This week, the Polis Core Team focused on particular issues such as:

- Compilation of wallets.
- Infrastructure update to make more efficient internal processes.
- Finished the first implementation for the PoW to PoS change.
- Three different implementations are being developed and this week testing for the first one will start.

PolisPay
PolisPay Team
This week, the Polispay Team worked on the following:

- Deposits are now stored locally on the phone.
- Requests used to be made to a server. Now the requests are local.
- The payment module was having some issues due to recent changes in the system but are now working and improvements were made to provide more information of each payment.
- Daily deposit tests are now being implemented to assure full funcionality.

PolisPay Beta
Regarding the PolisPay Beta, we have some exciting news.

- E-mails were sent to the beta testers.
- This week the cards will be sent to the beta testers.
- A solution regarding the Passport’s IDs is being resolved.

The Polis Community
- The Polis Ghana team has successfully arranged with Association of Geography students(Geosa) to speak about Polis in their upcoming event. Their event will bring about thousand university student together to discuss the way forward of the association The Polis Ghana team will capture this opportunity to speak about Polis Pay and how Polis will help them if they integrate it their day to day economic activities. The events is Wednesday 10th October. We will update the community as to how the event will go. We will also use this opportunity to see how the youth will embrace Polis.

Polis Core

Proof-of-Stake
As it is known, the change to proof-of-stake was not successful and we had to go back to version 1.3.1. We came to this decision because more time is needed to make test in the testnet to ensure a successful change to proof-of-stake.

The ETA is October the 18th if everything goes according to schedule.

If you still have version 1.4.2, please downgrade your wallets to 1.3.1.

On September the 18th of 2018 a bug was fixed in Bitcoin Core which prevented the CVE-2018–17144 exploit. This is a low risk exploit, nevertheless CryptoBreach required a fix for this for them to be able to deposit and withdraw Polis from the exchange.

Because of this, the Polis Core dev team implemented the 1.3.1.1 version, which fixes the exploit and enables the use of CryptoBridge with no issue. This version was send to CryptoBridge and it is expected that deposits and withdrawals will be possible in a few days.

For the users this update is not mandatory, but it is recommended.

Polispay Team
Regarding the PolisPay team, they worked on changing the way information concerning public and private keys were stored in a server as it is done in BitPay. Instead that information is now stored in each user’s phone for security reasons. As a result the transactions were unstable for a bit but now transactions and creating wallets work well.

They’re working on the last details of sending money but once that’s been made there will be a completely functional release soon.

Polispay Card Beta
Because of the recent issues with CryptoBridge and the PoS change, the cards have not been sent to the PolisPay Beta participants. This is because a lot of our time and resources were focused to fix those issues, nevertheless this week we’ll contact and send the cards to the PolisPay Beta participants.

Governance Portal
As it is known, POLIS Ninja has been on hold for a few weeks. Because of this, there is no ideal way to look the details of governance proposals.
As a solution, a web site is being developed that will provide a simple and concise way to see the proposals made by users. The ETA of this web site is October 5th. POLIS Ninja will return next week.

Web Site
A new main web site it’s being developed because the one that we have at the moment was a temporary one. This website is estimated to be finished by November and we’ll consult with the community to make this web site better and with better design.

Exchanges
The Polis Team knows how important is having liquidity in the cryptocurrency market. Therefore, we are currently looking into new exchanges to incorporate Polis.

At this moment we’ve made a request to the following exchanges:

- https://txbit.io/ — This exchange will list us if enough people vote for Polis, so we’ll be regularly posting to remind you to vote for us in this platform. We can make this together!

Also, we’ll be returning to Cryptopia once the network has been changed to PoS. We appreciate the community for your patience regarding this issue.
Regarding big exchanges we hope to start pursuing them once the PolisPay Card is available for the regular public as the requirements of some exchanges is to have a functional product.

Hello Polis Community,

We are working on a quick patch to the CVE-2018-17144 exploit required by CryptoBridge. The new patched wallet should be up between today and tomorrow, and it will not be a mandatory update, but highly recommended. Once we have this wallet, deposits and withdrawals in CryptoBridge will be back to normal.

CryptoBridge is downgrading their wallets, the market should be open soon!  The market should be open between today and tomorrow.

Why is Polis switching to Proof-of-Stake and why was it rushed?
A double spend attack was recorded in the network, in September 4th, stealing roughly 90000 POLIS from cryptopia.

What went wrong with the Proof-Of-Stake fork?
The last block was mined by a non updated wallet. And the difficulty readjustment just didn't trigger. This means that finding a block with 1.4.x could take months.

What are we going to do about it?
The solution to this is to downgrade your wallets to 1.3.1, and start mining on PoW. We will look further on this issues, and will delay the fork day.
