sorry Bitmain, not buying, too expensive, and there is no way I can ROI even in cheap place like Canada where it's cold and electricity is cheap. Thanks but no thanks.

even if electricty is free, with the last 10 difficulty level, that s4 will never ROI, i think you know that too , dont you ?

The only never ending process here is h/w guys screwing miners by selling them equipment months too late for it to be useful.

As mining approaches equilibrium, this is exactly what should happen! I don't think Bitmain is being evil or trying to price gouge. I'm sure they are just trying to make a small profit on each S4 they sell.

If miners were smart, which collectively they have proven that they are not, the S4 would not sell very well, which would cause manufacturers to reduce production and cause difficulty increases to level off.

If you don't think the S4 will ROI in BTC, please don't buy and encourage Bitmain to make more of them!

i wonder if anyone actually bought this ?

It's hard for manufactures these days given the stagnant/declining btc price. during gen 1/2 of asic price was rising and made the next gen much easier to buy/make. 3+ btc for 2TH in this market is hard to swallow.

And people are buying these like crazy! Must be a real bargain. Maybe I should get in line after all.  Shocked

Not so much...

26 orders in 90 mins - although I do feel sorry for whoever dropped 103BTC - ain't gonna see them back, this side of 2015!!!

Well... at least BitMain should be able to keep up without any shipping backlog.  Grin

That also means they can keep the units in their farm longer without having to uninstall them to ship out. Imagine the labor costs they are saving with their inflated prices.  Wink

Bitmain, congratulations on the release of the S4.  Unfortunately, the pricing and efficiency do not justify the purchase.
Amen! all of that HYPE! for nothing! Already better price points available in the market now.  Even from Bitmain on the S3s and purchasing a power supply.

What confuses me is  why go through all of that just to disappoint your buyers?

simple, they want to drive people to their cloud product where they have more control over the customer and less exposure to liability .
Very well stated, hadn't even crossed my mind. Went from selling a somewhat decent product to a cloud hustle.

well the unit is about 1600 usd shipped to me in New Jersey ,USA

I can buy 2900 shares of  their cloud for  the same price.

So 2.9th and no hassles vs 2.0th and hassles

Or I can buy from cex.io about 2.2th easy to trade shares this makes the s-4 very hard for a little guy.

I did get 1 s-3 on ebay a week ago and I ordered 1 s-3 on ebay last night.

my cost for the 2 was about 540 usd. will stay with them for now.

Make sure to upgrade your CG Miner. The version shipped by BitMain on S1, S2, and S3, (S4 unconfirmed) has widely documented security holes and BM isn't releasing their code even though it's licensed as open source development.

Damn these are expensive. And that estimate for the S3 ratio is great if you're using an 80 plus gold. However those get expensive fast, and on a normal 80plus or 80plus Bronze you get around 0.81 if you OC to 250 Mhz and its a good unit. It's actually not as good at lower speeds.

I thought the S1 had the same efficiency as the S2?   Huh   I think that graph might be misleading?

Here are real efficiency numbers at the wall:

S1 : ~2     W/GH
S2 : ~1.05 W/GH
S3 : ~.78   W/GH
S4 : ~.69   W/GH

I can personally confirm S1, S2, and S3 efficiency numbers using a decent gold power supply and kilowatt to measure power usage at the wall, but am using Bitmains published info for S4 efficiency.

Hey Bitmain!  Since most of the world isn't going to buy your S4 at that price, do you have any plans to offer more S1 upgrade kits?

Did you discontinue them or just sell out?  Can't seem to find out from anyone if you expect to have them available again.  Lots of S1's out there that we could upgrade in order to mine coins to buy your S4 (after you lower the price, of course!).  So you see, leaving us with S1's and the rolling batches of S3's that are bought more often to be re-sold than used only hurts your S4 sales.  Kit me and make me happy.

Beware. This is different than every other product that Bitmain have sold in the past. Shipping is NOT included in the price unlike past products.

And what's with the misleading efficiency chart? The text clearly states that it is .69w/GHs but the chart show .4w/GHs.

What happened to the S1 upgrade Kits? Taken down because they're a better deal than the S4?

If the price was halved I'd still only be hesitantly considering it :')
