It will be interesting to see if the SP30 can match the KncMiner Neptune and Bitmain S3 power efficiency of ~.7W/GH.

Also, I'm sure Bitmain could create a S4 and run their BM1382 chip at a lower clock speed to get far better power efficiency than .7W/GH. They did the same thing with the BM1380 in the S2 and got twice the power efficiency versus the S1.

This is one of the problems you run into when not testing chips and / or having test boards with one chip.

It is harder to make out the reason why the chip is performing not as simulated.

Then again, they seem confident that they will be able to get the unit working on the ordered pcbs, so the problem can´t be too big a deal.

Let´s see what the results of the more detailed analysing is, and we will all be wiser.

preorder is always a bad deal

sp30 will earn much less btc than in hand hardware you can buy now

dont forget about hosting fees due to ridiculous cooling design

unit should be 4u and have 8x120 fans

also that promised specs can be not achieved,

remember terraminer or bfl?

What in hand hardware?

So because 2 companies which started as a scam failed/scammed you think that SP30 won't reach the specs? I know that you haven't really thought about it, but please do an effort to think a bit more.

there are a lot of hardware in hand with specs reached Smiley
i was not scammed by any company, i dont buy preorders,
only hardware in hand, used or new.

You are mistaking SP-Tech with BFL.

I can very well differentiate BFL from SP-Tech and have said that SP-Tech have an amazing product with SP10.

If each chip pulls double the wattage that it was supposed to, do you think they made sure that the copper layers in the PCB can handle the extra load? Can the rest of the components handle the extra load?

The may not need "Two Weeks" as BFL did to redesign a PCB board 50 times, but it has not been ruled out.

The question is does the gear do 5th or 4th?

5th would call for  17% refund

4th  would call for  33% refund.
Actually, it would call for a higher refund as the power efficiency would also be impacted by either 17% or 33% (in your example).

It would call for an additional 500$ refund if the power efficiency would be off by 17%. (calculated on a basis of 100$/kW/m hosting cost and maximum power draw of 2.7kW at the wall, over one year only)

This is a conservative estimate, but let´s wait until final specs are released.

SP-Tech says delivery dates will not be impacted. This means that hashrate will be constained by the 2400W power envelope; power supplies have already been qualified.

So if, for example, the chip needs 0.8W/GH at the system level then the SP30 will be a 3TH/s box drawing 2400W. If it is 0.6W/GH then you can have 4TH/s in the same box.

good points.

so if delivery is  on time.

Can you at least stop with the false advertising?

Or has there ever been a time where you offered the best w/gh and $/gh?

Really?

I paid 2 x SP30 for under .7$ / gh/s DELIVERED to Norway... that is better than anything else right now.

It will have 0.34 w/gh per chip... we can test that when it gets plugged in next month.

I don't find anything FALSE here.

Seriously you are bashing these guys given the other shameful companies still hocking wares here in Bitcoinland? Come on Jimmothy you are being more than transparent here Spondoolies Tech is not claiming anything that they can NOT deliver. They are unlike many of the other companies out there cause they do have a VERY professional team. One of the best in this community. You would have to agree to that.

This sort of targeting of Spondoolies seems very out of place given the real problems the community faces. You  have been watching them provide exemplar worthy customer service right? I mean serious they have gone out of their way to make customers happy well outside the basic "contract" for miners. Seriously there are few if any flies on their shit.

you have paid for preorder
you are not hashing
you have frozen your money
you will not mine back your btc
you are hoping that miner will be on time (95% preorders are not)
you are hoping that miner will have advertised specs (most preorders have not)
you are hoping that miner/chips will not be held by customs (avalon case)
you are hoping that difilcuty in september will be low (it wont be)

better go play just-dice...
or buy hardware in stock

bic, sorry, your dice roll ended as usual,

sp30 will not be on time, will be under advertised specs and so on...

good that diffilcuty is not skyrocketing...
but i am hashing and you have frozen assets.

I prepared myself that there may be some problems with the asics, especially after recent silence and lack of updates.

RockerBox ASICs failed to fulfil the expectations/specifications, so they mentioned compensation.
I am happy to receive extra SP10 to make up/fill up lost hashing power in SP30.
It all depends how much less than 6TH/s hashing power each SP30 is going to have.

+1

The SP10 PSU is running at a nice overhead. I'm expecting SP30 PSU to be able to deliver more than 2400W.

They may or may not need a pcb redesign, guess we'll find out soon enough.

Reading this brings back memories.

They are quoting best case power estimates and guess what, if they don't come in on spec, the power supplies chosen won't be able to handle extra capacity so they'll have to completely redesign the PCB and the box will end up running slowing at the same wattage.

They may or may not need a pcb redesign, guess we'll find out soon enough.

Hello, for those who received a SP10 in Europe or US could you please how much you paid for customs?
I am trying to get an estimate how much will be the cost of it...

None in the US, Europe according to your local VAT.

The situation is this: After receiving the first batch of RockerBox ASICs, our initial results show a lower hash rate than expected.

Whilst this is not the best of news, you have to hand it to Guy for being honest and upfront once the problem was discovered, many companies wouldn't have been so quick.

I'm with others ... don't judge yet ... let them test and report back, I'm sure they will do the very best they can for people with orders, they've been consistent with everything else so far.

I would have to agree with you, the transparency is refreshing.

it boils down to what you get. on time delivery of   5th at .5w sp30 is not a world ending event.

a simple refund  fixes the issue.

more complex question would be   5th at .7 watts with a long delay.

or worse 6th at .8 watts.

Feeling better about my choice to do s-3's piece meal 2 at a time.

Lessons learned from Black Arrow...

1.  Do not promise anyone compensation specifics because whatever you offer now won't be good enough a week later.  Wait until you're shipping to announce compensation specifics.

2.  Expect refund requests, a lot of them.  Especially if you're late.

3.  Expect a lot of trolling.

and lastly...

4.  Continue to communicate with your customers.  This is most important.  What you promised them was a failure.  So now you need to shore up their confidence that you will do right by them.

Presentation over, there are snacks and coffee in the lobby.  Thanks for coming.

The problem I see is as follows:

Lower hashrate (!and power efficiency) entitles to compensation. This could come in the form of:

- additional delivered hashpower (complicated due to leadtime, fractual compensation ie 1/4 sp30 impractical)
- additional hosted hashpower (leadtime, but higher flexibility ie 1/4 sp30 equivalent can be awarded)
- refund of an appropriate amount, alternatively discounts for additional units (choice of the customer)

aswell as hybrid solutions:
- hosted units could be billed the same 310$/ 6TH hashrate regardless of efficiency, compensation only needed for possible lower hashrate but not efficiency

discounts for additional units is NOT a proper compensation, unless it is just one of multiple choices, but we should just wait-it is all guesswork for now..

Finding a good solution to this is obviously in spondoolies and their customers best interest, so let´s see how the final numbers will turn out.
