Did you pm the bot on telegram?

You need to do this to enable it.

I haven't sent a PM to bot on Telegram but I found him and there was start button to start the bot, started and sent hello.

Of course, I sent PM with options in the topic line and telegram:myTelegramusername in body, to user Maggiordomo here on Bitcointalk today.

Still, nothing in Telegram and I was quoted and username was used multiple times so far.

I forgot more than you will ever know.
What is working actually, right now?

I am signed up to a thread and receive notifications from a few weeks.

Today after reading this thread I signed up for Telegram notifications, but I did not receive anything.

What is working actually, right now?

I was thinking it may be a good compromise to have the notifications through PM but with the possibility to decide an interval of time to receive the PM with the notifications (if there is any). I would rather move away from the thread solution.

But i will have to postpone to next week to have something like that.

Is it possible to be able to choose between PM and thread?

The PM structure of SMF doesn't allow to read it as a conversation so it is not possible to have all links in the same place. To me this is a step backwards regarding usability.

Not that I care since I use the telegram function, but if I had to choose I would prefer the Thread any time.

Shall we remove the threads after we move to PMs? I'd like to keep mine as a reference for now, and maybe delete it later on.
As far as I know, users can't delete threads. Moving to Archival is the only option, and it's there already.

Are they active now the PM notifications or we still receive notifications in the thread? Shall we remove the threads after we move to PMs? I'd like to keep mine as a reference for now, and maybe delete it later on.

This is a good idea!  But , then it cant notify you can it? No new reply?

Yes, unfortunately no notifications then. You'd have to bookmark it or something.

It will notify you if he quote the old one first and then delete it.

I think deleting and reposting would cause essentially the same problems as it does now.

With pm you have to do some extra work to delete them, but unfortunately there is not a better solution i could think of, without counting switching to telegram.  Undecided

What if the bot edited the last post in the thread (by inserting new notifications at the top) instead of creating a new post every time? Up to the 64k limit, then start a new post or remove old notifications off the bottom.

That would reduce the number of posts significantly and perhaps would keep theymos happy.

And the notifications can be shorter, just "you've been mentioned here >link and the title of the thread here <".
Basically oneliners Smiley

I certainly prefer the thread. I have 40+ pages in it and it works great inside my watchlist so I don't have to go elsewhere to check and it doesn't clutter my inbox. PMs will be a major PITA.
It's also a great public ledger, I've seen shenanigans that's piggy's bot has helped me figure out and give reference to.

be constructive or S.T.F.U

I like this proposal, in fact any thing but PM will be great, i get an email for every message i receive, i can't imagine receiving an email for every notification, let alone the fact that other PMs will be lost in between, if the PM thing is a must i think i will have to migrate to Telegram.

I was just wondering if this change was "suggested" due to some forum considerations, or if you are at liberty to go ahead with the change, or even open-up the possibility to choosing the notification method (Telegram, Thread, PM).

The current solution was causing some confusion and problems in the forum ( as previously stated ) and using pm was the next natural choice to substitute the thread notification, since it was possible to lift the limitations.

There is going to be a change for what concern the notifications within the forum, we are moving from Thread to PM, since the PM limitations for Maggiordomo have been lifted.

Thanks for your work on the bot. I have been using it for several weeks and it helps me a lot to keep up with all my disscussions.

That it now notifies via pm is also good. But I would like to have an option implemented where you can choose to be informed via pm or thread. I think with many notifications a thread is clearer and easier to manage than pm's. Is this possible?

I'm not sure if I'm going to like this change though, one of the problems with PM is that it doesn't show the latest unread, it opens the last page when I click it. If I receive 20 PMs per day from a bot, I can easily overlook real PMs.
I'll see how it goes first Smiley

It can be is a little more unconvinient if you receive a lot of notification indeed, but this way it's a bit cleaner on the forum side. Let's see how is going after the change.

Hey Piggy,

Just wanted to let you know I received a double notification in 2 occasions over the last few days. Don't know if you want/need more information or if this a known issue.

I think i found out the problem, i saw happening few times to me as well. I'll implement a fix for it tomorrow as well

I would love to subscribe for the notifications, but I am a little confused now that there is going to be a new update.
Since, you are moving away from the thread system to PMs. Do new applicants still have to create a thread in the archival board before applying?

Till the change happen yes, you need to provide a thread, but since i'm doing the change tomorrow i just suggest to wait.

฿itcoin for all, All for ฿itcoin.
Short version:
You can try the new notification system, in order to use it send a pm to Maggiordomo by placing in the subject subscribe and in the body a link to a thread you created (the thread must be on the Archival board anywhere else won't work), this will be used to notify about you being mentioned or quoted across all the forum. You will receive a message confirming you are signed up and some basic information.

Farewell, Leo. You will be missed!
I liked the thread system. You bookmark your thread and check from time to time to see if there are any mentions of your name. Thanks Piggy for letting us know.
