Greetings, friends at Monacoin! As Komodo Platform has been working around the clock to fine-tune the multiple GUI's that are the face of our Agama multiwallet and BarterDEX atomic swap protocols, there have obviously been many bugs found and many debugged. However, one bug in particular was found not only in our Agama GUI wallet, but also in the zcash4mac GUI swing wallet. It is a simple bug, but it warrants your attention. This is a potential money cost bug, and as a Bitcoin-protocol cryptocurrency, your GUI wallet(s) may be susceptible. We are reaching out directly to the developers and communities of the 60+ coins featured on Agama and BarterDEX as the bug may have a direct impact on you (via your own wallet).

watchonly-GUI bug: 'watchonly' addresses appearing as your own in GUI wallet; users could potentially send funds to the address, unaware it is not theirs or available for withdrawal. You can import and it becomes a 'watchonly' address. The GUI will display the address as yours, add its funds to your balance, and accept deposits, but cannot be withdrawn. This could be a normal address, my address, a p2sh address, satoshi's address, etc. This can be confusing to an end-user and will lead to many headaches for the developer, as is always the case with misplaced funds.

FOUND: in Komodo Platform's Agama multiwallet (fixed) and zcash4mac GUI swing wallet (@jl777B: "newest QT wallet seems ok about watch only, but not sure of older and when it was fixed")

ex. @grewalsatinder found the bug in his zcash swing wallet: https://i.imgur.com/sVd0QTL.png

Quote from: jl777B
"satinder used zcash4mac, ie. the zcash osx GUI, not ours... the assumption is no GUI out there properly handles watch only addresses, until proven that they do... agama also had this bug, which we found and fixed, so it seems a very common bug to have"

SOLUTION: For the 'watchonly' address or any address not yours, the value 'ismine' returns false. Any such address gets filtered out.

QUESTIONS:
  • How does your recommended GUI deal with watchonly addresses?
  • Does your GUI display watchonly addresses as different than actual addresses in the wallet?

We need to experiment a bit to see which approach gets a better response triggering the bug. People WILL lose money if they send funds to a watchonly address.

Quote from: jl777B
"the t3 addresses in the 'Own Addresses' column! and they absolutely cant be as they are p2sh addresses. it is clear proof that the bug is very real and anybody that understands a p2sh address will understand it cant be something in your wallet. it is usually a multisig address, so only if it is a 1of1 multisig (possible but very silly) can you have a p2sh address that is spendable, but the wallet wont even know it... normal addresses can also be watchonly, which makes this even worse. in that case it would appear in the list of addresses just like all the others. even if you are able to spot p2sh addresses visually, it wont be enough"

We want to spread awareness and facilitate discussion of this bug to minimize the impact.

Of course - we can always talk about how you can use BarterDEX today to trade Monacoin via atomic swap directly with your peers, through our beta GUI and without downloading the entire blockchain ; ) That is how we found the bug, afterall.

Stay safe,
Jay

Monacoin needs to get listed on another exchange than Bittrex. 0.2 fee if you want to withdraw, they are just stealing their custumers.

OMG yeah.  I just realize how much I spend on the fees.   Imagine if Monacoin was at $50 and they still charge .2.   Only benefits people withdrawing large amounts.

could be a while as much as I like MONA its not an LTC yet.  LTC is on 14 plus large exchanges while MONA is on two. Its pretty much where they want it around 2000 yen ( $18 USD) which makes it a fun coin for night on the town eating and or shopping. BTC is still used as the larger store of value coin.

If we get a large Korean exchange, we are at 50$ in a matter of weeks.
Koreans buy any listed coin like crazy, check Dash for instance.

Oh yeh if they get listed on a Korean exchange it will double..

I noticed that too who ever mentioned its like a haven. I have been using it as that many times and then just sell x amount whenever I want to invest some where else for a few days / weeks

It can still easily move $2 up or down

Let's keep a cordial tone on this thread.

We all reckon that MONA is becoming increasingly visible in Japan and that should soon be reflected in its value.
As to when and how much, nobody knows and everybody is free to post its own view.

I also believe that MONA has the potential of becoming the Litecoin of Japan. Its tech is as solid as LTC. Its network is less developed but it could grow very fast in Japan. That's why my target is 50$ by mid-2018 and a long term target of 100$

i dont think it will reach 100$ , monacoin, i think , maybe im wrong, is supposed to be easily spendable. Do you want to buy a coin that cost 100$ ? but this is crypto , everything can happen
If it reaches $100, why would that make it not easily spendable? I bought bitcoin at 2000 USD and I bought some at 11 000 USD, because I believe in it and I believe that more people will come later and buy so the price will go higher and higher. So it doesn't make sense to say that people will stop buying if the price will be 100 USD.
Just look at Litecoin. I remember not too long ago when the price was 60 USD, ok that is under 100 but now it is 300 USD and people keep buying.

