I know the S4 will never ROI, but I'd love to know what sound level they are talking about, to quote:

"* Stable but a little bit noisy".

Huh Decibel reading please Bitmain  Huh

Makes me think home mining (if you bought one) might be LOUD affair.

OH ... and can I have that coupon for 0.4 BTC please  Grin

In case nobody else noticed, their site has conflicting information for the power efficiency.
The miner specs say it is 0.69W/GHS, but their "Never-Ending Progress" picture shows it @ ~0.48W/GHS.

I assume the 0.69W/GHS is the correct value...

holly molly, just simple calculation:

Hashnest: 0.00135*2800(2.8Th)=3.78btc

S4:Huh?*Huh=3.78btc

What a joke. More hassle, more issues and who knows what next. Roi never in sight and most important whats the point having miner at home when you can have more for the similar price?

To be fair, a cloudmining contract that's expired has no residual value. Whereas hardware can be resold (for pennies on the dollar in most instances) to recapture some of your original investment.

I'm not saying it's a wise decision, far from it. But resale value does need to be factored into ROI calculations if you want a true picture.

I bought Prisma Block Erupter 1.4T group buy, $670 with controller instead of S4 / SP20. I believe it is much quieter also.

BITMAIN is helping every miners around the world to have their own hash rate, no matter is in home or in the hosting farm. Anything helps the Bitcoin network safe and strong, BITMAIN will do it.
Really? Please provide us with updated firmware for S2 and S3 including newer, safer version of cgminer. You promised.

Absolutely. As I said in the very first page, as well as every other Bitmain thread, and will continue to ask until Bitmain decide to answer......

Too expensive Bitmain, sorry.

Have you upgraded the firmware to the latest cgminer with these & other models, as you promised to do many weeks ago but still haven't - or are you still using the old, security vulnerable version?

Please post a link to the firmware.

I can't even buy spares for my S2 - what are the spares availability for this model - if any?

Bitmain - do what you promised!!

Crunching the numbers - even at a reasonably optimistic 10 % difficulty steps, this will lose a miner -3.239 before it becomes loss making/obsolete on the 6th February at $0.15 per kwh.

If paying $0.12 per kwh you would lose -2.887 by the 5th March, or at $0.10 per kwh a loss of -2.604 on the 14th April.

These depressing stats are based for you lucky boys in USA who have no import tax........for me in the UK the machine would stop being profitable on the 15th December!!! And would cost me a loss of -4.559 (original cost of -4.987 including shipping and import tax!!!).

DEPRESSING!!!

Anyone who has had a look at the colocation offer (saving a large amount of money due to the minimal shipping charge) this works out at a loss of -2.577 come the 5th March, at which point the hosting fee ($0.125 averaged over 6 months) would become more than the income generated per day.

So, unless you had free power why would anyone be buying these??? Even with a discount code these still lose a minimum -2.377 bitcoins and are obsolete in 6 months and one week from now!

Basically, after crunching the numbers, these need to be 0.91 Btc per unit to be in with a chance of just making a ROI (unless power is < $0.10 per kwh). Obviously, this price is unrealistic as shipping needs to be paid and Bitcoin need a price of atleast 1.5 Btc per unit to justify not becoming another Bitfury and keeping them all to themselves.....but the current price of around 4.16 Btc (including shipping) shows just how much they are trying to take advantage of people that may not fully understand the way the mining game works as this sales price is a 357% mark up on the 'break even price' for people that don't have any import tax to pay......the bitcoin world has gone mad, and unfortunately I think that the hobby miner is officially dead.

The price of the S4 is a great incentive to keep my 10 x S1s (paid for long ago) and work this weekend to lower all the voltages and frequencies. Even if if I will just earn .5 BTC per month after electricity it's still better than the S4 deal. Second point is that it's getting cold again in the north east of america so the S1 heat is appreciated once again.

Like said before BITMAIN in only succesfull home miner manufacturer of 2014. Early year was of blast, too easy, times have changed.

I dont consider SPtech miners home miner friendly.

Hmm. S4 is looks to be a little bit noizy for home use...

So.....anyone have any idea how much shipping will be for this!!

Doubt I will buy, for the reasons that most people are saying....but it's nice to dream!

Just perform a pre-checkout and you'll know the exact cost of shipping to your location.

sorry Bitmain, not buying, too expensive, and there is no way I can ROI even in cheap place like Canada where it's cold and electricity is cheap. Thanks but no thanks.
even if electricty is free, with the last 10 difficulty level, that s4 will never ROI, i think you know that too , dont you ?

Nothing will. It's impossible to manufacture Mining equipment with current BTC level and costs of produce them. Market has hit turning point. too much hardware is manufactures to push the difficulty level. Manufacturer must pay the bills and get the return for the hardware produced. The risk of mining is at miners end.

10x +15% difficulty hops and game will change.

The USD price isn't that high especially if you take into account the coupon and no need to buy a PSU.  The BTC price is high just like everyone and their mother has been saying over and over and over again

+1

Hey Bitmain!

Please do some magic, make BTC to 1000$  and I'll buy 150 pieces ASAP.
