If big companies are backing ETH, it is probably because they can control it, making it more centralized.
I do not know of any big companies backing ETC, but believe it will show it's worth in the long run.
Greyscale investments is choosing ETC because it is like a girlfriend/boyfriend you know will not cheat.
You can have absolute trust in that regard, bringing value to the relationship, there may be problems, but you can figure them out.
May sound silly, but I also believe that there is room for two Ethers:
One, ETH...very strong and backed by centralized interests that can get stuff done.
Another, ETC...when you want assurance that your contract will be what it is.