They might not even want it on other exchanges as they already have Zaif MONA/JPY MONA/BTC

Still I keep it as a long term prospect because this is the wild wild west of crypto and demand from surrounding countries could push this wonderful coin into much higher status.

I agree with the analysis, for me MONA is a long term runner and will go to more exchanges, however for its value, to be used in Japan, 5000 yen or 10000 yen per unit would be reasonable and it will remain under the 100$ mark.

I believe Cardano is a huge factor. Suddenly theres a japanese ETH and its already worth more than Monacoin in such a short time. This must really bug the Mona team Smiley

Another huge factor i see for gains is that Mona (which is the japanese Bitcoin) is actually a safe heaven even for Bitcoin investors because it completely eliminates the risk of government oppression from US and china, which might come to Bitcoin in the future. Already when Bitcoin crashed in the past, and all Altcoins went down with Bitcoin, MonaCoin would always stay at their level, sometimes even being the only green coin in Coinmarketcap.

Indeed, a higher price doesn't mean that MONA won't be used as mean of payment. You can send fractions of it and it's much cheaper / faster  than BTC for remittances.

MONA can really benefit from a rising awareness of Japanese people on crypto and from those who think they missed their chance with BTC.
It has a great tech. You can buy stuff online with it and you can buy MONA against fiat at Japanese exchanges. This is a huge plus for an alt.
Finally, I like the fact that cryptos are now legal in Japan.
In case some major country passes a tough law against cryptos, investors should regard Japan and its number one Altcoin MONA as a safe heaven.

What are your expectations for Monacoin in the short / mid term? I suppose that we are at the beginning of a huge bull run on altcoins. Daily there are huge amounts of money streaming into crypto, and most of those money is still parked in BTC, I suppose after the forks people will look where to realize their profits with, Mona will surely not be left out by this.

uh oh must have a know it all Yankee and even worse a grammar Nazi...  ok well then we will call it my personal targets and hey guess what, every one was met.. yep made thousands and thousands of $$$ off of a .45 coin 20 bagger plus.  If you didnt or of you did who cares not going to argue with a negative piss ass over comas and inability to comprehend simple social media conversations on a very successful cryptocurrency.
lol I'm just trying to keep people from spreading misinformation because there is a lot of misinformation going around in the English-speaking world on Monacoin. Like those "ATMs" people keep talking about? Those were never physical ATMs, those were people/businesses who signed up on Zaif to act as brokers for exchanging currencies without needing the end user to register or show ID - and this platform had to shutdown because Japanese law would have required them all to register as exchanges with the government.

I am speaking for me but I was in communication with Japanese consumers a retailer and event host in Tokyo first week of October. If you see a post from me Ive done my homework. I don't spin up stories its as factual as I can get it. If you're late you're late.

The Akihabara campaign downtown Tokyo , objective mas media exposure of Monacoin as something much more than a gaming coin.

https://monapo.com/lp/akiba2017/

translated

From October 25th to 31st, 2017, Monacoin promotion video will be aired on Akihabara UDX and Akihabara Radio Kaikan 's large display
!
Besides, computer shop arc and or sticker you get in's
lots to be fun! Please check with askmona for details .

Akihabara Radio Hall ... 1 hour to 4 times a day 56 times 10 pm from 8 am
Akihabara UDX ... 1 hour to 11 pm from 2:00 times a day 26 times the morning 9
during the period, computer shop arc 's If you shop at the original sticker will be given!

............

was a lot of fun

That was just one guy who goes by the name Tanaka (田中) who commissioned a promotional video from his friend for this, rented ad space in the two locations, and worked something out with Ark to advertise. Lots of people cooperated and were looking forward to it, but the campaign itself wasn't "targeting" anything with regard to Monacoin price like you're making it out to be. Also I don't know if you missed commas in your first sentence, or if English isn't your first language - either way it would be nice if you'd post these "communications" you had with said retailer and event host. I'm especially curious about this "retailers think of it as a $10 bill" that you didn't enlighten us on at all.

FYI, I'm the one who did a legitimate translation (and not the google translate thing you seem to have posted) for this back in October, even (so I'm hardly "late"): http://askmona.org/5563?n=1000#res_280 (bitcointalk: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.23033264)

Good Morning, someone can help-me?

I'm search a lot but not sucess, don't found topic from ccminer

I'm have 2x 1060 and 2 1070 using Simplemining.

I config the miner to use lyra2rev2, but don't work, get error.
Already checked my worker, and lines configuration a milion times.

Help-me?

You should use the Monacoin community-maintained miner: https://github.com/Nanashi-Meiyo-Meijin/ccminer

The error you posted shows an issue with some shell script, likely because of the ccminer you're using might have different run procedures, so I can't help you much there.
