draw, but thinking I can get away with a 600 watts PS if everything checks out.

I am hoping to put it in my windows box to start with and see if they play with my old 660ti. From there I will try to get a Linux build going, as that is what I would eventually want to run for a dedicated mining rig. Any help/tips appreciated. I will be glad to report any findings I come up with.

Stops at 100% TDP.  However so far its mining stable at an offset of +110mh on the core with no issues and the max evga precision will allow you to go is 135.  (havent tried over +110 yet)

How would I code the cfg to do my GTX 690?  I have a GTX670 as primary GPU (not for long, it's stuck in there because of watercooling, I'm lazy... Undecided) GTX 690 is in second slot.  I know that I'll need two instances open for each GPU on the GTX690.  But I use -d # flag for both cards and cores, but I still get major instabilities.

I've tried -d 0 for GTX670 and then -d 1 for one of the 690 GPUs and it works.  When I try to open another one up with -d 2 I get MAJOR instabilities.  computer grinds to a hault...

*Sometimes* -d 0 it comes up as GTX690...  How can I make it stay the same device # all the time?

I know I can do -d gtx670 in the cfg.  How would I do it for the 690 to designate each GPU?  Maybe this can help...

But what will you do in the summer when the big guns come out? ;-) amd are planning heavy miner gpus. What do you think nvidia is going for with such low power overheads for such a low price :-)

Likely spending the rest of my mini-MAX coin "fortune" lol. Already building 2 6*7950 rigs and just researching what I'd like to do with an Nvidia rig. The new Maxwells are tempting with a ~90 break even and low initial cost.

Also, I doubt AMD has something lined up unless it is very specific to the mining market separate from their GPUs. The R9 290X is already based on their new architecture Hawaii and is very power hungry and hot, so they'll need another approach before they release more, lol.
AMD has of course a card lined up against the 750Ti, the R7-265. How effective it will be, remains to be seen.

Anyway I wanted to hear some other's input, thinking of order 6 right now from New Egg to build a test rig, but want to confirm the math.  Supposedly 280 kHash slightly OC at 60 watts, heck even a 6 card rig would only need a 500 watt PS, would be saving all around if true.

You can easily get these cards over 300kh with max GPU OC (+135) and a +200 or better memory OC.

Has anyone measure the increased wattage draw when overclocking? That seems to be the main benefit, if they go up too much past 60 watts I think.

I am going to buy one just for testing, but would be interested in any other experiences and what the best setup for a 6 card rig would be. For sure a reasonably priced MB with 5 or more slots would be nice, as mentioned the ASRock 6 slot BTC one always seems sold out. Also I think a 600 watt PS would be plenty? I see Corsair ones on sale from time to time under 50 bucks. Thinking if you build supporting infrastructure for under $200 (MB, CPU, PS, USB Stick) ,might be a viable rig.

Also, anyone have a BAMT type image with Cudaminer going yet? To make these work I would think a USB based boot image would be best>

So far you can't adjust the TDP past 100%. So I would say 60w is the max draw but I haven't measured it.

I know the guy pretty well, been a user for a year now.
He didn't like the idea when I presented it to him. He goes after stuff with way more volume and/or innovative algorithms that he finds cool. (like copperlark's keccak or primecoin, yet when I asked about yac he dismissed it quickly Sad)

Might simply be due to the fact that it has been out for almost a year and only recently begun to be popular.

Anyway not meaning to hijack the thread, lol.

I am seriously considering building a 6-7 card GTX 750 Ti machine... the cost is remarkably low and has a break even almost a month sooner then a brand new 7950*6 build lol.

Me too, actually I stopped by here for this very discussion.

Thoughts on MB and power supply? At only 60 watts per card a cheaper 500-600 watts should be enough? Which MB you looking at? The Asrock BTC one with 6  slots seems to be always sold out.
