It doesn't matter the type of gambler you are though all that matters is your decision, you can decide to make a change if you are intentional and consistent about it, as a repentant gambler I wouldn't even advice you to gamble for fun or engage in it occasionally cause it might trigger what you are trying to avoid.

However, in my opinion, if there is a gambler who truly repents and wants to stop gambling, I am sure he has previously experienced the impact of big problems in his life and that cannot be tolerated or forgiven so that he has no choice but to stop.
However, there are also gamblers who only reduce playing and he still maintains good control so as not to become addicted and he must maintain that every time he is gambling.

I know it's been said but I would quit when it became pointless because I had *that* much money.
25+ years ago I was at the Comdex convention in Vegas playing some $5 a hand blackjack waiting for the next seminar to start.

Much to my surprise Bill Gates (yes that one) sat down nearby and also started playing $5 a had. Thought is was odd that someone that rich was playing $5 a hand. But, it was later pointed out to me that $5 a hand or $5000000 a hand for 15 minutes made no difference in his life. Using some basic math if he played for the full 15 minutes (was probably a bit less) and the dealer kept up 2 rounds of hands per minute it's 30 hands.
Even at $5 million a hand if he had lost them all it would have only been $150 million it would still be an insignificant percentage of the $80 Billion he was worth at the time. So to him $5 or $5 million gives the same thrill which is zero since it just does not matter. It was just to pass the time for a few minutes.

If I ever get that rich I would stop gambling, because if I am just passing the time I might as well read a book......

That's a good question, and the answer is different for each user. I think people should quit gambling when they stop enjoying it, simple as that. If gambling is something that you don't enjoy anymore or something that represents a problem in your life, then you should quit gambling, don't wait until the big win to quit because it's easier for you to lose than getting that massive win.

A big win will make us want to gamble more, and a huge loss will make us stop and walk away.

I find it strange to see that we have so huge discussion, when the answer seems to be simple - loosing a lot or all the money is the only reason for quit gambling. And I find it hard to understand, who will think about quitting, when he is winning. I think that is impossible. The emotions that gambler get from winning are so strong, that he must put a lot of effort to stop. However, in general it does not look like someone would ever completely quit gambling. Even if that persons wins or looses, with time, that person will return if not to continue to gamble, but to make at least one or two bets.

The answer to this question is very simple in my opinion. The thing is that you need to determine how much money you need for the rest of your life. And I think that a hundred thousand will not be enough. Half of this amount will immediately go to your own home. Leaving half. I myself admit that I have even often experienced such thoughts, where when I have won even though I intend to withdraw it, there is always the thought of wanting to win even more and that makes gambling continue until what happens is nothing else and not strange is losing everything that is owned including the initial capital. This often happens but for some reason sometimes it feels difficult to eliminate, but now I can manage everything well with no more thoughts like this, this is one of the good achievements for myself.
Now if the question is reversed with something like "is there a good reason to keep gambling?" I think many people will probably answer by taking this activity as a fun angle, but that does not guarantee that gambling will be smooth, maybe occasionally there will be a time when loss of control occurs but I am sure it can be eliminated because I myself have succeeded in doing it.
