Looks like no coupons for S5 buyers - oh well, if anyone has an extra that won't be used I'll happily make use of it.  Smiley My username on bitmain is the same as here.

Seems to depend on when you bought your S5 - I got 2 coupons for buying out of the first "batch 7" (used) group.

Not sure if I'm going to use both, but definitely plan to use one of them when I get the coin together.

The S5 might have "officially" limited at 35C, but it could run hotter - just had to downclock it some.
Mine have seen brief periods pushing 40c ambient.
I'm sure the S7 will run at >40, just that's the max temp the "specified" rate is more-or-less guarenteed to be achieveable at.

Day-night rates never pay for mining, as a flat usage pattern will cost more on that sort of tariff.

It varies, the "Time of Day" rate here (which I presume is the sort of tariff you're talking about) DOES in fact save money for anything that's on 24/7. +40% for 65 hours vs -50% for 103 hours, which is actually inferior to the "ToD" rate modifications from the last 2 places I lived.

well lets see how bitmain will deal with this overpriced miner issue

Unfortunately, by recent Bitmain pricing standards, it's not overpriced. It's actually a hair LESS than I expected for the TH and power draw.

At the time 11.2p was the best I could get on a normal tarriff so it did work out cheaper.

Not sure how you manage to avoid the CCL, and 8p is a very low price so you are lucky.

  • Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 40 °C

Operating Temp is really low 40C?  Other miners as well as bitmain units operated up to 60C.

That is only 104F or so.  Hope you got air conditioning or live in a northern region.

The S5 has a limit of 35C. These are ambient temps, but I can see a data center getting higher than 40C and certainly higher than 35C without AC.

I'm sure there's many S5's that have been running at ambient temps above 35C in the past couple months. Any performance issues?
[This is ambient temp, not reported chip temp]

Right, but I'm in the tropics and the lowest the temp goes this time of year at night is 27C, daytime temps at 33C. With a little AC my S5s have not been in ambient temps above 35C. Without AC it would easily go above 40C during the day. I'm wondering what would happen above those temps. For an S5 with stock fans the board readings would probably still be in the mid-60s. I've run an S5 with quiet fans with temps in the low-mid 70s for months without any impact on performance or efficiency (edit - I'm not recommending this, btw, I'm sure running it that hot carries a higher risk of malfunction).

I'm curious to see how the S7 would handle higher ambient temps given the dense chip arrangement.

Mining still dead in the UK at $0.23, and shipping to a host is probably going to be a year to breakeven when the inevitable diff rises happen so no new machines for me Sad
Who are you with, I'm on 8p/KWh (0.12$/KWh).

I'm currently with Eon on a business tariff, I was spending around £1500-£2000 a month and shopped around for the best deal which at the time was

11.83p day rate
6.76p night rate.

Which is an average of 10.56p, then add on the standing charge, climate charge (which goes up quite high when you start spending the above amount) and VAT** and you are up to 15p = $0.23

Now granted electric rates might have come down since then, but I only have a Titan left here, everything else has been sold or shipped abroad.

** I know you will mention claiming the VAT back as we have had this conversation before, but according to my accountant and further consultation with HMRC, because the item that you are selling (BTC) does not atrract VAT, you cannot claim the VAT back for the process of making them.  You can claim the VAT back on buying the machines as you charge it when you sell them.

And the buy button just went live, despite the large expense, I wonder how long until they sell out of batch #1?
Good luck to everyone buying these ! Looks like some great gear, but this time around, instead of buying a fancy new miner, I did the following and will HODL.

Lets see which will be the better investment 9 months down the road.

Bitcoin miners are  (home) heaters,  the hiting  by-product  are  related bonus points - also known as  BTC. The manufacturers sells for them (or for many)  new and more powerful heaters aka bitcoin miners.
So explain mining protsess  to your tax official.

Shipping cost to the states isn't bad at least - I get $34.24 for one, $57.82 for two. I'm on the fence on these... a coupon might push me over Smiley

And the buy button just went live, despite the large expense, I wonder how long until they sell out of batch #1? I just made a table of the BTC/GH of my purchase from Bitmain, they -really- seem to like 1.47 BTC/TH on average, except that these cost almost the same per TH as my S3s did in July of 2014, and although they use fewer Watts/TH, a TH is worth a lot less. Today I'll flesh out my spreadsheet to include relative W/TH and percent/TH worth as compared to my S1s that I bought in April of last year. Altogether though, any purchase of new hardware where your ROI extends out past July of 2016's halving really doesn't make sense at this point.

I would love a few coupons if someone has a spare they don't intend on using.  I never pulled the gun on the S5 or S5+ and time to get some shiny new ones.

I have 4 AntMiner S7 Coupon 20 USD if you would like them.  I will not be using these.  Better than nothing.

I'm an S5 buyer with no coupons, guess it had to have been later in the release cycle, or the s5+ only. I would appreciate it if you would be willing to send praeluceo a coupon!

Bitcoin Talks Bullshit Walks
i like how they are admitting they fucked us on the s5 + here is a 100 coupon that wont mean fuck all once these come online... Those that have watched bitmain in the past can see such as with the s2 and s4 + right when they are about to dump old chips they stuff it in a new box and call it something new.. More likely than not they are already running the s7 or hell something more efficient than that im sure... to me its looking like ill just hang on to my coins.. with all this hash coming on and diluting the  incoming money on btc we can only see further drops in price or a steady price..  I dont like the direction this is al headed personally but what can i do about it?.. Ill mine with my s4 till it can no longer mine for profit then im done with it.. The manufacturers have got the price now such that a new machine can be released before the last one roi.. But your stuck cause if you dont upgrade you will be squeezed out.. Its a viscous cycle with the end game being the manufacture for win.. Keep your coins till we can get some competition.. Bitmain if you want to even try to begin to sell these best send a coupon to everyone cuz 100 off is laughable at current market conditions having just bought s5 or s5 +.. Peace Be with you!

Best Regards

I currently have 750W Platinum PSUs with 4 PCI-E connectors.  I am thinking that rather than buying new PSUs, I would just use 3 of these on 1 S7.  This would be 1 750W PSU for each HashCard and the third one would also connect to the Control Card.  Does this sound feasible?

sounds perfect if the psu's are single rail!

  one coupon for one unit:)

I am new to coupons. Today I received 10 Coupon counts which says AntMiner S7 Coupon 100 USD. Does that mean I have 10x100 USD = 1000 USD Coupon? Can these coupons be used all at once or 10 orders separately?
