Can Vega 56 run on just one 8 pin power or does it require both?

It doesnt need it, if you undervolt it to use less than 150W. But it wont boot without the 2nd 8pin cable.

3 vega 56 flashed with the 64 vega rom

max i can get is 1500 on all three using CAST-XMR , on top of that the hashrate keeps dropping after a high start and settles in at 1400ish

using 1110 core and 1075 mem 20% + power lim and 900 mv on core and mem

Any help ? i see 1200 before i do the disable enable trick , and I do see the error that says blockchain drivers not detected

but I am using the robin hood blockchain drivers , the aug 23 drivers seem to constantly crash my system
you need the blockchain drivers aug 23. no way around it. if desperate, start with a fresh windows install.

yeah even on a fresh install BSOD when i run it ok thanks tho

You just need to rise core to the 1408MHz, mem just leave on 1075 or 1050, it doesn´t matter.

What PSU(s) are you using on your 8 card Vega rigs?

2 pcs CORSAIR HX1200 for every 8 VEGA cards.

[/quote]

I have 2 pcs of EVGA Power Supply SuperNOVA 1600 P2, 1600W, 80 PLUS Platinum for 10x vega64, and it´s a more than enough. PSU working max on 60% and this is in the range where has the best efficiency.

Looks promising, though I thought it was gospel not to use SATA power because of the cards drawing more power than it's rated to handle?

I have connected both Biostar SATA connectors directly to one PSU like is recomanded on Biostar site:  http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/event/crypto_mining/page4.htm. Also the risers and the GPU are connected to PSU with other two cables. I don't think it's something wrong... I hope Smiley

Do not worry, 8pin can deliver 150W, so for vega you have a power 300W from 2x8pins and vega powerdraw should be around 220W.
I heard that for sata is max somewhere around 25W... But this depends on quality of cables and connectors...

I think sata max is around 50W but needs proof

I think you'll be ok. I also use the HX1000i and HX1200i but the risers are fed from a single 4xSATA adapter that goes to the 8pin type3 connector on the PSU. I think the cards take most of their power from the 2x8pin conectors and almost none from the risers.

I have a question tough: were do you get the long cables for the psu ? I don't seem to find them. Are they custom made ?

i saw someone said if XMR tanks not a lot of value. but at a price of 400 for a Vega 56 now and reports of 470 on equihash and like high 30's and low 40's on eth it sounds like you'd still do pretty good on other coins. No?

There are other CryptoNight coins besides XMR that are also paying well so hopefully CryptoNight will be very profitable for a long time.  But yes, the Vegas are doing ok with ETH and others too so now that the prices on Vegas are reasonable I think they are a good deal now.  I am buying Vegas from here on out instead of RXs.  I may even sell my GTX 1070 to fund another Vega but I'm waiting to see how profitable Bitcoin Gold will be.

Depends with which GPU.  In most cases, there is absolutely no problem using SATA.  the sata to molex adapters are the problem though.  I dont know how much VEGA pulls from sata but I have some on SATA and they are cold to the touch, no worries there.  Of course only use one or two per string, never more...

i posted in cast xmr but perhaps it's better directed here..

what's the easiest way to check power consumption per card and voltage?

I have 4 56 with 64 bios and also ran the gpu0000-1100hbm registry tweak. I'm getting 1900h/s each - cards are running around 60deg but there's one which is running hot around 70-75.

each card has min fan set to 3000 both voltage settings set to manual.

I'd prefer to run the cards cooler and sacrafice hash rate.

Recommendations ?

It's my first post on this form and I take the opportunity to thank you all (Mythic in special) for you knowledge sharing.
Below you can find my experience with both RX Vega 56 and 64 version mining Monero @ 1800-2000 h/s:

Both my rigs have the same configuration except GPU type:
-  8 x GPU (8 x RX Vega 56 on first rig and another 8x RX Vega 64 on 2'nd) , Biostar B250 BTC-PRO, 8GB-RAM DDR4, SSD 120GB (65GB Virtual memory in Win10).
-  Software config: Blockchain driver, Soft PPT in registry, disable-enable display adapter after restart,  cast miner 6.0
-  Result:~1800 H/s on all 8 pcs Vega56 and ~2000 H/s on all 8 pcs Vega64
-  Print screen with the results:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LlhIxuc4MFVbUog50BKigv-aqV-RXuCp6g/view?usp=sharing

Coming soon: please be prepared for one of the most interesting rig (8 GPU in a semi open case with  a horn on top for hot air exhaust)

wow these things sounds great.

Some of these posts are so advanced though. Is it hard to get these running optimal? I really have to force myself to be patient and not build a rig with these from the numbers i'm crunching in my head. I'm trying to decide between this and a 1070, but it seems to win on every coin and lower priced (the 56)
