Hello all.
I am trying to understand the M7 algo used by cryptonite. The wiki page says it's not memory hard? What exactly does that mean, please?
Is it bounded by memory bandwidth (like Equihash) or ability to massively "parallelise" the work?
If it's the former, then we can simultaneously mine with CPU cores, right? If it's the latter, then it's not ASIC-resistant, no?

Quick question for everybody: Account tree pruning.

http://cryptonite.info/wiki/index.php?title=Account_tree_pruning

Cryptonite does NOT make use of that technique yet - I think it would be a very good idea though. But implementing it sounds like something causing a hard-fork.
What do you guys think about this? IF we were to implement it, I'd rather do it sooner than later ...

My opinion about pruning: I think it's great. Should be just a small fraction of a percent but >0. So that it's neglegible for everyday use but over time clears up the account DB.

And re: Block explorer
Do we have control over the cryptonite.info domain by now? I'd like to reactivate the original explorer.cryptonite.info - e.g. by pointing it to the current explorer or hosting a copy on the original webspace. Whatever works best. Because I feel it's time now to have everything look more official -> use official names&domains.

Wallet help on Linux.

I am running KDE Neon running Ubuntu 16.04 on the back end, and for the life of me I cannot get the wallet to compile.

For the past few weeks I have been running the Win-qt version in Wine as a stop gap, or have to go to my win machine running Win10.

I have seen and tried a few guides but still a no go, but would really like to get there.  It appears that the problem is with the libraries being to new on 16.04, and that I should be starting with 14.04.

Please, any thoughts comments or links to help would be appreciated.

What can I do with non-syn wallet after XCN-blockchain-full-20170609 unpack?

I don't understand the question.  Do you mean the wallet still won't sync?  It takes a long time on my machines, and that is even XCN-blockchain downloaded and unpacked.

If you are waiting for sync try adding peers, as this could speed things up.  Look at the list of peers on this page http://xcn-explorer.selektion21.de/?page=peers

Then add each one using the debug command line like this:

Code:
addnode 62.75.210.104 add

That is how I did it... I think there is a better way using a config, but that I haven't done yet.

BUT... it still takes some time to complete even with peers in my experience.  I would say about 2-4 hours.

Cryptonite Paper Wallet is now available!
Win 50 XCN!
(see way below)

tl;dr - Download here, run it in a browser on a secure machine, choose Cryptonite, choose wallet type(paper, BIP38 encrypted, brain, bulk), print.

If you like cold storage, you are going to love a paper wallet!  Working with the maintainer of WalletGenerator.net I was able to create a paper wallet for Cryptonite!

While it isn't live(yet) on WalletGenerator.net, a downloadable version with Cryptonite is.  I have forked it off their current version and made a pull request, so it should be live 'someday'(his words not mine) on their page, but this version will be available until then.

Instructions:
  • Download the zip file
  • Unzip
  • Open the index.html file on a secure machine
  • Wiggle your mouse around
  • Select Cryptonite from the drop down at the top
  • Select Paper(w/BIP38 or w/o), Bulk, or Brain
  • Print

Couple of things to remember/do:
  • RTFM - The index.html has instructions and information.
  • Try it first with some small amounts.
  • Check a chain explorer to validate if coins are present in the wallet.
  • Unless it is BIP38 encrypted, anyone that finds your paper wallet can access steal all of your coin.
  • Brain and BIP38 may require that you come back to this same index.html to recover your (WIF)private key. (could be wrong on this)
  • Once a paper wallet is imported to a live wallet, and any coins spent, the paper wallet will be empty.
  • Best to make a new paper wallet and transfer funds there if it has been imported into a live wallet.
  • They make great gifts!

Learn about it!
Google 'paper wallet bitcoin', or check out the links below.  You will get deeper insight into how crypto really works, and learn how paper wallets can be a HODL'rs best friend.

That's all I got...  Try it out, and let me know what you think.

How to win 50 XCN:

Be the first one to tweet a pic of you holding a printed Cryptonite paper wallet.

Rules:
  • Tweet with the earliest timestamp wins
  • Paper wallet must be created from the wallet generator in this post(not just your doodles of your keys)
  • 50 xcn for the winning tweet, from my personal account
  • Tweet must contain the following: a link to this post, hashtags: #Cryptonite #XCN $XCN #paperwallet
  • proof of printing - an image of you with the printed wallet (don't use the wallet you fool, you just shared it with everyone!)
  • PM me the tweet
  • No nudes, this is a family coin... It's up to you really... I don't really mind either way  Shocked
  • This is a unofficial thingy I am doing, not the devs. All on me, because Cryptonite paper wallets rock!

i can not make my gpu-s to make more than 10-11 mh. this is frustating,
I mine on my exchange wallet, i do not have a local one. i keep most of my money spread on exchanges for opportunities, i am a trader.

You don't need to keep funds on that wallet, you only need it to solomine. Bonus is that you actually support the network by running a full node + help to keep mining more decentralized. Ocminers pool has most of the network hashrate, it is just a matter of time when it gets ddos'ed again.

That 10-11MH, are you seeing that on your miner window? Or is that what pool reports?

This is not right.
With 10 nvidia 1070 i get 86.36 mh on suprnova now.
I mined for last 3 days with around 110. Should be 150-160, it is not.

If I were you I would solomine, you have about 1% of network so you should find ~1% of blocks. Need to run synched wallet unlocked, system clock on time and reliable network connection.

I know i can have 1% on current hashrate.
But i can not make my gpu-s to make more than 10-11 mh. this is frustating,

again, i will ask if anyone can make my 1070 to mine with 16mh? will be a reward, of course. pm me.

I'm not a miner, i am a trader and i bought couple of nvidia gpu-s. To mine xcn, i like this coin.
I will swich them to mine eth, "private miners" do not really work on big networks.
I still sustain xcn, i've already paid for listing on nova, and being active on community and exchanges, but as a trader, not as a miner.
If anyone can make my 1070 to mine xcn with 16mh, pm me. I know how to pay a reward.
