I have made serious profit from holding different coin down the years, and my number one example is bitcoin! Through the market conditions and situations, when it hurts and when it is joyful, I have to experience and endure all sort of disappointment and fulfillment, but I can tell that cryptocuurency worth alll the effort and experience!
I have done it with Bitcoin in 2015 - 2016 when it rose from $550 to around $6,000 I think? You could have also repeated the rise during 2017 up to the peak, but you should always pick targets where you will sell some or all and stick to them.
Serious profit will be if you invest serious moneys.

Lol 3 times. Always buy early and hold. In 12 months I was up 175 times. And that is still nothing. I got another year or so of holding till Ardor gets me to 600 times or more.

For me its Yes, Holding 1 year of a promising coin/token can be more profitable if the coin/token you choose is the right one. but if you wrongly pick the s***coins it maybe opposite the results is. because s***coins are no future so you better aware of everything because this type of Coin/Token is masquerading as (promising one) but the team will be vanish as soon as it will listed on exchange so be careful!
I think most of us did. I did profit for holding for at least 5 months, which is kind of nice because it gave me 5 times return. Then there is this case where I ended up badly instead of profiting because we all are a newbie at some point and thought to ourselves "Hey it's increasing, maybe I should hold this much longer" and the next moment we are at the lost. Well, maybe that's how we learn our lessons, from mistakes (Atleast in my case) and learned that we should be grateful if we profit and should just take it, that we should set our own limitation because most altcoins don't last 6-12 months but instead only gives you hope and die in the end.

I have held some of my little known alts for 6-12 months. But in most cases, I got negative returns. The coins I held were the following: Litecoin, Denarius, Bitsend, Byteball, Deep Onion, eBTC, and Bitcoin Cash. It may be due to the current market conditions as well.
Trying to pick projects i believe in on the long term and keep adding to my stack. to add some excitement to the otherwise boring hodling game i buy some lowcaps from time to time.
Yeah some are serious, it is a part of strategy to hold coins. Its depends on us on how we able to determine if it is good to hold for that long time, we have different strategies but there are some tips and we can observe the daily operation of cryptocurrency.

not yet 'cause I am just new here but one am holding two altcoins so far, from $1k to almost less than $200 so far. And the other one is from $600 to $300. It's a kind of draining my patience but I always reminding myself that I chose this way so better to be calm and focus for the reason of holding.
really depends on which coin, Back 2016 was holding certain coin til now, turned out it was not a good idea. Not all holding is worth the wait, you need to hold the right coin example top 10 - 20 coin with potential growth and solid support from the community or else you'll end up holding a shit coin.

In previous year bitcoin gave good profit, opproximately x25, some altcoins gave x10-50. Unfortunately in future we will not see more than x5 during the year
Of course we did just look at last year if you were hodling pretty much any coin you could see it going x20,it really didnt made any difference because everything was pumped.Now this might work only if you buy in on the projects that looks promising and that are still in the early stages of development so the price is low enough
So far for me this did not work but it is still time until I will make 1 year of holding so I still have faith but right now I am in a big lose but the good part is that i did not panic on all this bitcoin bouncies so this can turn in my favor at the end of this year. Yea, holding actually makes good returns from holding, depends with the quality of the project though, you don't expect to make good returns out of holding poor quality coins, good coins will gain value over time and holding them will give you returns as value will be gained
I tried to hold it for 12 months. I spent $1500 for such coins XEM, XRP, DGB, VTC, STR, ETC, NXC, AMP, RADS, SNGL, XZC. In the peak it was 15K, today it is 3K, l have to wait when the market goes up.

Holding is not the best way to make a big profit. For me when the coin makes a big pump i started to sell them then wait for 2 to 4 days to buy back because put in mind that there are no token which will pump forever so its a wise move to sell your coin when it pumps just analize where the resistance will hit. I know this is not easy for the beginners to annalize the support and resistan but researching and watching useful trading lesson in youtube or google will make you improve a lot in your trading skills.
Those who bought cryptocurrencies in December 2017 are still hodling because they are still at a loss. It may take a few more months to break even or possibly longer. Those who have bought in the last couple of month may be in serious profit shortly.
