So ... what is this random beeping all about from the S3's?

Every now and then I hear a beep, not sure if it's always from the same miner ... and neither of them ever switch over to a fall-back pool, so connectivity seems OK.

It's just a single beep, so contact with the pool/internet doesn't seem to have been lost.

out of four that I have there are three "beepers" and one "silent type" that beeps only when restarted.
Among beepers, two beep only once in a while (like once or twice a day) and the last one beeps once in a hour.

I don't think anyone has nailed it down yet.  There have been some theories ranging from expired DHCP leases to HW errors causing it, but nothing concrete.  At this point, I just accept it as them telling me they're still working.  Now, if Bitmain releases an update that fixes it, I'll be constantly wondering if they're still working properly Smiley

I want to report in on my findings, running a pair of S3.
One gets consistent 430GH over 1 day, 6 hours.  Default clock speed
The other one gets consistent 410 GH over 1 day, 6 hours.  Default clock speed

I've rebooted the slower one several times, and all chips show OK status.  They are on independent power supplies.  Only one miner per 700W power supply.

Only upside is temperature is consistently below 40.

did you try to ssh into it and change to 212.5 (as philipma did)?
(comment on 218.75 with # and uncomment 212.5)

Try user name Wolframio.1 instead of Wolframio.worker1

Very dumb recommendations.  Wolframio.worker1 is right.

Overclocking:

I am getting 465GH at 237.5mhz with 0.6% hardware error (not exactly 478Gh) and 441GH at default 218.75mhz
Did anybody had a situation when at 225mhz S3 performed better than at 237.5, providing that miner is overclockable in principle?

well mine were so bad at 225 or 237.  I quickly gave up.  the 212.5 is now giving me  429 each with almost no errors .001%  what is interesting is that same 429 on my gui and my m's ant monitor is about 433-435 at btcguild.

Since btcguild pays me that seems like a good thing

I made an interesting observation: at the default frequency, you get high GH numbers first, then numbers drift down to steady level. Paradoxically, when overclocked, numbers are awful at first, then slowly (over an hour) drift up. Perhaps, you did not wait long enough. I almost did as well, but noticed that my 5s hash was always much higher than average, then average was drifting up continuously.

I've noticed consistently higher hash-rates at the pool as well.  I won't complain, but it makes me wonder.

Now 1 miner start!!

I have change the DNS server (8.8.8.Cool

I have also change the default IP!!

Why the oder miner doesn't start?? is linked in the same way!!

P.S: The password of the miner?? If some one want to mine with my worker it's not a problem!!  Grin Grin

look at this pair of miners  close but a little different.  sometimes a pool only wants 1 miner at 1 worker

the second part is on btcguild you have to add the workers name it is not automatically added

so I added philipma1957_btc1  and philipma1957_btc2 on the btcguild website under workers.  I also set them at 256 speed .

I bought three Antminer S3 and so have three coupons worth 0.074 BTC each. Will I be able to apply all of them to the purchase of one more device, or is it a one-coupon-per-purchase deal?

No one knows, but based on the past .074 per 1 machine.

The current S3 SW Ver is CGMiner 3.12.0_7.0.0.3, has anybody tried Kano's CGMiner 4.3.2a ver or is this a non-starter?

I can see that it is a non-starter as I went in and looked at some of the files such as the cgminer.lua files and see a big difference. Hoping for the easy answer.

what do you mean-linked in the same way. Two miners cannot have the same ip on your LAN.
