Do you have windows on your pc/laptop? I recommend paymetheus windows wallet. Very easy installation process. Don't forget to save seed words.

Apparently there is also a version available for mac, is this the same like for windows?

That's a hybrid wallet. Only the blockchain and interface are online. The keys and TX of your coins are stored on your pc.
