Hi there,

Is it still possible to run a service node in the spreadcoin wallet? Or do I have to run a full node in the Bitcoin wallet? I can't find any information on the website of Spreadcoin, maybe someone here can help me?

Stay tuned, I have the next update almost ready.

Here are screenshots of the linux and mac versions

As you see, it looks more or less exactly the same as the windows version, which is one of my design goals.

Now, I have to finish 2 functions first that I have started and that need to be finished before I can release the next update, or else it's gonna be a mess.
So stay tuned, shouldn't take much time.  Smiley

All I have to say is HOLY SHIT that spread coin preview wallet sync's extremely fast.  I had a full working wallet in under 7 minutes!  WTG @georgem!

actually out of all my  wallets, ive noticed that the Spread qt , for whatever reason ,always syncs the fastest,by far.

You might want to reconsider. If it wasn't for eth I wouldn't have used a deamon at all. It's been about four years since I got into crypto, and I have never used a deamon if there was a qt-wallet.
Not that I can't, I am lazy. I want to click and not type. It will definitely be a deterring point for new comers though.

For lazy people who can't start/stop a local node manually,
the SpreadWallet will do it for you, lol.
(also, it will ship with a daemon included in a subfolder, for people who are too lazy to download it themselves, sigh)

The Spreadwallet aims to separate the Qt-Wallet from the Daemon, that's why in the future you will not see any new Qt-Wallet for Spreadcoin but only a plain daemon.

The Spreadwallet is like a complex GUI-Wallet for the Spreadcoin-Daemon (and other coins daemons).

Actually all I did was open the wallet and click on "sync all nodes".  I didn't put any parameters in.  I just used whatever was built into the existing conf file.

Ok, so it connected to the 24/7 online SPR seed node.
Syncing with that Node over SPV is fast indeed.

The idea is that in the future the spreadwallet will come packed together with the spreadcoin-daemon, and that you are supposed to sync with that local node primarily.
And if that isn't possible for you (for whatever reason, slow internet, no time to do a full sync, etc...) you can always use a SPV connection.

But you can always also ...connect with the upcoming Servicenodes themselves.  Grin

(but only if you run a spreadcoin-daemon, which is what will give you access to the servicenode-network)

Looks neat, thanks, Win 10 I believe?

Hey, to be honest, it's not a fully working wallet yet, but we are getting there and I like your enthusiasm.  Cheesy

Did you connect it with an external or local node?

Correct Windows 10 Pro - 64bit.

Actually all I did was open the wallet and click on "sync all nodes".  I didn't put any parameters in.  I just used whatever was built into the existing conf file.  Clearly, the other block chains didn't sync but my main concern was SPR.  Awesome looking product!  Ty

BTW, I am removing the VanityGen from the SpreadWallet.
It will not be embedded as an in-wallet-vanitygen anymore,
instead it will be embedded as an external module, like a "Worker" so to speak,
it will be listed like a "Node" in the upper right corner and be responsible for everything VanityGen related.
(both CPU/GPU and for multiple coins simultaneously of course. OF COURSE!)

I am very thankful to everybody who keeps mining (and trading) SPR, especially in this interim time (before I will be able to release the SpreadWallet, plus a new Spreadcoin-Daemon and more).

I take my hat off to you guys.
You are awesome!

I will never do anything that jeopardizes the value of SPR (as far as it is in my control),
and I will do everything I can to create applications that will add value to SPR (and only SPR)
by being unique, innovative and useful.

Stay tuned!

 Cool

@Patrons: sorry I got a little bit distracted today, please allow another 24 hours for the next update. Thanks.

Don't you think this could work well for everyone? Spreadcoin stays as you want it to develop; an economic fork goes down a different path and raises money for development work - you being a self-employed software engineer could end up being paid to work full time on a project which probably also benefits your work on Spreadcoin?

People around here get two for the price of one, and no need to choose between the red pill or the blue pill.

You must be trolling.

