One compac hashes 2x higher than the other.

Screw on compac
If Compac  Device usb connector is pointed north, turn screw on device to lower settings, ? needs to be turned clockwise or counter clockwise.

Yes, you are on .094. 2 of the enhancements were based on your suggestions

Well how about that, thanks for listening!  Sadly my last U3 just died, it no longer hashes, but I'll update my firmware "patch" anyway.  Thanks again for sharing this with the community, it was a god send for as long as I was able to use it for my U3.

Changelog for release 0.95:
- Opened up port 4029 for API access to cgminer-u3 instance
- Max frequency for U3 increased to 250M
- Max fequency for R1 increased to 250M (I have not personally tested freq past 125. Use at your own risk!)

Very cool and generous of you, I'm sure a lot of folks will benefit from it.

Can I assure release 0.95 is newer than what is on my unit that I ordered a few weeks ago?  I'm asking because I see you added U3 freq 250 which mine does not have currently.

Thanks again!

I've sold out of R1's, and as promised, I am releasing my customized firmware to the community. Please note that although I refer to this package as custom firmware, it is really just a patch file. If you reset your R1 to factory defaults, you will lose the customizations. In which case, you would just need to re-apply the patch.

Changelog for release 0.95:
- Opened up port 4029 for API access to cgminer-u3 instance
- Max frequency for U3 increased to 250M
- Max fequency for R1 increased to 250M (I have not personally tested freq past 125. Use at your own risk!)

Firmware Enhancements
- U3 zombie handling(Scripted auto-cgminer restarts and R1 reboot if necessary)
- Supports modifying R1 pools from UI, without losing the ability to use Bitmain's solo pool for R1.
- Detailed R1 stats page, including pool statistics
- Supports modifying R1 freq and voltage from UI
- U3 freq selection increased to 250M
- Cgminer-U3 API open for monitoring with 3rd party tools

WARNING: These customizations provide the ability to push your R1 beyond its intended limits. Because of this, it will likely void your warranty with Bitmain. Additionally, I provide this patch with no official support, and take no responsibility for any damage done to your R1 device or its surroundings. Use at your own risk! By downloading and applying this patch, the user is accepting these conditions.

Upgrade instructions
To upgrade your firmware, go to "Backup / Flash Firmware" under the "System" tab
- Click on the "Chose File" button to the right of "Restore Backup:" (NOTE: Do not mistake this with the "Chose File" button under Flash new firmware. - This is not a full binary firmware file)
- Choose "R1CGCustomFW_0.95_2015-12-28.tar.gz" from your PC and then click on the "Upload archive" button.

Your antrouter system will reboot and come back up with updated firmware!

Crazyguy, are you aware of this issue?  Does your firmware address it, or is it something that can even be addressed via firmware?  Thanks.

the cgminer bundled with the R1 has a memory leak..

Wed Dec 23 16:45:26 2015 kern.err kernel: [239052.260000] Out of memory: Kill process 1158 (cgminer) score 693 or sacrifice child
Wed Dec 23 16:45:26 2015 kern.err kernel: [239052.260000] Killed process 1158 (cgminer) total-vm:72348kB, anon-rss:44264kB, file-rss:0kB

it will eventually cause a crash with the r1.

unfortunately without the source code for the antrouter driver it cant be updated.

I haven't noticed the leak myself, but I wouldn't be surprised. If there is a leak, then it appears to be handling itself... i.e. R1 crashes and reboots, or cgminer crashes and frees the memory, then monitor script restarts cgminer. Depending on the size of the leak, a simple script to restart the R1 cgminer instance every few hours should mitigate the issue.

I got the adapter with my R1 from Crazyguy, but only because it stands the R1 off my power strip and allows me access the the adjacent plug.

Crazyguy,
received one of my AntR1's today and the plug has a short in it. Every time I plug it no power from unit unless I wiggle the router. Doesn't stay powered very long as any vibration will jiggle the plug back to not being fully plugged into outlet. Even tried extension cords and multiply outlets with same results.
what to do

I've never had to use the adapter, but if you ordered a modified unit from me, it means I had it plugged in and working for at least 10 minutes while I updated and tested the firmware. Please PM me with your order number and we'll figure out what's going on.

I have not had to use the adapter's either for US plug. I got my R1 from CrazyGuy and still working great controlling 3 U3's. I bought amazon on china to us adapter and have it sitting on a shelf.  I am happy I did not have to use looks nice sitting flush with power.

It appeared that it would need the adapter as from listing from Bitmain when they were selling.  But the the life of me after using I can figure out why they sold US plugs.

Are you using the plug adapter?  It comes with a Chinese style plug that may work in some US outlets (if it's a tight fit), but you may just need the plug adapter.

Really is a great U3 controller with custom firmware R1.  I had a power outage today due to electricity.

The R1 turned it's self on once power was back and started mining again.  So one more plus with this R1.

I unplug/re-plugged the U3 and it came back to life, no clue why it stopped but it all appears ok now.

Actually better than ok, my U3 runs about 5GH/s faster being controlled by the R1 with the same freq/volt settings I was using previous.  Then factor in the 5GH/s I'm getting from the R1 itself and that's like a "free" 10GH/s upgrade to the U3.  The errors on this U3 are always around 5%, but for a long time last night they were just about 1% which I had never seen them so low before, so I'll credit the R1 with that, too.  Bitmain should have marketed the R1 as a U3 controller first, they may have sold one to every U3 owner on the planet!  I don't think I'll make use of its other functions, but as a U3 controller I'm really digging it.

One more question/suggestion for addition to your custom firmware (besides opening port 4029 as I posted above) - why isn't 250 included in the frequency drop down?  That's the max freq supported by the U3 and it seems to me that it should be a valid selection.  Also, 225 is the default, not 206.25.  There's really no reason to include the frequencies below 225, no one underclocks these and there's no reason for them.

225, 237.5, 243.75, 250 should be the frequency choices.

Thanks!

Cool, thanks, I will mess around with it tonight.  It seems to me like the port should be open by default to facilitate use, but I'll see what I can dig up.  I've only ssh'd into miners a couple times, I'm really a noob with it, so hopefully the solution presents itself quickly.

Edit - so I couldn't wait to get home and VPN tunneled to my home computer, went into the lua interface and found port opening under the traffic rules tab (Network, Firewall, Traffic Rules).  There was already a rule for port 4028, so I added the same one for 4029 (like I said above, seems to me that the firmware should do this already since it tells the U3 to use port 4029, maybe something you could add to your custom flash in the future?) and viola, cryptoglance can see the U3.  Once I get home I'll figure out why it's not hashing any more, probably just need to unplug/replug.  Thanks again!

I haven't tried accessing the api outside of the R1. It's possible openwrt may have a light version of ip tables blocking that port. If so, you'll need to allow inbound/outbound traffic on that port.

How would I go about opening the port on the R1?  I understand how to do it on my normal router, but I do not see similar functions on the R1.

Also, any idea why the U3 didn't come back when I restarted the R1?  Thanks.

You'll have to secure shell in and confirm it is running ip tables first. It may be some other form of firewall. There may also be an easier way to open up ports through the Lua interface, so you may want to try digging around I'm the network section first.

If you go the ip tables route, here's a good starting doc
help.ubuntu.com/community/IptablesHowTo

As for why your U3 is not being recognized after reboot, it could be a number of things. Power supply died, tripped circuit, shorted cable... I would shell in and run lsusb to see if your R1 even sees the device as connected. Maybe reboot again.
