@Dargo

Any news on when we may see Leverage 10:1 (or larger) as an option for margin trading ?
In that WCHangout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoTvEsA970M from June 11th, Jesse mentioned it might be switched on in the coming weeks.
That was 4 weeks ago.

Thanks

We're still considering this, but have grown more cautious about it since early June. 10x leverage is quite a lot with a security as volatile as bitcoin. So the ETA is uncertain at this point.

Any idea if Fidor is affected?

EU Banks Forced to Report Bitcoin-Linked Accounts Transacting Over €1,000
http://cointelegraph.com/news/114659/eu-banks-forced-to-report-bitcoin-linked-accounts-transacting-over-1000

I can't speak for Fidor, but it sounds like all EU banks, including Fidor, are required to adhere to this new EU directive. However, it's not clear to me that the EU directive itself says anything about special reporting, monitoring, or investigation of accounts related to bitcoin. My guess is that individual banks will probably vary as to whether they have a special policy about bitcoin related accounts or not, and this will depend on whether or not they consider bitcoin related accounts as sufficiently higher risk for money laundering or terrorist financing to justify special treatment. All this is just my quick impression, though, after reading the article and glancing at the linked documents.

All the FIUs are already drowning in the flood of "suspicious transactions", which banks send out all the day to play the ball safe. These reports are only used in two cases: (1) There is evidence of a crime and the database is scanned if it includes something related, (2) the database is analyzed in general. Hence, none of these reports is investigated proactively. I am pretty sure the same will be true for the flood of reports on bitcoin-linked bank accounts.

Still, this increases the cost of compliance for banks which, in turn, will close bitcoin-linked bank accounts. A very ugly development for bitcoin in general.

Just a reminder of the bug with calculating the margin, assume the following example:

- I have enough funds to cover a 100BTC long position.
- I am currenlty 50BTC long
- I have another 25BTC buy order in the book

I am thus allowed to place another 25BTC buy order. I can do that and afterwards place sell orders in the book to cancel my long position.

What I cannot do in this example is placing a 25BTC sell order and afterwards placing another 25BTC long order in the book. In that case I need to cancel the sell order, place the buy order and can only afterwards place the sell order again.

--> sell orders in the book, which would cancel long positions are currently included in the calculation of the maximum margin for buy orders -- but only when they are placed before the buy orders and not when they are placed after the buy orders.

Thanks for the reminder. We haven't forgotten about it, but it is taking some time to fit it in along with the many other things that need to get done.

No rush from my side. It is just a little nuisance. Just good to know that it is not forgotten.

To answer your question, it's not really possible to set exactly the same minimum for everything when you allow a choice between setting the volume currency to base currency or quote currency. The difficulties include:

  • Bitcoin price is constantly fluctuating, so the amount of EUR or anything else exactly equal to 0.01 BTC will be constantly changing
  • There will be rounding errors in calculation
  • For market orders or orders that trigger market orders, you don't know the average fill price in advance, so you don't know in advance how much EUR or anything else will be equal to 0.01 BTC for the order

Although the minimums can't be exactly the same, they could be closer than they are now and we will consider making them closer.

Yes you are right with these issues =/
Thanks Smiley

The most important ist, that everybody knows about the different minimums. I use Kraken since a long time and did not know about it Cheesy  So maybe there should be a hint about it somewhere or simular Smiley (are the minimum amounts in the FAQ/Trading Guide? .. by the way I liked the FAQ/Trading Guide style you had a while ago more.. I think it was more like the style of API documentation before.. with that you had everything at one look)

Thank you Serpens66.

We can understand your frustration and thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I've messaged you 1-on-1 so we can resolve your issue.

I confirm that kraken.austin works for Kraken. kraken.austin will be helping Yunus and I to represent Kraken on bitcointalk.

I'm sorry we didn't reply about the minimum order issue back when it was first asked about. I think there was a miscommunication between Yunus and I about which one of us was going to follow up on it. We are looking into it and I'll post something more when I have more information.

Problem kind of solved:
Austin told me, that it is possible to change the quote currency.
So instead of placing an order of 0.005BTC, you place an order about 1€ ~= 0.005BTC .
It seems that 0.01BTC is the minimum with BTC, but 1€ is the minimum with EUR.

Why are you not able to set a minimum for everything? So just make a minimum of 0.001BTC for all pairs (all pairs with btc). Or make just the minimum of 1€.
But two different minimum for the same pair are not good I think.

I think it's a great feature Kraken offers in letting you choose the volume currency. But it does create issues for setting order minimums and there are pros and cons with the different options. I'm looking into this and will get back to you once I have better understanding of the pros and cons and what the best solution might be.

one thing that is annoying me to death, can you do that when you visit the website you are already in the sing-in tab? because some times, i forget about that and i start writing my password on the sign-up field...

So when you go to kraken.com, you want to be automatically directed to kraken.com/login? Is that what you mean?

yeah exactly, maybe it can be done only for those who are already registered, based on their ip?

just throwing this out

OK, we'll consider this. I'm not sure everyone would want this behavior though. For now I'd recommend just bookmarking the login page in your browser (but yeah, I understand that you might find it more convenient to just type the URL).

Would you like to discuss adding new altcoins such as DASH and XMR to your site?

Funny I was just thinking the same thing yesterday. The coins offered are already quite a fine selection, but if any I would also add one of these type of coins (DASH and XMR being to two most prominent).

Thanks for the input - we don't have any plans to add DASH or XMR at the present time. We may add more digital currencies later, but our primary focus is on Bitcoin.

That's ok but is there a reason why you don't add these coins to your site? Is it because you don't want to expand your site with more altcoins? I wish I could do BTC/XMR, BTC/DASH trades when I get bored playing with BTC/USD in your site. I don't trust other exchanges as much as yours.

Altcoins are not high priority for us at the present time. Bitcoin is by far our primary focus. We may add some more, but it's not our goal to add every coin that is interesting, innovative, or has a large user base. I'm sure you can look at the coins we currently offer and say, "well if you offer those, then you should offer coins x, y, and z too." But it's simply not our goal to offer a comprehensive set of altcoins and the selection of coins we do offer is bound to seem somewhat random as a result. So, it's nothing against XMR or DASH, we just aren't looking to add all worthy coins.