The economy around a coin and its development are one and the same.
The latter begets the first and vice versa.
How can they be separated?

This makes absolutely no sense to me.
Contemplating something like this (not that it makes any logical sense whatsoever) would be like showing the middlefinger to everybody who is holding, buying or mining SPR right now.

That's what baffles me about all the ICO-scams which work similarly to what you describe. They aren't even logical to begin with.
Let's buy coin A, so that we can fund coin B's development...?

I can't even....  Huh

Look, the value of a coin is what attracts miners, which is what gives a coin its cryptographical strength.
We are not gonna mess with this dynamic, that would be suicidal.

In my opinion DASH's track record regarding decentralization is really horrible,
and no amount of Buzzwords is going to offset that.

The SpreadWallet is not just a multiwallet, but a testbed for the research and integration of ServiceNodes.
That's the whole reason why it exists. It's not like I had this random urge to create a multiwallet.
No, the design of the SpreadWallet is intentional because it enables ServiceNodes as the next step.

This should get more clear the further I progress with its development.

I have no opinion for or against creating another Fork, anyone is free to create any fork of any coin any time.
Just don't confuse people around here.
It's a mess anyway, and as I said repeatedly I will need to clean quite a few things up or newcomers will be lost.

So expect some change.

Like I said, not rushing into anything.

To be honest, I don't think a slightly different version of Spreadcoin is what I've got in mind.

Looking at the spreadwallet, it looks like a great multi-wallet. But - you could be running LTC and the Spreadwallet and you'd have a hard time (for now and from what I can tell so far) knowing if you're an LTC project or an SPR project.

I'm also thinking of a fork in terms of economic fork vs. technical fork. Rightly or wrongly, DASH Evolution seems to have a lot of the features I described many months before Evolution was announced - so I'm wondering why not just fork DASH, then remove some of the DASH features, possibly look at swapping out x11 for SpreadX and then distribute coins to SPR holders.

This would solve an issue with spending months upgrading Spread from the 0.8 Bitcoin codebase.

I also did propose last year that a % of Spreadcoin coinbase rewards going to development funding. That was not universally liked, but it did have a lot of support. But now I see that Decred have this model and the value of their project has rocketed enabling them to spend more on dev work, I'm thinking this issue is back on the table with an economic fork.

DSDN is really something I want to see happen in 2017 or soon after. So I think a new path might be the most appropriate way to achieve that.

Anyway. I'm not going to rush into anything for quite a while. This is quite a radical change, so it's probably best to just let some thinking time pass.

This has been the official spreadcoin thread for quite some time now.

I must be failing to express myself clearly. I'll try again (my father would say, in his inimitable unreconstructed style,  “If a man doesn’t understand, he hasn’t been told properly.”)

The term “official” pertains to utterances of a duly constituted officer of a legally recognised entity. It has no meaningful semantics outside a legally-recognised organisation with a formalised hierarchy of control.

I'm curious to know what attribute(s) of this particular bitcointalk thread prompt you to misperceive it as “the official spreadcoin thread” as opposed to, say, the main thread on spreadcointalk - isn't that also the “official” Spreadcoin thread on the “official” Spreadcoin discussion board?

I find myself wondering whether I should be reading it instead as “officious”. It would seem to be a more plausible interpretation.

Cheers

Graham

About 12 months ago you said that you didn't have access to Mr Spread's code with the original masternode implementation. Have you found it now?

Are you just making stuff up now?

BTW...

How are the crowncoin whitepapers coming along?

I heard you guys ran into a forking problem...
... you do sound a little bit more pissed than usual...

Published last week.

Me and Coins101 asked you if you would be aversed to us doing some testing with the old Mr Spread wallet to see if we could get a better understanding of how it worked and also find something for the community to engage with during a period where people were complaining about missed deadlines.  We wanted to extend our knowledge a little and also take a little pressure off you (which you said at the time you were feeling).  At the time, you said that you couldn't provide us with Mr Spread's code.  Maybe I misunderstood something but I'm certainly not making stuff up.
