Correct, no coupons.  They did $22,000,000 the first day.  I don't think we will be seeing coupons for a while.

You mentioned that number before. I don't necessarily doubt it, but where did you come up with it?

The USD price per unit when they went on sale was about $480. So if they grossed $22 million the first day, that's nearly 46 thousand units. Rounding up to 500 GH/s per unit, that's about 22 petahash.

That seems high to me. Maybe this market is bigger than I thought. Or maybe my math is wrong.

Someone had the btc address bitmain was apparently using to consolidate the purchases.  I watched it the evening of the first day they opened up sales.  Was actually looking for my order but never found it.  Most transfers were multiples of .75 though so I would guess it was legit.  But I don't remember where I saw it.  If it was here or reddit.

Yeah...I saw it too...BUT it HAS already like 17,000 BTC prior to the starting of the sale...Their batch 1 was probably 1500-2500 units...I guess...

Could very well be. I only saw it that evening. Assumed it was all new.

Umm...I was under the impression that Bitmain had a minimum order quantity of TWO S3's per order. If you were looking at their chain Most transfers should have been at least 1.5 BTC, why would they break it down on transfer?

Hello Everyone,
I am new to the mining community, started mining with S1 just a month ago.
Antminer S3 looks very promising machine, and will definitely order a couple.
I was wondering if you have any coupons to share?
Thank you.

I don't think there are any S3 coupons available yet, feel free to correct me.  Well, I didn't have any on my Bitmain account!  We would all have liked a coupon to use for our own purchase.  If you want an S3 (min two per order), you should go ahead and place an order.

Thank you, for your advice. The S3 offer is good enough, even without the use of a coupon.
I will definitely go ahead and order two.

Is everyone in agreement that the EVGA 1300 will safely power two S3's overclocked?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438011&cm_re=evga_1300-_-17-438-011-_-Product

It should.  At 80% load (20% headroom), the SuperNOVA 1300 G2 could theoretically support two OC'd S3s up to 520WDC each (1300WDC*80%/2)which equates to 578WAC at the wall at 90% efficiency.  I think two CX750M is a better deal (also currently with a rebate) at the Egg.  It offers additional headroom (14.5% more) and the flexibility of having an independent PSU for each OC'd S3.

I like the idea of two CX750M's for two S3's instead of a single PSU. It removes the PSU as a single point of failure. Also I'm deploying at a data center where we have two power inputs. Having separate power supplies allows me to spread the load.

Amazon has the CX750M for $69.99 (prime), which is a better price than NewEgg. Of course NewEgg accepts BTC now. I haven't been through the process, so I don't know how they compute the price, or if they offer a discount for using BTC.

The CX750M has an 80 Plus Bronze rating compared to the SuperNOVA 1300's gold. Assuming the rating is accurate, that just means that the SuperNova has higher efficiency right?

Does anyone have any negatives to going with two CX750M units?

Are you claiming 5V and 3.3V draw is assumed to be only 10 watts these days?

No, what I claim is that most of the 1000W power supplys are in fact designed to deliver at least the rated number of watts on the 12V rails.

See this example:

Corsair RM1000 Fully Modular Power Supply

12V: 83.3A = 1000W
5V : 25A
3.3V: 25A

The power supplies are further designed with safety margins, so they do not break when utilizing full capacity, and most will in fact allow you to pull more than the rated amps on the 12V rails continuously.

Let the chips fall where they may.

Specs claim 366W at the wall which translates to no more than 330W of 12V power per device.

As most decent 1000W supplies are able to continously provide atleast 990W of 12V power, you should be fine with 3 at standard settings.

Are you claiming 5V and 3.3V draw is assumed to be only 10 watts these days?

You really need to check what the rated 12V output is for the supply in question. Standby Power (5V, 2A) alone will have a rating of 10W.

The First 1000W power supply listed on amazon does not list that info in the technical description, but does say it complies with the EPS 2.92 standard. That Standard does not actually cover 1000W power supplies, but a 950W configuration is listed on page 28.

5 12V rails are listed, each supplying no more than 18 amps (and at least 16 amps). One of the notes is that "Maximum combined current for the 12 V outputs shall be 76 A" -> 912W.

If we assume a 1000W supply will have 6 rails, (76A/5~=15amps/rail ->x6=90amps total) -> 1080 W

Hmm, looking at lower wattage supplies (like the 800W configuration), they still have 5 rails, but a lower maximum combined output. 5railsx18Amps/rail=90Amps (1080W)
5railsx16Amps/rail=80Amps -> 960W

960W/3=320W<366W

Thats true, but I wouldnt want to be on the other side of that, "falsifying information on an import into the country".   Undecided

"Data processing unit" that's not falsification.

Bitmain only sells at http://www.bitmaintech.com  Ebay, Amazon, craigslist, backpages, any other online local sales page, those are all done by someone who is reselling Bitcoin Miners!

Good Luck!!

Hi Community

I am new to bitcoin mining and want to order the S3 myself, I have a Radeon 5970 and after reading the threads see it is pointless to Bitcoin mine with it (Delivers 320mh/s).

Can anyone confirm if seller bitmain.antminer on ebay showing the item location/factory based in Shenzhen China is  Bitmaintech.

Is £361 the reduced price? I notice there are two Antminer S3's for sale but for two different prices.

Many thanks for your time and all keep up the good work. I hope bitcoin sustains and changes things in this world

Turkish customs has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to miners. There is no way it will make its way through there, trust me I know. You can try bribing them.

Alternatively, I'll be going to Turkey on December, I can bring one with me and sell it to you if you want. I did that before.

Really ? im buy antminer s1 without problem.

There are other traders in China which ask you what value and description they should put on the customs documents. Not for an Antminer, but for 1 TH/s-machines...
