It would be nice if you had a means for breaking up these extended rounds that didn't involve coin changing. We spent ~36 minutes on other coins yesterday and in switching to those for 5-10 minutes at a time we experienced 10 round transitions. For people using old cgminer and having smoother transitions this means maybe 5 minutes of total dead time from the transitions themselves plus 30 something minutes of mining coins half as profitable which would mean maybe a percent and a half of forgone profit. For people using a recent version of cgminer or experiencing worse issues with disconnects on transitions this would mean roughly 50 minutes of mining time spent on fail over plus a couple minutes of dead time which could have an impact of around 2.5% on the day, depending on the assumptions we're making about the fail over choices.
These aren't huge amounts and I imagine that it might be a bit of a pain to implement this sort of fix. A few percent improvement on the highest paying days is nothing to scoff at though, especially once you've dealt with some of the bigger issues at hand.
This is on the todo list for sure. It was in my original plans pre launch (or at least I had a note about the potential for long rounds causing issues), but its never really come to light until now. We'll look at implementing something when we can.
