Here are a couple of options to do a clean split:

Don't just send the coins without doing one of the above splits, otherwise both chains will move your coins.

be careful m8...i was lucky i had ETH on polo & trex, but i might need to use another way when i take ETH out of cold storage

There are two chains at the moment. If you support not to bail out the DAO holders, you should buy the ETC.
