Ok then, I think this will be a good compromise.  It's bright, so it contrasts with the 'dark' theme, it's highly professional, well made and incredibly FRIENDLY!

Now don't tell me that's not the best of the bunch!

in the same vain, all these banks have colorful logos along with their names

3 in that graphic alone are black and white, and a number more monotone... as is nike, north face, adidas, and countless others. Monochrome is clean hits hard where branding is needed. Colors are used when brick and mortar needs to stick out, or trucks, or billboards etc.

I pretty much agree, color can be used, but unless it is a true professional creating it, I would wager that a majority of the time a monochrome version based on the same idea will look better.

More importantly, that list of logos most likely cost the company at least $25,000, some probably north of $100,000 to do. You have to keep in mind how much A/B testing, focus groups, etc go into it for those big brands. I'm confident I could put together a list of logos that are more in the league of what we're doing here (not spending $25,000 on a logo) and overwhelmingly the more simplistic color schemes or black/white/grey would beat out the colorful ones.

I can see that, but going back to the logo I'm pushing, lol, I can see being monotone with it, but in different colors depending on if it's for the coin, send or dgw

this only has one color.  Can be done in any color really.

There seems to be a constant debate whether the coin should appear cool and rebellious, or it should appear conventionally appealing and harmless.  Most people can see it as both.  Maybe we should split the difference and choose a color scheme/logo that appears evil and good, a yin/yang, or two-sided coin.  I don't know if that would be possible or appealing, but just thinking out loud.

I really do not understand why this black and white logo is getting such support. The function of a logo is to either be unique or to intimate an aspect/quality of the entity it symbolizes (or perhaps both). This logo does neither. It's just a D displayed via a modern font design with nothing extraneous in the image. And that is "professional?"

I still have  soft spot for this one because of the potential to brand all the new technologies Evan develops with this kind of logo/different color combos.  If a person darksends by clicking a button on the wallet that looks like that, and they see the same logo later for other things, it'll eventually bring them back to Darkcoin, the originator.  Like free advertisement.  Not sure that can be required, but if it can, it'd be awesome!  This person made variations of the logo and I think they'd be willing to refine it.  I also like that it's colorful which contrasts the Dark name and pulls away from any illicit image the name might create.

I do like the sleekness of the grey design with the D, but it's really not that memorable to me???  It doesn't stand out beyond being sleek.

I'm going to be honest, and I apologize to the designer if I offend you, but that does not look as professional as it could. It's not a bad concept, it just is not polished.

As for the idea of branding new tech based on the same scheme, that really could be done with any of the other designs, it just was already done for this one.

Professional and brandable are the two biggest criteria we need to focus on. Look at vertcoin, it is a textbook example of the design we should be aiming for. I don't care if the design is "boring" or bland, as long as it looks professional, it doesn't matter.

The downside in terms of user engagement and trust of an unprofessional logo is 10x more than the upside potential of a fun or unique logo in terms of getting new viewers interested.

There can't be any discussion - these are all too colourful. The one that Evan really liked is definitely the slickest one. It's really sharp and aggressive and looks amazingly professional.
Too colorful? There are only 2 colors on logos showed above. Orange and gray ; blue and black. I don't think it is too colorful  Smiley

You're right it's not that bad. Of course this is the one I'm taking about.

It struck me right away as being the perfect mix of style and substance. It definitely looks like something I would use regularly to make payments. I can imagine myself saying "do you take darkcoin?" in any store in the future with a logo like that. Anyways that's my opinion of course.

If the community/devs decided on a color palette, it could be shaded as such.
