Altcoins have their own unique importance. Earlier people used to say that the alts are poaching on the users of Bitcoin. Fortunately, this opinion has changed now. A lot of users are realizing that altcoins such as Ethereum are beneficial to the crypto-sector.
In my opinion, there are a lot of good coins in the market in addition to BTC, although there are a lot of but very good projects that will be able to compete in the future.
The importance of altcoins is about the adaptions and mostly used by different bounty campaigns as a main contributions of salaries to the people who joined and works in bounty campaign. And many kinds of altcoins now that being introduce in the market, are came from different bounty campaigns. Therefore altcoins are also important like bitcoin, because they function also as a crypto currency like bitcoin that has a value, although they are opposite of price value to bitcoin but as long as many people who used altcoins, they are also important crypto coin that used by people like bitcoin.

unfortunately what you are calling "competition" has never been much of a competition. there has been only alternative ways of making money which we call altcoins. there has been some rare innovations in this system and some decent projects but majority of the altcoins, specially the top10, have always been purely for pump and dumps which kills any kind of competition in this market because all the money goes into the top pumped coins not the good projects that are not pumped and are outside of top 10.

Absolutely yes, ethereum coin is the reason why altcoins today is so profitable because all the new coins in the market are based on ethereum so we can expect for altcoins to have a very long life since there is always new ico's that is being introduced in the market.
As we all know bitcoin is the first crypto currency that morr people had acknowledged and next to bitcoin is ethereum, however the demand on ethereum seems to far behind from bitcoin, if you based it on the price, and then the rest of the altcoins also needs more further demand and seems to be way behind than ethereum, if you take a look at it, only bitcoin and etherrum can be called as legit currency, since both are accepted by the majority, however for the rest of the altcoins, people will accept them if they can prove that they can be used in real life, some altcoins are just imitating bitcoin, being decenttalized and that's it, that's their project, however if you can out your altcoins into rral life situation, like as a payment for your work as a freelancer, thr community will grow, and the coin will be of value, since the transactions will be faster and the coin is being circulated.
In any healthy ecosystem, there is always competition and the best usually rises to the top. We see this in nature and in business, so not having this in the crypto ecosystem would be a mistake. Having other altcoins as an option would spur on innovation, but also ensure that it truly is the best option out there. Otherwise, we may end up with a Bitcoin that doesn’t fit everyone’s unique needs around the world. Having choice is freedom and allows people choose the best option for them and balance the power of this new internet money.

Yes ofcourse! Though bitcoin is the oldest one and it has a lot of popularity, altcoins are never the less staying behind. Bitcoin and altcoin both are the flourishing crypto currencies. There are so many people who are investing in bitcoin as much as ethereum or other altcoins. These two are doing great to make crypto world better.
