Our prices will be based off the trades not the other way around. I'm saying you guys have to decide if our price will be 7500 spots each or 4000 spots each

I guess I have to wait until August 8th to see what your plan is. If, as you say, you were to open today and offer to trade an ounce of silver for my 7200 spots, I don't see how that would affect the Spots market at all. I could sell my 7200 spots today at the bid price for 0.3 BTC and trade that for 1.5 ounces.

I'm assuming that either you have a better plan in mind than I've thought up or else you're tossing numbers out of the air to make a point but wouldn't actually offer an ounce of silver for 7200 spots today.

On the other hand, heck. If anyone wants some silver, I'll gladly sell an ounce of silver for 7200 Spots today. Smiley

Our price will be based on bid price not asking price. That's why I say if you want the price lower in spots then youll have to raise your bids on coins-e

Hm.

1 oz @ $19.55 times 0.00952380 (USD:BTC) is BTC0.18619047. Divide that by 7200....

You're saying that if you did it today you'd peg the value of Spots to 2586 satoshi? Because that's not much incentive to buy up Spots at 8500 satoshi (Coins-E, trades have been over 4200 satoshi for days). You're making the current bid rate of 4200 satoshi sound attractive, and I doubt that's what you meant to imply.

Quick update

If we were to release a price for silver right now it would be roughly 7200 Spots per 1 new troy ounce bar. This means that if you guys want to spend less Spots per purchase once things go live, you're going to have to start raising your buying prices. We are not going to set an artificial price once we launch the exchange, but will be basing it on an an average of recent trades. It doesn't matter to us whether the price is 10,000 Spots or 1,000 Spots, we run off percentages

iGotSpots.com - Prices will be updated once a day for the next week, more often after that. More information next Thursday

Just downloaded the wallet and saw the difficulty is at 13. Surprising I missed this while it got mined so much.

Would be grateful for any donations MSw5vtFpoQUeFrmGvutmXdZVkE17SviPCf
Thanks

I'll hit you up with a 10 Spot when I get back to my computer.  Don't worry about high difficulty as soon as the hash rate drops the difficulty will quickly follow. It adjust super fast. Welcome aboard!

You probably didn't notice because we haven't been spamming everywhere. Were busy on our august 8th announcement.  Wink

Still no spotter blocks found.  At block 5166 with 253134 outstanding.  253134 / 49 = 5166.

Now I have to wait to test the new Next Block Reward predictor script for Spots  Sad

So much for trying to cheat  Wink

Well actually, now that I think about it....

* The predictor scripts are working well on other coins.
* Spots is using the same general algo for randomness as those other coins.
* Spotter Blocks are 10,045 SPT, equiv to 205 normal blocks
* The "chance" for a Spotter Block is 10 in 100,000
* No Spotter Blocks have been found yet
* Spots is traded

So seems to me that if someone was willing to gamble and had the resources to setup a proper monitoring and hopping system, well then:  Spots looks like a possible candidate.

I could be totally off here:  but isn't getdifficulty showing the diff of the current block, and the getwork target showing the diff for the next-to-be-found block?    Since there is a diff change every 2 blocks, then the getdifficulty and getwork will be different every other block.

It looks like that you are right about it.
Still, I think it should be changed to show the difficulty of the block which currently in the process of being mined, instead of the difficulty of already mined block.

As long as it is noted as a bug (or feature to add) and scheduled to be fixed in the future release, I'm fine with it. I can mine it based on the target :-)

Yea, for sure. I've got it on the list now of small bug fixes, the ones that need to be addressed, but aren't coin-breaking.

Again, I genuinely thank you. I appreciate the feedback and probably wouldn't have ever even known about it if you hadn't pointed it out

I don't understand why no scrypt coin would properly retarget to keep consistent generation rate (the most valuable attribute of any crypto-currency).

Here what needs to be done:  Adjust difficulty every block by 10% (could be other %) down or up towards desired difficulty, based on the last 10 blocks average times. So there  would be no sudden spikes up or down no matter what the luck was or what the network hash rates jumped to.

Once this algorithm is implemented into any crypto-coin, it will be there for a long time.

