Just tried to order two with BTC to the US.  Couldn't!  Appears to require I enter a mobile phone number, something I neither have nor need/want.  What is this shit?

International shipping requires that there be a contact number that the recipient be available if there is an issue during shipping.  You should not need a mobile number specifically.  Just enter you home or business number in all the phone fields.  I regularly have things delivered to the US with out issue with a mobile or home/business number.

Why do I keep getting this error msg when trying to flash the Antminer s5 with the new Firmware? "tar: invalid magic tar: short read"
What am I doing wrong?
What is the name of the file you downloaded? If you download it and the name is different from SD-S5-20150107.tar.gz, it will not work. You may need to right click and save it a different way if the name is incorrect, depends on your browser.

Thanks its OK now I figured it out, I was extracting the file instead of Flashing it as is. These things are bloody loud aren't they, they are much louder than the S3, are there any tips to get the noise levels down? I know a few people on the thread are suggesting to replace the fasn with an inflow and an outflow

Just seen where Bitmain has crossed out the 9v feature for undervolting? Was this discussed here and I missed it? Was counting on this to work in the future.

Notes
1.   Power consumption figures vary with your PSU’s efficiency, the ambient operating temperature and the accuracy of the power meter.
2.   PSU: A power supply unit is not included, and you will need to provide an ATX PSU. There are 4 PCI-e connectors for +12V DC input and all four are required. Do not connect more than one PSU to the same hashing board.
3.   When better power efficiency is needed in the future due to higher network difficulties, you may want to buy some special PSUs 9V DC with more than 10A output, which will allow you to have a 0.2J/GH mining efficiency, but at lower hashing speed.

I believe this was done to remove confusion for new buyers. If you were in a position to 9V a miner, you'd already know about it.

I have to say, the reports on the noise of these things is not exaggerated. I had one set up in my basement last night for testing, and I had to go shut it off to go to sleep. I've at various times had an SP20 down there, a dozen S1s at a single time, a couple Habaneros with 250CFM Delta fans, and a half dozen 5970s running at 100% fan along with other GPUs back when that was a thing. Never had to turn something off at night before.

I'm really going to try to remember to bring a measurement mic home and get the spectrum of the noise, it seems extremely high pitched at full speeds compared to a lot of other fans.

Have you done any undervolting yet?
Not yet. I only looked at it briefly and it didn't seem to want to start up. Could have been a network issue though.

Oh, along with that I'd concur that the fan profile is stupid on these things. The one I have in my mining location has ASIC temps of 42C, and the fan is still spinning at 3360RPM. A lot of headaches would probably be avoided with better fan control.
Or maybe the 9V undervolt does not work? Figure there is a reason Bitmain has crossed it out on page 1.

Started running  mine at Freq 375 getting  1.23+GH and reading 635W at the wall with a RM1000 Corsair 115V.

After 28 hours one board dropped and started showing x's, after a reboot that didn't help I  reset the freq back to default of 350 and its seems to be doing fine now. Getting 1155GH with temps at 48/47 fan 3480 and reading 592 watts at the wall. Not sure why that board dropped off at the 375 setting as the temps seemed fine at 50/49?

Have you tried closing in the top so the front fan air flow is kept within the frame and exhausted out the rear? Also, how about reducing the airflow above the heat sinks (reducing the upper front fan opening) so as to improve cooling efficiency (greater air flow through the internal heat sinks)?

Beyond that, how about an S3 fan both on front (push) and rear (pull)?
None of these seemed to make any significant difference. The loudness and temperature seems almost entirely dependent on the one fan on the front.

Damn... I was planning to do this (close the top of S5 case to provide more directed airflow) with my test unit that arrived much later than to other forum members...

But I still have a couple ideas on how to play with S5.  Roll Eyes Can't wait to get it in my hands (it's not depends on me unfortunately......).
