But it will be way under hash rate, way over power, way later than expected.  We've all seen this story over, and over again.  Spondoolies isn't unique in thinking they could do the job - what is unique is their supreme confidence in bragging about being able to deliver.  Now, we see the exact same problem the others had, 'we are going to spend a few days looking at the data'.  This is precisely the step BFL took upon firing up their new systems.

Why are you trolling now? We need to wait a few more days for the final specs and you claim to be way way way. How do you know how much under hashrate it will be or how much over power it will be? You don't, but you are making lame accusations and you are comparing to a company that had a delay over 9 months. They said that the shipping dates aren't affected, only performance.

Edit: I do expect jimmothy to come and troll here and I understand him (he needs something to not think about his dividends), but you I don't understand.

On another note it seems like the difficulty is giving us a nice surprise:

If I know anything about Spondoolies in my dealings with them so far they will move mountains to make their customers happy.

I have had nothing by excellent service and over the top compensation for anything that went even slightly amiss in my dealing with them.

Just like the others.  Promise, promise, promise - Ooops!

But they will deliver!

I believe in Spondoolies and I want them to succeed so I am not worried they will do right by their customers.

Even butterfly labs had good intentions.  Then, when trying to 'fix' the problem they spent shitloads of money and went broke.

Same thing going on here.  Spondoolies will spend all their profits and more trying to get this 'right' - and go broke and not deliver.  'Trust us, we know what we are doing.  We will deliver"  "Wait a minute, the simulations didn't work out"

friedcat promised 0.3W/GH and it turned to be 1.1W/GH/Wall

your results missed expectations by big margin or small ?

thanks

Not that miss ...
Again, please be patient. We'll release all the information, including root cause analysis.

Many customers also opted for the hosting groupbuy. Will the effective running cost per TH stay the same on that?

I would propose setting the chips to a low enough speed so the advertised W/GH is met, and shipping additional units to get to the total ordered hashrate.

Your suggestions are fair.
Regarding the group buy hosting cost, we'll decide later after we'll publish the final spec.
Regarding your second suggestion, unfortunately, we can't do that. We're aiming to give the maximum compensation to all the customers, with our limited resources.

Hmm about that refund jk , I paid for a phantom 6TH miner i guess  I bet we will be lucky if they hash at 3-4 TH at this point.  Suspending sales is a pretty big step which could mean the hash rates are SIGNIFICANTLY lower than expectations.

I believe in Spondoolies and I want them to succeed so I am not worried they will do right by their customers.

Thanks for the early update Corem.

Just as Biodom stated I would withhold commenting before we have final specs. Suspending sales seems the appropriate move when you know that you have an issue, but you don't know the final specs which can't that bad as you presented them. Let's just wait a couple more days.

@Collider I don't think that it's possible to use more chips because more chips would mean extra PCBs and extra components too.

Ouch.

This is exactly why selling pre-order products with specs based on simulation results is a terrible idea.

Real world performance almost always falls below the simulation results for one reason or another.

Until the hardware is actually built and you have real world results, you don't know what you don't know.

Thats a cop out though

I dont know im a software developer by trade and for high end services/apps we build we always assume capacity will be 30%
higher than we expect i.e we factor in the overhead into our code and infrastructure so when we actually DO go live we are ready for either higher usage or
technical issues that crop up unexpectedly like bandwidth hardware issuess etc.

bad analogy but you get my drift , as an Engineer you should over spec your designs as much as you in order the deal with issues like this that crop up in real world applications not to beat a dead horse but I don't think that's the issue here I think the issue is more likely the Asics were not properly fabbed or an error was introduced at the foundry level.   Just my wild uneducated guess though.

Please spondoolies, if there is anything to be done within that compensation to keep the promised W/GH, it should have absolute priority.

Overclocking the chips and reaching a possibly even worse W/GH could turn this product from an excellent unit into catastrophic failure.

I think I speak for everyone when I say nobody will mind a higher used space per TH, if they still get around the same power consumption.

I am saying this (also) because with the promised stats, the sp30 had a 20% better energy efficiency than what the S4 should have.

Dear Customers,

As you know, Spondoolies-Tech is committed to delivering superior products and the highest levels of customer service and support. That’s why I wanted to communicate with you as early as possible about a concern we've identified with our new ASIC and mining rigs.

The situation is this: After receiving the first batch of RockerBox ASICs, our initial results show a lower hash rate than expected.
Our highest concern is to ensure the best possible experience for our customers. Therefore until we can evaluate the significance of this development, we are temporarily suspending sales of the SP 30 mining rigs.

At this time, our Engineering Team is conducting thorough analysis and testing in order to figure out the precise technical details. We will release the results of our analysis, along with updated product specs, in a couple of days, once we’ll have hard data to share with you.
We believe we understand the reason for the lower hash-rate, but we want to make sure before we release the information.

Spondoolies-Tech stands behind its commitment to our customers. Therefore in the coming weeks we expect to adjust prices accordingly, and announce a compensation plan for those who have already placed orders.

We want to stress that delivery date will not be affected by this issue.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause our customers. At the same time, we want to reassure you that all products that we ship will continue to meet the very high standards our customers have come to expect.

Thank you for your patience as we gather further information and formulate a plan of action.

We look forward to continuing and strengthening the relationship we have with our customers. If there is anything else that we can do to minimize your inconvenience in regard to this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us. Please note that in response to this development we are expanding our customer service department — and we apologize in advance for any delays in responding to your queries.

Again, we regret any inconvenience caused as a result, and we thank you for your continued loyalty.

Sincerely,

Guy Corem

@spondoolies

Does the lower performance corelate with a higher W/GH or will you be able to keep that as advertised?

Lower performance and higher W/GHs as a result (to partially compensate)
Please be patient and allow us few days of testing before sharing hard data.