Well, Spots is a little different. I'm going to be launching...something...fairly soon. There are still under 5500 blocks in over a week, which is perfect for what we're trying to do with it. I see what you mean for alts in general, but for Spots in particular, it's not about keeping the coin generation rate stable, it's about keeping the price stable on the exchanges.

I admit, it may be a code issue or something that you are pointing out, but it's functioning just as we want it to. I see no reason to push out a client update and have people download and deal with all that just to change the way difficulty retargeting is displayed to the people that are digging that deep. For all intents and purposes, it's working just fine.

That does not mean that I don't appreciate you bringing it to my attention; I really do. That means that if an issue comes up where we need to update the client for another reason, this change can also be included into it. Again, I really do appreciate constructive criticisms. Thanks for pointing it out

Ok, now I see what you're saying. Either way, though, it's adjusting properly. However, I'm confused as to why you think it has malicious intent to fool charts? It's obviously not. Sure we have spikes both high and low, but if you look at the average profitability on coinchoose, it's pretty close to where it should be

Sure, it could be a bug, but it still needs to be fixed.

Look at it from the people who are only mining this coin based on profitability perspective:

- They would see it as still profitable and mine it (even though it is no longer the case) based on getdifficulty which everybody is using to see what the current difficulty is.
- The reverse case: nobody, who is watching profitability, would mine it (because they don't see it profitable enough to mine), but people in the "know" would mine it based on the actual difficulty when there is nobody else on the network to take advantage of low difficulty.

So, as I said: it could be a bug, but unless it is promptly fixed, it could be considered as "malicious intent".

Edit: It only takes 2-5 Minutes for the difficulty to adjust from low to high, so, it means that coinchoose profitability estimate is only accurate when difficulty is high, because those periods are much longer.

As you can see, there are a lot of consistent mismatches between 2 difficulties.
There could be a bug in the code, but I still don't see a reason why the same client would calculate difficulties in two different ways. Why would the difficulty from "getdifficulty" command not just return the difficulty from the target? I'm connected to 31 nodes.

Any Spotter Blocks found?

Nope. Only a .01% per block so it could be the next 10 or there may never be one ever.

Quick way to check...go here:
http://altcha.in/chain/Spots

Take total coins / 49

If that is equal to the block number then we don't have any yet. If it doesn't match up then subtract 10045 until you get to the block number. Each time you subtract that's a spotter block

Still no spotter blocks found.  At block 5166 with 253134 outstanding.  253134 / 49 = 5166.

Now I have to wait to test the new Next Block Reward predictor script for Spots  Sad

So much for trying to cheat  Wink

Can somebody explain why there is almost always a disconnect between difficulties from "getdifficulty", "getmininginfo" and calculated target difficulty from "getwork" :

Target is ....000081b2, which is  0xb2810000 = 2994798592

difficulty = 4294967295 (0xffffffff) / 2994798592 = 1.4341 (94K cgminer)

and difficulty from getdifficulty and getmininginfo is 3.8243

It took about 2.5 minutes for the getwork difficulty to show the same difficulty of 1.4341 as a target difficulty from getwork

I smell a bad intent over here to confuse coinchoose.com and other Multi-coin sites/pools to mine this coin when the difficulty is high.

There is no reason why the same client would return different difficulties to different requests

Please, prove me wrong.

We haven't changed anything since the second day after launch when we updated the client to fix syncing. That was before we were even being considered for an exchange or on coinchoose's radar.

Even if that was our ill-intention, it would be 100% pointless since the difficulty changes so often and so dramatically. As soon as a multi-pool jumps on it, it would not be profitable at all for them to mine on it for more than a few blocks.  I actually prefer when they aren't on it, so people that are on the actual spots pools or our dedicated solo miners are getting the coins instead of multis.

I'm also not taking 2.5 minutes to see the same numbers. Give it about an hour and try again, let me know the results. We had a slight hiccup on the network earlier this morning, not sure if it was a thwarted attack, or just a pool getting too much of the network hashrate.

If you still feel like we are trying to be shady when you re-check it in a little bit (after things have settled back to normal), post again.

Don't forget, these are slower blocks, so sometimes things DO take a little longer to line up than a coin with a 12 second block time
