For long term investment, I suggest you invest ETH.
Remember a year ago the highest ETH price around 0.01 and now the price is 0.06-0.1 BTC. I think ETH investment is very profitable for the next few years.

Both are good forms of investment investing in altcoins has risks involved but bitcoin has less risk in terms of price. Price of bitcoin grows easily and really fast while altcoins take time and lose their highest point easily. My recommendation would be have 50% altcoin in your portfolio and 50% bitcoin for stable profit and loss control

It would be better for you to buy bitcoins instead of altcoins.Bitcoin investment is made on a long term basis and it would give high returns.But altcoins are mostly pumped and dumped coins and mostly investments in altcoins are made in a short term basis.

I might be wrong but I believe that most people go through bit going to get to all coins. It seems that the chain would be Fiat to bitcoin and then using Bitcoin on the exchange as a foundation for buying other coins. Most of our light trading is done in that manner , so technically if that's the method then Bitcoin is the first investment. Any exchange that we keep currency on for any length of time it's kept in Bitcoin, and Fiat is the Gateway out

It depends if you are type of person who would love to see profits on long term or on short term. If you are a day trader you will surely love to see profits on constant basis which you would really actively trade bitcoin on any single movement of it but if you dont like to bother to do such things then holding it for long term would really be also a good choice though. We do know that bitcoins price do really rise up in the future.

Short or long I think depend your target + altcoin you choose, if you choose altcoin stable price as Monero, it will become a plan in long term because the price of Monero always increasing or decreasing very slow, not have more volatility as other altcoin on market.

There is nothing to segregate this is good and that is bad. The entire market is based on prediction, so user needs to learn more about it and invest. As the above mate suggested for long term investment bitcoin is the right choice, whereas for profiting in a small time period altcoins and ICO's are the best.

I dont meet yet altcoin but I find now bitcoin its like you work in office that you have manager to rank you for a promotion.This is one of bitcoin gives to the people member here in bitcointalk.Then your bitcoin it depends on you when you want to get it or hold it or invest it.It depends upon your way how to make it profitable for a saving or for the future needs of yours.My sister use it in a business for her to have an stable income monthly as substitute of the money going out to her for their financial expenses.

Answer at all times: Buy Bitcoin for a long term investment and Buy altcoins for a short term investment. If you have read all the replies, you can see that yourself.

Bitcoin is always the best option in cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is growing at a fast rate and you can expect more from it in the long run. Altcoins on the other hand can loose their value anyday. Most of altcoins don't show growth for years.
