Just got my U3. After compiling cgminer with icarus-enabled I have it running now at solo.ckpool.org just for fun. To be on the safe side (at least I hope so) I used the following options "--au3-freq 200" and "--au3-volt 725". So far the baseplate of the miner as well as the power brick is staying relatively cool. The miner is hashing with around 50 Gh/s which is quite ok for underclocking it.

Curious to see how long it takes before it zombies/melts/burns/explodes/solves a block or whatever ...

My last U3 just died.  I can see it with zadig and reinstall the driver, but it does not get recognized by cgminer, nor is the R1 able to fire it up as a controller.  The red USB led lights up, but that's it.  It will no longer hash no matter what I do.  RIP U3.

Yours may just be dead/defect also, zOU.

And as usual it's never the users fault and bitmain sent you a crappy u3 right?
I don't want to say it's your fault but chances are you overclocked it behond safe parameters even though you might not admit it.

I have 3 out of 3 working fine with my R1.  I am not trying to push them though.  I get around 50GH or so out of each and around 150GH or a tad less out of all together.   So far has seemed to work pretty good.

I don't really OC anymore on any of my miners.  During S3 day's I didn't have a second thought about doing it.  But i just don't risk it anymore besides my compacs I do push them sometimes.

I quoted mikestang..  How come you're answering? lol

I would go with a frequency of 237.50 and voltage of 800 for something stable.

well bitmain support asked me to test it with their outdated cgminer 4.8 with  --bmsc-voltage 0830 --bmsc-freq 0982

but that doesn't change anything....

LED status is wrong and cgminer -n reports an error....

Try using v4.9.2, it is the most current release. 4.9.1 had problems detecting the U3.

Otherwise your problems are typical and among the reasons why the U3 totally sucks.

Hey guys !

So i got that U3 who just stop sometimes ( in cgminer 4.9.2 , only mhz is show , not the volt ... ) also detect as a blockrupter (?) , sometimes not detect at all , and when is detect got only 29gh/s , is that normal or this lil thing is dead ?

--au3-freq 237.5  --au3-volt 800 for the conf , i tried lower volt and freq , but still got this problem ..

(sorry for bad english  Smiley )

it looks like one of my U3 is dead:

- no hashing at all
- the red LED that used to blink when hashing is now permanently ON
- U3 is detected in windows/Linux
- windows cgminer sees it but says there's no drivers even though zadig has been installed
- linux: cgminer -n sees it, cgminer --benchmark just hangs....

I swapped power and USB cable with the same result

So far bitmain support has been unhelpful...

They asked me to reinstall zadig drivers, but this doesn't fix my issue:

cgminer -n

You are still at default voltage and frequency.  Try bumping up the freq and volt as mentioned above (250 / 800 is good for most people).  Also, use the [ code ] tag for your cgminer cut/paste or the forum does things with the [] commands.  It is also helpful to do widescreen display so we can see accepted shares and HW errors.

Every U3 is different, play with the volt and freq combos until you find one that works best for your U3.  Be sure you're using a good power supply when you start upping the voltage.

I'm only getting this hashrate

Ahah !!!

Well it looks like a power supply issue.

Try powering it from a standard power supply

those are the types of plugs i use to power up my u3's. plugged into an evga 550w psu.
Thank you to everyone who helped me I bought a power supply today and wired it has you suggested and it worked straight away

I know there is a rumor it helps stop zombies vs regular brick.  Can you say if you got more time in-between bricks?

I'm just curious if amount of zombies benefit's from this.
