Wow... that is f'ing legit!
This is only a guess, but I'd be willing to bet there's more to this Blocknet <---> Ethereum relationship than just Dan being the point of contact for Ethereum, Boston.
Simply put, Ethereum's DApp network and BlockNet's xbridge (decentralised cross-chain communication) would be a perfect marriage. If this is the case, it would be fantastically beneficial for both projects.
I suppose time will tell.

While it offers the use of different blockchains, the Blocknet is not a wallet. “The Blocknet enables you to use the technologies of a different blockchain from the one your wallet is on,” Culwick told CCN. “It also enables third party apps to utilize any given selection of blockchains’ services.

The Decentralised Exchange code is now available for early alpha testing!
This is basic functionality.
An order book is not yet available and it's only implemented in XC and BitSwift wallets.
But download them from Dan's nightly/on-demand build URL (http://builds.xcurrency.co:8888/) and play around with something huge: a truly decentralised exchange!
P.S. It doesn't do upnp yet, so if you can't configure your router as per the readme, don't bother.
Will compete with NXT Asset Exchange?
No it won't. The NXT asset exchange is a colored-coins-type technology, whereas on the Blocknet's DX, coins are exchanged directly without the use of any mediating "colored" layer. The Blocknet's tech is inter-blockchain, whereas trading of colored coins takes place on a single blockchain.
If you're looking for a competitor to the NXT asset exchange that enables trading different coins via a colored layer, HZxchange is worth looking at.

Yup. But not soon. There are other layers that would need to come first.
