Is it possible to realistically solo mine this coin with your cpu? If so, can you do it through the wallet?

Not with a cpu, but with a gpu card possibly.  But you realistically need a lot of MHs to get lucky when solo mining.  For small scale mining your better off using a pool and even then you really need to use GPU's to get enough hash rate.

YES you can SOLO CPU mine both ethereum and ethereum classic (just not at the same time)
you have to run the full node (geth).

Follow this guide
https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/guides/how-to-mine-ethereum/

If you use the ETH "geth" you will mine ETH. DO NOT RUN BOTH.
If you have had ETH node on your machine before you will need to make a coppy of your "keys" and delete the ethereum folder in user/AppData/Roming

If you use the ETC geth you will mine ETC
Get etc geth here: "ETC geth node 1.4.10" requires no additional flags to use the Ethereum Classic network.
https://github.com/ethereumproject/go-ethereum/releases/tag/6aaf5f3
So NO NEED start your geth as in Step 7 of the above guide with the param
Code:
--oppose-dao-fork

Just rename "geth-windows-4.0-amd64.exe" to "geth.exe" once downloaded and unpacked

Follow the guide step by step and you will be mining SOLO, with your CPU.

One you have the mining up and running with "geth", install the GUI browser to make the "geth" wallet more userfriendly.
Ethereum Classic Mist Wallet - 0.8.1 (1.4.10 go-ethereum) by whatisgravity

Good luck, i solved my first solo block via CPU.  You may wait a long time or you may get one just like that.

Chandler Guo: Vitalik Made ‘Huge Mistake’ In Changing Ethereum Blockchain

http://coinjournal.net/guo-and-ethereum-classic/

Vitalik is not coming back, he is going further down the "fork" rabbit hole with suggestions that the blockchain should have superuser access and be modifiable on demand.  Sorry, but isn't coming back... He has gone to the dark side...

IOHK is very pleased to Announce the First Provably Secure Proof of Stake.

https://twitter.com/IOHK_Charles/status/776048255461314560

Hats off to Charles et al, the first PoS-based blockchain protocol that has
rigorous security analysis. Not the easiest read but arguably a breakthrough publication.
This should pull a green candle  Smiley

How soon, and at what ratio to PoW will we expect to see in this integrated into a new hybrid algorithm?

Hi Green,

This research will be part of discussions currently taking place. POW, POW/POS hybrid discussions are still ongoing so unfortunately I do not have details to provide. As more information becomes available I will be sure to keep this forum posted.  Smiley

Cheers

It's just a dump ... for over a month now.

@Raja_MBZ. "It is just a dump"? That is a sign of a loss of confidence among the holders of ETC. This price range is where it should hold because going lower than this will result in ETC losing the miners. If that happens then we will be vulnerable to a 51% attack. Do not naively think that no one is out there to destroy ETC.

I think reality is beginning to settle on all of us. Instead of parity with ETH happening, all that is happening is a falling ETC price and barely any updates from the development team. I fear that no one is taking ETC seriously and could be viewed as an abandoned platform of Vitalik. What are your thoughts?

No, I'm guessing that it's just a dump. You'll see a pump coming soon, the scene of pump and dump is still active. I really don't see any great or big improvement in ETH either.

Let's hope for the best from the price of ETC as well as from the dev team.

and i support Charles's view.

Moreover; Apple have problems of their own.  Jean-Claude Juncker the unelected President of The European Federation is hitting them with a big tax bill, and people were protesting outside Apple's Irish Office only a few days ago.

I refuse to use Apple products.  The conditions people have to work in to extract the minerals for electronic components is unacceptable. Also, Democratic Republic of Cong  has been controlled by Western Multinationals maintaining war, cahos, and lack of democracy.  Millions die while a select few get rich.  You can help end this by not consuming their products.

Unless all you care for is money?

I thought crypto was way of getting around the Banking and the Multinationals Corporations.
I didn't like how Ethereum Foundation buddied up to the banks.
For me, crypto is part of The Global Insurrection Against Banker Occupation.

@ginmac  I can put http://etc.ethermine.org/  up if you wish.  Are they any good?  Do they pay on time, good ddos protection? Can you vouch for them?

Who is the hell selliing etc?? this is big amount of selling!!! Angry Angry Angry

This is crypto, it seems that they are selling but they are buying.
i think thiis coin is already fail... price tell everything market tell the thruth....
considering that ETC is just 2 month old lets look at EThereum when it was 2 month old?
2 month after crowdfunding what was the price ? i guess i remember it was below 1$ and then didnt deliver anything real till just a year ago. and it broke promisses.
lets look at ETC what has been acomblished?
it  stood alive.
has a plan to deal with the most reckless gift the Ethereum foundation gave us the diff bomb.
has first dapps working in progress.
has lots of devs joining and wait it is listed on exhanges
thats a lot more then ethereum had after 2 month and o yes it does all this with no crowdfunding money couse ETH took all of that with them.
so yes this is a strong coin. couse the comunity is strong .
