Okay, here we go....

I had an odd problem this morning upgrading the client.
After upgrading the client I could not get it to sync past block 4031, no matter what I did. This applied to both the UNIX and Windows versions.
But after a bit of trial and error I managed to get it to work and Sync completely.

The result of this is that what you should not do, is remove the old blockchain info from the client folder.

I'll list the steps that you should do.

1. Keep a copy of the older client in case you need to go back to it if everything fails to work (new client will not read the old wallet.dat right).
2. Make a proper backup of your wallet.dat and export your privkeys before closing the client down.
3. Backup your whole Ecurrency folder for safety (inc Blockchain info)
4. Install the new client
5. Start the new client with the -rescan  option for UNIX Just start the client for Windows, it should do a rescan automatically
6. wait till complete
7. import your privkeys

And there you are, you should now have the whole blockchain synced and your previous balances listed to the new addresses.

Hope this is helpful to you all out there struggling.

If there are any glaring errors in this please tell me so I can edit this.

Cryptcollector

Quick addition to the above

Just in case you find yourself in a situation that you do not have the blockchain, for the moment I have made a ZIP of it from my own installation on the Windows Client.

The hard forked new E-Currency client can be found here, as Adaryian has mentioned.

https://github.com/Adaryian/E-Currency/releases

My Zipped Blockchain can be found here:

http://benassi.co.uk/Ecurrency.zip

Just drop the extracted contents into the .ecurrency folder on NIX or into your C:\users\[PROFILE]\AppData\roaming\Ecurrency on Windows.
The contents also has a working conf file within it, just remember to change the rpcpassword and rpcuser values.

I have not tested the blockchain from the windows machine on a NIX system, but have successfully done so on other coins in the past, so I'm confident it will work. If not I can arrange for the NIX version to be put up also. just PM me if you have a problem, I'm happy to help.

That's much better than a coin swap. I would rather import keys than miss out on a swap I didn't hear about. Will there ever come a time when it will no longer be possible to import old keys?

No.

As long as an old address has a valid transaction, that same transaction will still be valid on the new fork.

The base58 encoding change doesn't change any coin values, etc. It only changes the way the addresses are generated, and the protocol will prevent you from sending to an address in the new protocol. Hence the need to import keys.

Correct.  Or, I concur.

The hard fork is now in effect.

You will need to update your clients before block number #32256.

You will need to dumpprivkey to any and all addresses and importprivkey into the new client once it has been downloaded.  (My suggestion is to start now, as miners will still have a trickling amount of ISO coming in.)

All the pools should run the same, though P2Pool will need an update for the block spacing.  I'll message rav3n_pl about that.

On a nix box, you will need to stop the client.  Remove the client, though you can still keep your ecurrency.conf file, but remove every other reminisce of E-Currency from your nix box, other than your backup wallet.dat of course.

You'll need to visit our Github: https://github.com/Adaryian/E-Currency

Clone the new E-Currency client and start it up.  After it has started you can then importprivkey to your other addresses.

----

The reason for this, is because of the address change from it starting with a '1' to now an 'E' -- on top of that the block spacing is 3 minutes now versus the 10 minutes it was before.

Windows users will be temporarily effected though no coins should be lost granted it's before the block #32256 as it'll still be apart of the blockchain until then meaning that once the new Windows client has been you'll follow the same steps more or less as linux.  Though you'll have an interface you'll simply just go to the console and type in importprivkey [PrivkeyGoesHere] and it'll have the same effect.  Again, you'll still need to follow the instructions the same as a nix box.  You'll need to backup your wallet.dat and be sure that you have already dumpprivkey to all your account addresses before upgrading.  (I'll still leave the old client available for the next few months for people who maybe coming back.)

The only thing of E-Currency that should remain even on a Windows box is going to be your ecurrency.conf as that wouldn't need to be changed.  Install/Run the new version of E-Currency, enjoy the new splash screen Tongue and then start importing those private keys and updating the pools you mine at with your new 'E' starting address!

Feel free to add to this, if I perhaps have forgotten something.. or something needs to be edited as this is my first hard fork for a crypto-currency.  So, by no means am I promising everything will go off without any issues.   If you have issues, please respond into this thread so we can figure the solution out for you.  I may not be able to answer it right away but the programmers will be able to possibly shed light on the subject.

Sorry for the long winded message, however it is important everyone reads this, so that they upgrade their clients ASAP.   The Windows client will be out soon and I'll update the front page with it.  I'll be removing the current one until the new one is released so nobody else can get the old E-Currency for Windows until the new one is out.

Almost 7TH/s, not bad as resurrection Tongue

Not bad at all!

We're working hard to get on more exchanges.  We do need help from everyone mining to get on these exchanges.  If we can prove this coin is worthy of what it is and what it will become, we will definitely get what we have all worked so hard for.

Please do what you can to get the word out.  Vote on exchanges.  Take some time to help YOUR investment.  You are the one paying your electricity bill and if you're mining ISO, then you have a stake and share in the future of the coin.

It's your money.  Make it worth your while and help!

Thanks,
Adaryian

When doing code development, I tend to not say much.

Working to make the coin hard fork at a certain block - having issues with the scope of some of our variable declarations.

I'll post here more often in order to be more transparent.

Thanks.

Hey, ncsupanda,

Wasn't meaning the Dev team, just that there doesn't seem to be that many others in here commenting...

And yes Adaryian, I get that, I'm just a little enthusiastic that's all  Grin

I'm going to concentrate on my pools for a bit until the new wallet has been distributed, then ill be back to help promote this fine coin Smiley

Cheers!

Just quiet, as I want people to know about ISO and E-Currency.  But it's better to wait until the new release is out and has been hard forked.  Much easier to update 20 clients than to update 100 or 1000. Smiley

On top of all that, as ncsupanda has said too.
