About global hash power...( part 8 )

Yesterday, the network encounter a big problem : 1 pool forked and follow it's own way. This is due to too much hashrate on the same node, leaving others behind.

Despite of the "Community", "People are power" and "fair coin" slogan, I know that most of miners just look at the pools fees, don't care about the project and people behind, look for maximum profits and always ask "exchange ?" but for the safety of the network, take care that no more than 50% of the global hashrate is on the same pool : you can loose every coins mined in case of fork like it happens yesterday and make suffer the network. It's not good at the time of we are close to enter exchange. From what I can see, most of this "community" does absolutely not support this project. In this case, I do not see the point of continuing.

Stop thinking stupidly that the higher hasrate pool give you the bigger amount, every hashrate matters and is paid at its level.
Look at the transaction fees too, there all are not the same (maybe some vimdiff difficulties or too fast copy/paste...)
Look at the ping too and choose the closest pool to you, the faster is the better.

All pools are working fine (maybe irdpool.de has problems, I sent a message to the dev)

LOAD BALANCE BETWEEN POOLS
And NO : you won't earn less or more : the new algorithm take care of this but :
- you will contribute to a better network stability and speed,
- you will support all the pools.

####################################################################################

This will always be a problem with most coins, atleast the ones i have tried to mine. There will always be one pool with 40 -50 % and even more hash rate. Might i add a suggestion, how about removing the pool with the largest hash rate from the annoucement post and if there is any other page with the pool list, there too. Temporarily  ofcourse, say for a week or two and assuming that pool owners will be okay with this. The advantage is that new miners will probably go to other pools, granted there might be some disadvantage in that but it will probably help to balance the hash rate by a slight amount. Also usually i stick with a pool unless there has been a bad experience or extremely bad luck. So even if these new miners are aware of the biggest pool later they might still continue with the pool they are used to.

Might turn out to be a stupid idea but worth a try i think.

Did you try .

I periodically switch between pools just to distribute hash power. None of the pool "Getting Started" mention fixed diff, but i have used fixed diff with irdpool.ru, ird.cashpool.us and irdpool tk and var diff with the other pools.
. works with irdpool.ru, ird.cashpool.us and irdpool tk

I would have suggested keeping the same format for irdpool.fr just for consistency but "+" works fine too

I would have tried inserting a period first, except I saw that the French pool used + as a separator instead (I will refrain from making the typical joke about the French here... So... Difficult... Though...). Also, it usually takes a few hours before a pending balance starts to show up and I didn't want to waste a bunch of time by choosing the wrong separator.

As for why I asked about it here rather than email the pool owner directly, I thought an answer to my question would be of interest to others. I know many feel the same way I do about the totally dysfunctional vardiff strategy usually implemented on Cryptonote pools and it is only by complaining about it loudly and often that anything will ever get done - after all, there was a reason you implemented fixed diff, no?

You are right. Default vardiff config does not work properly. But it is possible to optimize it. I am currently trying to optimize irdpool.eu.
Could you point your miner to irdpool.eu and tell me what do you think of my configuration?
Thanks!

Sure, I'm trying something else out right now but I'll be able to switch over to irdpool.eu within the next 30-45 minutes. My ping time to your pool is 115ms which is basically the same as to irdpool.fr and so not ideal, but still workable at a reasonably high difficulty.

I just started mining this on the official US pool and I see it implements the terminally broken vardiff system so common to Cryptonote pools.
I'm doing about 720 H/s on the 5555 port and diff is already at 129922 after a mere 10 minutes. I understand that higher difficulty shares are worth more, but that is only true if they get solved/submitted in a timely fashion.
Usually one specifies a fixed diff on similar pools by inserting either a "+" or a "." in between and . I read the first page and the last 3 pages of post but didn't see this mentioned for ird.cashpool.us (I did see that a pool in France offers fixed diff, but ping time isn't too good for me here in the US).
Hello, there is no "official" pool  Smiley
each belong to their dev. Maybe ird.cashpool.us did not allow it. I just implement it on https://irdpool.fr

EDIT : Pedant ? I'm just trying to help. Next time I will just answer : "No pool support here : ask directly to the owner"

I gave you some sass in my edit because you took the time to correct my description of ird.cashpool.us but didn't take the time to read the part which I bolded above for extra emphasis.

https://irdpool.fr restarted today : Fixed difficulty for miners is now available.
Just add "+YOUR_FIXED_DIFF" at the end of your address.
irdpool.fr isn't working to me, idk why
what's the error ? I tried all the 6 ports (nossl/ssl) with a fixed diff and it's ok.
just add +diff at the end

Is IRD going to masternodes? IRD distribute a lot many coins in first year. What is plan for years after first year?
I think MN will be required for handling supply, demand level.

They said no. I asked already once.
It's only current plan. Plan can change in the future. I hope that devs will change their thoughts and add masternode, which is good for the network and also a hottrend in crypto ecosystem recent months.
Actually MN is not needed for XMR forks, XMR forks already have anonymity function by themselves. However, in the view of continuous buy support, MN will works.

It still hangs on the sending and receiving wallet 500 IRD. The situation has not changed. I will wait for your next update. I had a similar situation before the first fork, then I sent 250 IRD. After the fork passed, everything was added to the purse. This is already my second experiment ))
One 500 IRD tx was integrated at block 78290 : block size = 64826 bytes, is it yours ?
Yes Steve, my Wink
So it's ok, the network react as expected : big tx are send with the delay of finding a big enough block with the priority of size and fee
