I think it's applied on any type of vehicle that has a space to carry goods, even people

For cars it's much more difficult i think

You would be surprised to see how far ahead research is when it comes to this,i think we will have mass autonomous vehicles much sooner than we thought,so thats why this project is very promising.
It is cutting edge technology and very demanding project but you gotta aim high, and if you work hard success will come.

If youn rent your "automaton" to do tasks, will it have some sort of Insurance? Or is this Insurance non related to this?

In cars yes, but drones will have limited battery supply. Not sure it would be cost effective
